Changes of the gastric endocrine cells in the C57BL/6 mouse after implantation of murine lung carcinoma: An immunohistochemical quantitative study

AIM: The regional distributions and relative frequencies of some gastric endocrine cells of C57BL/6 mice were studied by immunohistochemical method using seven types of specific antisera against chromogranin A (CGA), serotonin, somatostatin, gastrin, cholecystokinin (CCK)-8, glucagon and human pancreatic polypeptide (HPP) after subcutaneous implantation of murine lung carcinoma (3LL) cells. METHODS: The experimental animals were divided into two groups, one is non-implanted sham and the other is 3LL-implanted group. Samples were collected from the two regions of stomach (fundus and pylorus) at 28 d after implantation of 3LL cells (1x105 cell/mouse). RESULTS: In this study, all the seven types of immunoreactive (IR) cells were identified except for HPP. Most of these IR cells in the gastric portion were generally spherical or spindle in shape (open-type cell) while cells showing round in shape (closed-type cell) were found occasionally. The regional distributions of gastric endocrine cells in the 3LL-implanted group were similar to those of non-implanted sham. However, significant decreases of some types of IR cells were detected in 3LL-implanted group compared to those of non-implanted sham. In addition, the IR cells showing degranulation were numerously detected in 3LL-implanted group. CGA-, serotonin- and somatostatin-IR cells in the fundus and pylorus regions, and gastrin-IR cells in the pylorus regions of 3LL-implanted groups significantly decreased compared to those of non-implanted sham. However, no changes on frequencies of CCK-8- and glucagon-IR cells were demonstrated between 3LL-implanted and non-implanted groups. CONCLUSION: Endocrine cells are the anatomical units responsible for the production of gut hormones, and the change in their density would reflect a change in the capacity of producing these hormones. BACKGROUND Liposarcoma is one of the most common adult mesenchymal tumors but is uncommon in the gastrointestinal tract and extremely rare in the ***,the histological subtypes of liposarcoma usually reported in the stomach are well-differentiated or myxoid,and few reports have been issued on small-sized gastric liposarcomas resected endoscopically and followed ***,we report a case of primary gastric dedifferentiated liposarcoma(DL)that was resected *** SUMMARY A 67-year-old female Korean patient was referred to our institution for further evaluation of a gastric submucosal tumor(SMT)located in the lesser curvature of the gastric body by *** ultrasound revealed a well-circumscribed,slightly heterogeneous,isoechoic,17 mm×10 mm sized mass originating from the third sonographic *** tomography showed no evidence of significant lymph node enlargement or distant *** resection was undertaken using the snare resection technique after mucosal precutting to provide a definitive histopathologic diagnosis,which proved to be consistent with DL,based on its morphology and the immunoexpressions of MDM2 and *** patient was planned for surgery because the deep resection margin was positive for *** declining any invasive procedure or adjuvant treatment,the patient was placed under close follow-up,and at one year after endoscopic resection,remained disease *** This is the first reported case of a small primary gastric DL resected endoscopically and followed *** report demonstrates that when diagnosis of a SMT is uncertain,the use of invasive techniques,including endoscopic resection,should be considered.

