In this article,a weak Galerkin finite element method for the Laplace equation using the harmonic polynomial space is proposed and *** idea of using the P_(k)-harmonic polynomial space instead of the full polynomial space P_(k)is to use a much smaller number of basis functions to achieve the same accuracy when k≥*** optimal rate of convergence is derived in both H^(1)and L^(2)*** experiments have been conducted to verify the theoretical error *** addition,numerical comparisons of using the P_(2)-harmonic polynomial space and using the standard P_(2)polynomial space are presented.

Cadmium(Cd)pollution in agricultural soils has exerted a serious threat due to continuous application of pesticides,fertilizers,and wastewater *** present study aimed to test the efficiency of KOH-modified and non-modified rice straw-derived biochar(KBC and BC,respectively)for reducing Cd solubility and bioavailability in Cd-contaminated ***-contaminated soil was incubated for 60 d with 15 and 30 g kg-1 BC and *** the end of incubation,Cd mobility was estimated by the European Community Bureau of Reference sequential extraction and toxicity characteristic leaching procedure(TCLP),while bioavailability was determined using 1 molL-1 NH4NO3 *** bioavailability risk index and bioaccessibility,assessed by a simple bioaccessibility extraction test,of Cd were used to examine the potential effects of Cd on living *** results indicated that application of both KBC and BC significantly increased soil p H,cation exchange capacity,nutrients,and organic *** soluble fraction of Cd was significantly decreased by 30.3%and 27.4%,respectively,with the addition of KBC and BC at 30 g kg-1 compared to the control(without biochar addition).Similarly,the bioaccessible Cd was significantly decreased by 32.4%and 25.2%,respectively,with the addition of KBC and BC at 30 g kg-1 compared to the *** addition,both KBC and BC significantly reduced Cd leaching in the TCLP and NH4NO3-extractable Cd in the amended soil compared to the *** reduction in Cd solubility and bioaccessibility by KBC and BC may be due to significant increases in soil pH and surface ***,KBC at an application rate of 30 g kg-1 demonstrated positive results as soil amendment for Cd immobilization,and reduced bioaccessible Cd in contaminated soil.

Objective: To discover the mechanism behind ameliorative effects of Michelia champaca(M. champaca) in gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiovascular disorders. Methods: Antispasmodic potential was evaluated by trying the M. champaca extract(aqueous:ethanolic) on rabbit aorta, trachea and jejunum in vitro. Isotonic and isometric transducers coupled with Power Lab data acquisition system was used to record the responses of isolated tissues. Results: M. champaca extract relaxed the spontaneous and high K^+(80 mmol/L)-induced contractions of isolated jejunum preparation of rabbit showing a Ca^(2+) channel blocking mechanism. Moreover, extract shifted calcium concentration response curves towards right like standard calcium channel blocker verapamil. In rabbit tracheal preparation, M. champaca relaxed both carbachol(1 μmol/L) and high K^+-induced contractions, likewise verapamil. In rabbit aorta preparation, M. champaca relaxed phenylephrine(1 μmol/L) and high K^+-induced contractions similar to verapamil. Conclusion: M. champaca possesses spasmolytic, airways relaxant and vasodilator actions mediated perhaps due to blocking of Ca^(2+) channels, hence validating its therapeutic usage in diarrhea, asthma and hypertension.

Deficiencies of essential vitamins,iron(Fe),and zinc(Zn)affect over one-half of the world’s population.A significant progress has been made to control micronutrient deficiencies through supplementation,but new approaches are needed,especially to reach the rural *** biofortification of pulses with Zn,Fe,and boron(B)offers a pragmatic solution to combat hidden hunger instead of food fortification and ***,it also has positive effects on crop production as ***,we conducted three separate field experiments for two consecutive years to evaluate the impact of soil and foliar application of the aforementioned nutrients on the yield and seed biofortification of *** application of Zn at 0,4.125,8.25,Fe at 0,2.5,5.0 and B at 0,0.55,1.1 kg ha−1 was done in the first,second and third experiment,*** application in these experiments was done at 0.3%Zn,0.2%Fe and 0.1%B respectively one week after flowering *** revealed that soil-applied Zn,Fe and B at 8.25,5.0 and 1.1 kg ha−1,respectively,enhanced the grain yield of mungbean;however,this increase in yield was statistically similar to that recorded with Zn,Fe and B at 4.125,2.5 and 0.55 kg ha−1,*** application of these nutrients at flower initiation significantly enhanced the Zn contents by 28%and 31%,Fe contents by 80%and 78%,while B contents by 98%and 116%over control during 2019 and 2020,*** was concluded from the results that soil application of Zn,Fe,and B enhanced the yield performance of mungbean;while significant improvements in seed Zn,Fe,and B contents were recorded with foliar application of these nutrients.

