A global operational land imager(GOLI)Landsat-8 d.ytime active fire detection algorithm is *** utilizes established contextual active fire detection approaches but takes advantage of the significant increase in fire reflectance in Landsat-8 band 7(2.20μm)relative to band 4(0.66μm).The detection thresholds are fixed and based on a statistical examination of 39 million non-burning Landsat-8 ***-temporal tests based on band 7 reflectance and relative changes in normalized difference vegetation index in the previous six months are used to reduce commissions *** probabilities of active fire detection for the GOLI and two recent Landsat-8 active fire detection algorithms are simulated to provide insights into their performance with respect to the fire size and *** algorithms are applied to 11 Landsat-8 images that encompass a range of burning conditions and *** and omission errors are assessed by visual interpretation of detected active fire locations and by examination of the Landsat-8 images and higher spatial resolution Google Earth *** GOLI algorithm has lower omission and comparable commission errors than the recent Landsat-8 active fire detection *** GOLI algorithm has demonstrable potential for global application and is suitable for implementation with other Landsat-like reflective wavelength sensors.

Reservoir heterogeneities play a crucial role in governing reservoir performance and ***,detailed and inter-well heterogeneity analyses are commonly performed by mapping seismic facies change in the seismic data,which is a time-intensive *** researchers have utilized a robust Grey-level co-occurrence matrix(GLCM)-based texture attributes to map reservoir ***,these attributes take seismic data as input and might not be sensitive to lateral lithology *** incorporate the lithology information,we have developed an innovative impedance-based texture approach using GLCM workflow by integrating 3d acoustic impedance volume(a rock propertybased attribute)obtained from a deep convolution network-based impedance *** proposed workflow is anticipated to be more sensitive toward mapping lateral changes than the conventional amplitude-based texture approach,wherein seismic data is used as *** evaluate the improvement,we applied the proposed workflow to the full-stack 3d seismic data from the Poseidon field,NW-shelf,*** study demonstrates that a better demarcation of reservoir gas sands with improved lateral continuity is achievable with the presented approach compared to the conventional *** addition,we assess the implication of multi-stage faulting on facies distribution for effective reservoir *** study also suggests a well-bounded potential reservoir facies distribution along the parallel fault ***,the proposed approach provides an efficient strategy by integrating the impedance information with texture attributes to improve the inference on reservoir heterogeneity,which can serve as a promising tool for identifying potential reservoir zones for both production benefits and fluid storage.

The Brazilian Tropical Moist Forest Biome(BTMFB)spans almost 4 million km^(2) and is subject to extensive annual fires that have been categorized into deforestation,maintenance,and forest fire *** on fire types is important as they have different atmospheric emissions and ecological impacts.A supervised classification methodology is presented to classify the fire type of MOderate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MOdIS)active fire detections using training data defined by consideration of Brazilian government forest monitoring program annual land cover maps,and using predictor variables concerned with fuel flammability,fuel load,fire behavior,fire seasonality,fire annual frequency,proximity to surface transportation,and local *** fire seasonality,local temperature,and fuel flammability were the most influential on the *** fire type results for all 1.6 million MOdIS Terra and Aqua BTMFB active fire detections over eight years(2003–2010)are presented with an overall fire type classification accuracy of 90.9%(kappa 0.824).The fire type user’s and producer’s classification accuracies were respectively 92.4%and 94.4%(maintenance fires),88.4%and 87.5%(forest fires),and,88.7%and 75.0%(deforestation fires).The spatial and temporal distribution of the classified fire types are presented and are similar to patterns reported in the available recent literature.

dear Editor, A microgravity environment in space, the elasticity of the tether,and complex flexible appendages make the tethered-towing system a nonlinear and underactuated system, which is sensitive and difficult to stabilize. This letter develops a controller based on wave propagation for tethered towing of defunct satellites, and carries out a robustness analysis of the controller via numerical simulation.

Gold nanocages （AuNcgs） are well-studied, hollow, metallic nanostructures that have fascinated researchers in the fields of nanotechnology, materials science, photoelectronics, biotechnology, and medical science for the last decade. However, the time-consuming synthesis of AuNcgs has limited their widespread use in materials science and nano-biotechnology. A novel, ultra-fast, simple, and highly convenient method for the production of AuNcgs using microwave heating is demonstrated herein. This quick method of AuNcg synthesis requires mild laboratory conditions for large-scale production of AuNcgs. The microwave heating technique offers the advantage of precise mechanical control over the temperature and heating power, even for the shortest reaction period （i.e., seconds）. Microwave-synthesized AuNcgs were compared with conventionally synthesized AuNcgs. Structural maneuver studies employing the conventionally produced AuNcgs revealed the formation of screw dislocations and a shift in the lattice plane. detailed characterization of the microwave-generated AuNcgs was performed using high resolution transmission electron microscopy （HRTEM）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, X-ray powder diffraction （XRd）, and spectroscopic techniques.

A multigrid-assisted solver tbr the three-dimensional time-dependent incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on graded Cartesian meshes is developed. The spatial accuracy is third-order for the convective terms and fourth-order for the viscous terms, and a fractional-step strategy ensures second-order time accuracy. To achieve good time-wise efficiency a multigrid technique is used to solve the highly time-consuming pressure-Poisson equation that requires to be solved at every time step. The speed-up achieved by multigrid is shown in tabular form. The performance and accuracy of the code are first ascertained by computing the flow in a single-sided lid-driven cubic cavity with good grid-economy and comparing the results available in the literature. The code, thus validated, is then applied to a new test problem we propose and various transient and asymptotically obtained steady-state results are presented. Given the care taken to establish the credibility of the code and the good spatio-temporal accuracy of the discretization, these results are accurate and may be used for ascertaining the performance of any computational algorithm applied to this test problem.

Effect of samarium doping on structural, optical and magnetic properties of vertically aligned ZnO nanorod arrays

Samarium doped vertically aligned one dimensional ZnO nanorod（NR） arrays were grown by vapor phase transport（VPT） method through vapor solid（VS） growth process. Influence of different concentrations（0% to 8%） of Sm（all Sm contents in the paper are in mass fraction） on the ZnO NR arrays were investigated by X-ray diffraction（XRd）, field emission scanning electron microscopy（FESEM）, photoluminescence（PL）, Raman spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometry（VSM） techniques, respectively. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the ZnO NR arrays were perfectly oriented along（002） crystallographic orientation with wurtzite crystal structure. Photoluminescence results showed an increase in oxygen vacancies due to increase in Sm doping. M-H curves revealed enhanced ferromagnetic behavior, and the magnetic moment values were 0.45, 0.363, 1.694, 3.613 and 2.197 emu/cm^3 for（0–8%） Sm doped ZnO NR arrays respectively. The curve revealed that paramagnetic behavior was observed for undoped ZnO NR arrays and on increasing the Sm dopant to 4%, paramagnetic switched to ferromagnetic behavior.
