This essay explores the early Chinese text Guanzi to address the question of ethical responsibility in the work of Emmanuel Levinas. We begin with the premise that being responsive to the other, feeling the impossibility of renouncing ethical obligation, and experiencing the basic moral asymmetry at the heart of Levinas＇s project all rely on the welcome openness of the subject that Levinas describes as the subject＇s ＂radical passivity.＂ However, his emphasis on infinite responsibility, coupled with the theme of radical passivity, gives the problematic impression that ethics amounts to a never-ending to-do list for the other, and certainly this is not what Levinas means. We turn to the Guanzi, which recommends that the ethically efficacious sage-prince must cultivate a state of passive stillness and inner vacuity. Only because the sage-prince maintains this deferential heart-mind is he freely open and responsive to others. Here the sage-prince looks strikingly like a good Levinasian： He is deferential, sensitive to context, and hyper-aware of the limits of his own knowledge. The Guanzi goes on to describe specific practices the sage-prince can employ to cultivate his ethical prowess, including practices of meditation and gentle physical exercises. Taking this insight into Levinas＇s context, we suggest that such practices of self-regulation are necessary to enable effective responsiveness to the other. From this perspective, responsibility is ＂infinite＂ not because I am perpetually beholden to the other＇s whims, but because I am perpetually accountable for calming and clearing my own mind of the unstable emotions, selfish desires, and intellectual machinations that prevent the welcome openness of radical passivity.

Bioceramics are a popular class of materials used in biomedical applications due to their mechanical stability and *** exist in a variety of fields including hip joints for orthopedics,tooth fillings for dentistry,and scaffolds for tissue engineering;however,the standard processes currently used to manufacture these ce-ramic products can be time-consuming and *** response,current literature alternatively proposes additive manufacturing(3D printing)strategies to fabricate bioceramic materials in a cost-effective and efficient ***,we briefly cover five common processes and materials used in additive manufacturing bioceramics:fused deposition modeling,material jetting,binder jetting,powder bed fusion,and vat ***-thermore,we discuss the potential of these 3D printed ceramic structures when applied to different biomedical technologies such as bone tissue scaffolds and structural implants.

Cell walls are vital to the normal growth and development of plants as they protect the protoplast and provide rigidity to the stem. Here, two poplar and Arabidopsis orthologous endoglucanases, which have been proposed to play a role in secondary cell wall development, were examined. The class B endoglucanases, Pt GH9B5 and At GH9B5, are secreted enzymes that have a predicted glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor, while the class C endoglucanases, Pt GH9C2 and At GH9C2, are also predicted to be secreted but instead contain a carbohydrate-binding *** poplar endoglucanases were expressed in Arabidopsis using both a 35 S promoter and the Arabidopsis secondary cell wall-specific Ces A8 promoter. Additionally, Arabidopsis t-DNA insertion lines and an RNAiconstruct was created to downregulate At GH9C2 in Arabidopsis. All of the plant lines were examined for changes in cell morphology and patterning, growth and development, cell wall crystallinity, micro fibril angle, and proportion of cell wall carbohydrates. Misregulation of Pt GH9B5/At GH9B5 resulted in changes in xylose content, while misregulation of Pt GH9C2/At GH9C2 resulted in changes in crystallinity, which was inversely correlated with changes in plant height and rosette diameter. Together, these results suggest that these endoglucanases affect secondary cell wall development by contributing to the cell wall crystallization process.

In this paper,a neuro-optimized numerical method is presented for approximation of HIV virus progression model in the human *** model is composed of coupled nonlinear system of differential equations(DEs)containing healthy and infected T-Cells and HIV free virus *** coupled system is transformed into feedforward artificial neural network(ANN)with Mexican hat wavelet function in the hidden *** meta-heuristic algorithms based on chaotic particle swarm optimization(CPSO)and its hybrid version with local search technique are exploited to tune the parameters of ANN in an unsupervised manner of error function.A comprehensive testbed is established to observe the virus growth per day with performance metric containing fitness value,computational time complexity and *** proposed solutions are compared with state of art Runge-Kutta method and Legendre Wavelet Collocation Method(LWCM).The core advantages of the proposed scheme are getting the solution on continuous grid,consistent convergence,simplicity in implementation and handling strong nonlinearity effectively.

Objective:To investigate the regulation of matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of melalloproleinases(TIMPs) in human microvascular endothelium(HMEC-1) exposed to erythrocytes infected by different strains of Plasmodium falciparum(***).Methods: HMEC—1 eells were co—incubated for 72 h with erythrocytes infected by late stage trophozoite of D10(chloroquine-sensilive) or W 2(chloroquine-resistant) *** *** supernatants were then collected and the levels of pro- or active gelatinases MMP-9 and MMP-2 were evaluated by gelatin zymograpln and *** release of pro-MMP-9,***-1 and TIMP-1 proteins was analyzed by western blotting and ***:Infected erythrocytes induced de novo proMMP-9 and MMP-9 *** basal levels of proMMP-2 were altered,nor active MMP-2 was ***-3 and MMP-1 secretion was significant!) enhanced,whereas basal TIMP-1 was *** effects were similar for both strains. Conclusions:*** parasites,either chloroquine-sonsitive or -resistant,induce the release of active MMP-9 protein from human microvascular endothelium,by impairing balances between proMMP-9 and its inhibitor,and by enhancing the levels of its *** work provides new evidence on MMP involvement in malaria,pointing at MMP-9 as a possible target in adjuvant therapy.
