Interpreting siliciclastic sedimentation in the upper Paleozoic Mulargia-escalaplano Basin(Sardinia, Italy):influence of tectonics on provenance

Late to post-Variscan molassic basins of Late Pennsylvanian-Permian age are exposed in Sardinia(Italy). Here, the compositional and stratigraphic evolution of the Mulargia-escalaplano sedimentary basin(central Sardinia) has been investigated to highlight how the tectono-magmatic processes have influenced the sedimentation. Ruditic and arenitic samples were collected along well-characterized stratigraphic sections to provide a new insight into the impact of the tectono-magmatic processes on siliciclastic sedimentation. As a result, the conglomerates are mainly clast-supported, petromictic, and thus immature, with no defined maturity trend upwards. Nevertheless, pebble composition changes in times from Variscan basement pebble-rich to volcanic rock-rich, as a consequence of the basin widening and the dismantling and reworking of the coeval volcanic activity. The sandstone composition clearly changes from quartzolithic to feldspatholithic upwards, as a response to the same change of feeding and reworking of the volcanic rocks. Occasionally, interbedded quartzolithic arenites suggest exceptional floods carrying debris from the far borders of the basin. Also, the immature sandstone composition has been interpreted as being controlled by a continuous supply of fresh debris and to a rapid burial rate. In addition, the disappearance of metaradiolarite(lydite AA) Paleozoic grains in the sandstone mineral suite could represent a distinctive marker of a progressive unroofing of the Variscan chain and a clastic supply from deeper tectonic units.

Development and assessment of artificial neural network models for direct normal solar irradiance forecasting using operational numerical weather prediction data

Accurate operational solar irradiance forecasts are crucial for better decision making by solar energy system operators due to the variability of resource and energy *** numerical weather prediction(NWP)models can forecast solar radiation variables,they often have significant errors,particularly in the direct normal irradiance(DNI),which is especially affected by the type and concentration of aerosols and *** paper presents a method based on artificial neural networks(ANN)for generating operational DNI forecasts using weather and aerosol forecasts from the european Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasts(eCMWF)and the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service(CAMS),*** ANN models were designed:one uses as input the predicted weather and aerosol variables for a given instant,while the other uses a period of the improved DNI forecasts before the forecasted *** models were developed using observations for the location of´evora,Portugal,resulting in 10 min DNI forecasts that for day 1 of forecast horizon showed an improvement over the downscaled original forecasts regarding R2,MAe and RMSe of 0.0646,21.1 W/m^(2)and 27.9 W/m^(2),*** model was also evaluated for different timesteps and locations in southern Portugal,providing good agreement with experimental data.

Tissue engineering(Te)continues to be widely explored as a potential solution to meet critical clinical needs for diseased tissue replace.e.t and tissue *** this study,we developed a poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic acid)(pHeMA-co-MAA)based hydrogel loaded with newly synthesized conductive poly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene)(PeDOT)and polypyrrole(PPy)nanoparticles(NPs),and subsequently processed these hydrogels into tissue engineered constructs via three-dimensional(3D)*** presence of the NPs was critical as they altered the rheological properties during ***,all samples exhibited suitable shear thinning properties,allowing for the development of an optimized processing window for 3D *** were 3D printed into pre-determined disk-shaped configurations of 2 and 10 mm in height and diameter,*** observed that the NPs disrupted the gel crosslinking efficiencies,leading to shorter degradation times and compressive mechanical properties ranging between 450 and 550 *** conductivity of the printed hydrogels increased along with the NP concentration to(5.10±0.37)×10^(−7)S/*** vitro studies with cortical astrocyte cell cultures demonstrated that exposure to the pHeMA-co-MAA NP hydrogels yielded high cellular viability and proliferation ***,hydrogel antimicrobial studies with staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria revealed that the developed hydrogels affected bacterial *** together,these materials show promise for various Te strategies.

Brain diseases affect millions of people and have a huge social and economic *** use of neural probes for studies in animals has been the main approach to increasing knowledge about neural network ***,neuroscientists are trying to develop new and more effective therapeutic approaches to treating neurological *** implementation of neural probes with multifunctionalities(electrical,optical,and fluidic interactions)has been increasing in the last few years,leading to the creation of devices with high temporal and spatial *** the applicability of,and elements integrated into,neural probes has also led to the necessity to create flexible interfaces,reducing neural tissue damage during probe implantation and increasing the quality of neural acquisition *** this paper,we review the fabrication,characterization,and validation of several types of flexible neural probes,exploring the main advantages and drawbacks of these ***,future developments and applications are ***,this review aims to present the currently available flexible devices and future appropriate avenues for development as possible guidance for future engineered devices.