The forests of Pakistan replicate plentiful climatic, physiographic and edaphic differences in the country and these forests face a serious problem of deforestation. Geographic information system (GIS) techniques and remote sensing (RS) from satellite platforms offer a best way to identify those areas of deforestation, and thus a GIS and RS based study was conducted in tehsil Barawal, district Dir (U) to analyze forest cover change. The main objectives of the study were to: 1) identify different classes of land use and land cover, and its spatial distribution in the study area;2) determine the trend, nature, location and magnitude of forest cover change;and 3) prepare maps of forest-cover change in different time periods in the study area. To assess the objectives remote sensing and GIS techniques were utilized. A supervised image classification technique was applied on Landsat 5 satellite images of 2000 and 2012. Five main classes such as agriculture, forest, barren land, snow and water were identified. The results showed that the area of forest, barren land, agriculture, water and snow in year 2000 was 49.54%, 43.38%, 5.19%, 1.40% and 0.49% and the area in 2012 was 37.17%, 41.36%, 12.69%, 5.05% and 3.72% respectively. Furthermore 2.02% decrease in barren land, 12.37% decrease in forest and 7.5% increase in agriculture land were identified. Due to high deforestation rate and increased agricultural activities, it is recommended that awareness campaign should be launched in the study area to protect and conserve this forest from further deforestation.

Effect of Different Levels of Nitrogen and Phosphorus on the Phenology and Yield of Maize Varieties

An experiment was conducted at Malakabad (Gadera) Dargai Malak and KPK to study the effect of different levels of nitrogen and phosphorus on the yield of maize varieties in randomize complete block design with split plot arrangement. Different fertilization treatments (0:0, 100:0, 100:50, 100:100, 150:0, 150:50, 150:100, 150:150 N:P kg·ha-1) were assigned to main plot while, maize varieties (Azam, Jalal and local) were kept in sub-plots. Data regarding emergence m-2, days to emergence, days to tasseling, days to silking, number of cobs plant-1, plant height, grains cob-1, 1000-grain weight and grain yield were recorded. Emergence m-2, days to emergence, days to tasseling, days to silking, plant ha-1 at harvest were not significantly affected by different levels of nitrogen and phosphorus while number of cob plant-1, thousand grains weight, plant height, grains cob-1 and grain yield were significantly affected. Maximum grain yield (5356 kg·ha-1) was recorded in Jalal variety, when it was fertilized with 150:100 N:P kg·ha-1. Of the factors included in this study, maize cultivars and NP fertilization treatments were dominant in determining grain yield as well as its related components, suggesting that cultivar selection and optimum fertilization are effective strategies to improve grain yield. However, multiplication and multi-year studies are required to test these results using different cultivars under varying edaphic and climatic conditions.

Nitrogen(N),the building block of plant proteins and enzymes,is an essential macronutrient for plant functions.A field experiment was conducted to investigate the impact of different N application rates(28,57,85,114,142,171,and 200 kg ha^(−1))on the performance of spring wheat(***-2016)during the 2017–2018 and 2018–2019 growing seasons.A control without N application was kept for *** years mean data showed optimum seed yield(5,461.3 kg ha^(−1))for N-application at 142 kg ha^(−1) whereas application of lower and higher rates of N did not result in significant and economically higher seed yield.A higher seed yield was obtained in the 2017–2018(5,595 kg ha^(−1))than in the 2018–2019(5,328 kg ha^(−1))growing seasons under an N application of 142 kg ha^(−1).It was attributed to the greater number of growing degree days in the first(1,942.35°C days)than in the second year(1,813.75°C).Higher rates of N(171 and 200 kg ha^(−1))than 142 kg ha^(−1) produced more number of tillers(i.e.,948,300 and 666,650 ha^(−1),respectively).However,this increase did not contribute in achieving higher *** of 142,171,and 200 kg ha^(−1) resulted in 14.15%,15.0%and 15.35%grain protein concentrations in comparison to 13.15%with the application of 114 kg ha^(−1).It is concluded that the application of N at 142 kg ha^(−1) could be beneficial for attaining higher grain yields and protein concentrations of wheat cultivar Ujala-2016.