Stabilisation of estuarine sediments with an alkali-activated cement for deep soil mixing applications

In this work,an alternative alkali-activated cement(AAC)made of ladle slag precursor mixed with sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate has been developed to enhance the bearing capacity of estuarine soils in coastal conditions via deep soil mixing(DSM).The AAC was optimized to use a low reactivity precursor(ladle slag)and to deal with a contaminated high-water content natural sediment cured under *** material performance was analysed by comparison to a mixture made with Portland cement and cured in the same *** and unconfined compressive strength tests as well as seismic waves measurements after 3-,7-,14-and 28-d curing were performed to obtain a relationship between elastic stiffness and strength with curing time for both ***,the AAC mix demonstrated superior strength results,exhibiting almost double flexural and compressive strengths after 28 d compared to the Portland cement *** AAC mix also showed a higher rate of stiffness increase than the Portland cement mix,which has a higher initial stiffness at young ages but lower stiffness *** analysis confirmed that the proposed AAC could effectively immobilise any contaminants from soil or *** effect of curing under stress was analysed in triaxial compression tests and found to be insignificant,indicating that laboratory data obtained without stress curing can represent the material's behaviour in a DSM column,which will cure under the weight of the column.

Investigation of the transformation of organic matter of carbonate deposits of the Semiluksky-Mendymsky horizon under hydrothermal conditions

The paper presents the results of studies on the transformation of the organic matter of siliceous-clayey carbonate rocks of the Semiluksko-Mendymsky horizon of the Romashkino oil field in a hydrothermal fluid for an hour(with a water-to-rock ratio of 33)at 340℃and 380℃and pressu res of 17 and 20 *** a result of hydrothermal treatment,at 340℃and 17 MPa,based on nitrogen porosimetry and electron microscopy data,transformations of rock-forming minerals in the rock are *** lead to an increase in the volume and average diameter of mesopores in it and the formation of micropores,as well,which improve its filtration *** the same time,the amount of kerogen in the composition of the organic matter decreases and the yield of the petroleum hydrocarbon extract increases,in which,according to the sara analysis,the content of asphaltenes increases and the content of resins,aromatic and saturated hydrocarbons *** the composition of aroatic hydrocarbons,the proportion of a lkyltri methyl benzenes and dibenzothiophenes increases,phenanthrene homologues appear,and in the composition of saturated hydrocarbons,the amount of iso-structure alkanes decreases relative to the content of linear *** the temperature and pressure of the hydrothermal fluid to 380℃and 20 MPa increases the degree of kerogen conversion from 12.4%to 23.6%.At the same time,changes occurring in the component composition of petroleum hydrocarbon extracts remains similar to the experiments carried out at 340℃and 17 MPa;the content of naphthalenes decreases,the content of dibenzothiophenes increases and C_(11)-C_(17),C_(19)-C_(22)alkyltrimethylbenzenes *** to IR spectroscopy,with increasing temperature and pressure of the hydrothermal fluid the intensity of the absorption bands of the aromatic ring,aliphatic fragments,and oxygen-containing groups increases in resins;the structural-group composition of asphaltenes changes little:aromaticity and the content of conde

Perianal disease in inflammatory bowel disease:Broadening treatment and surveillance strategies for anal cancer

Reducing environmental pollution is a critical goal in global environmental economics and economic *** european Union(eU)faces environmental challenges due to its development *** we present a comprehensive approach to assess the impact of carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions,energy consumption(eC),population structure(POP),economy(gDP),and policies on the environment within the eU using the environmental Kuznets curve(eKC).Our research reveals that between 1990 and 2019,the eU-27 experienced an increase of t1.18 million tonnes of oil equivalent(Mtoe)per year in energy consumption(pe CO_(2)emissions decreased by 24.25 million tonnes(Mt)per year(pe highest reduction in CO_(2)emissions occurred in germany(7.52 Mt CO_(2)annually),and the lowest in Latvia(0.087 Mt CO_(2)annually).The empirical eKC analysis shows an inverted-U shaped relationship between gDP and CO_(2)emissions in the ***,a 1%increase in gDP results in a 0.705%increase in carbon emission,while a 1%increase in gDP2 leads to a 0.062%reduction in environmental pollution in the long run(pese findings indicate that economic development within the eU has reached a stage where economic growth positively impacts the ***,this study provides insights into the effectiveness of environmental policies in mitigating degradation and promoting green growth in the eU 27 countries.

Migratory connectivity describes the linkage between breeding and nonbreeding sites,having major ecological implications in birds:1 season influence the success of an individual or a population in the following *** studies on migratory connectivity have used large-scale approaches,often considering regional populations,but fine-scale studies are also necessary to understand colony *** lesser kestrel Falco naumanni,an insectivorous migratory raptor which form colonies during the breeding period,was considered to have strong connectivity based on regional ***,no small-scale studies on migratory connectivity have been ***,we gPS(global Positioning System)-tracked 40 adult lesser kestrels from 15 different Spanish breeding colonies,estimating the overlap index between home ranges and the distance between their *** was found that lesser kestrels from the same breeding colony placed their nonbreeding areas at 347±281 km(mean±standard deviation)away from each other(range=23-990),and their home ranges over-lapped by 38.4±23.6%.No differences between intra-colony and inter-colony metrics were found,which suggests that lesser kestrels from the same breeding cluster do not overwinter together,but they spread out and mixed independently of the colony belonging throughout the nonbreeding range of the ***,this study highlights the importance of performing connectivity studies using fine-scale approaches.