BACKGROUND Gastric antral vascular ectasia(GAVE)has diverse associations and presumed causes,which include liver cirrhosis,chronic kidney disease,and autoimmune *** heterogeneity of underlying disorders suggests that the pathogenesis of GAVE may be *** To compare the clinical features and long-term outcomes of GAVE according to endoscopic patterns and *** The medical records and endoscopic images of 23 consecutive patients diagnosed with GAVE by endoscopy at Yeungnam University Hospital from January 2006 to December 2020 were retrospectively *** were allocated to cirrhosis(16 patients)and non-cirrhosis groups(7 patients).GAVE subtypes,as determined by endoscopy,were categorized as punctate(a diffuse,honeycomb-like appearance,17 patients)or striped(a linear,watermelon-like appearance,6 patients).RESULTS All GAVE patients with cirrhosis(16/16,100%)had a punctate pattern by endoscopy,whereas the majority of patients(6/7,85.7%)without cirrhosis had a striped pattern(Pleeding(10/23,43%)was significantly more common in the non-cirrhosis group than in the cirrhosis group(6/7,85.7%vs 4/16,25.0%;P=0.019),and more common in the striped group than in the punctate group(5/6,83.3%vs 5/17,29.4%;P=0.052).However,mean numbers of admissions due to GAVE bleeding and argon plasma coagulation(APC)sessions to address overt bleeding were similar in the cirrhosis and non-cirrhosis groups and in the punctate and striped *** patients with GAVE bleeding were successfully treated by APC,and no patient died from GAVE-related blood loss during a median follow-up of 24 *** Punctate-type GAVE is strongly associated with liver cirrhosis,and GAVE patients without cirrhosis tend to be more prone to overt ***,the presence of cirrhosis and endoscopic patterns did not influence long-term clinical courses or outcomes in cases of overt bleeding.

A flexible electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding film was innovatively fabricated using both low melting temperature solder arrays and amorphous soft magnet particulates consolidated on a polyethylene terephthalate(PET)***,the IneSneBi solder arrays presented a low melting point of 99.4C,which enabled attachment to the heat-sensitive plastic substrate without any thermal damage,and a low electrical resistivity of 14.1 mU cm,making them very effective at interrupting EM ***,the solder arrays with a high thermal conductivity of 61.2 W/(m$K)at 298.15 K were also useful as a thermal conductor for a heat ***,the solder arrays provide efficient electrical and thermal channels for electron transport induced by abruptly or consistently created EM waves due to suddenly turning on and the long term operation of electronics,***,the Fe-based magnetic particulates were added and resulted in effective saturation magnetization of 161.1 emu/g,remanence of 2.9 emu/g,and coercivity of 12.5 G,thus were able to disturb the EM pathway because of their soft magnetic ***,the hybrid EMI shielding film with exceptionally high electrical and thermal conductivity and superior soft magnetic properties provided remarkable shielding effectiveness of 102.5 dB at 10.2 GHz.

AIM:To evaluate the applicability of AIMS65 scores in predicting outcomes of peptic ulcer ***:This was a retrospective study in a single center between January 2006 and December *** enrolled 522 patients with upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage who visited the emergency *** patients were regarded as those who had rebleeding within 30 d from the first endoscopy as well as those who died within 30 d of visiting the Emergency room.A total of 149 patients with peptic ulcer bleeding were analysed,and the AIMS65 score was used to retrospectively predict the high-risk ***:A total of 149 patients with peptic ulcer bleeding were *** poor outcome group comprised 28 patients[male:23(82.1%)vs female:5(10.7%)]while the good outcome group included 121patients[male:93(76.9%)vs female:28(23.1%)].The mean age in each group was not significantly *** mean serum albumin levels in the poor outcome group were slightly lower than those in the good outcome group(P=0.072).For the prediction of poor outcome,the AIMS65 score had a sensitivity of35.5%(95%CI:27.0-44.8)and a specificity of 82.1%(95%CI:63.1-93.9)at a score of *** AIMS65 score was insufficient for predicting outcomes in peptic ulcer bleeding(area under curve=0.571;95%CI:0.49-0.65).CONCLUSION:The AIMS65 score may therefore not be suitable for predicting clinical outcomes in peptic ulcer *** albumin levels may be a risk factor associated with high mortality in peptic ulcer bleeding.

AIM: To investigate the mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress induction by an occult infection related hepatitis B virus S surface antigen(HBsAg)***: We used an HBsAg variant with lower secretion capacity, which was a KD variant from a Korean subject who was occultly infected with the genotype C. We compared the expression profiles of ER stress-related proteins between HuH-7 cells transfected with HBsAg plasmids of a wild-type and a KD variant using Western ***: Confocal microscopy indicated that the KD variant had higher levels of co-localization with ER than the wild-type HBsAg. The KD variant upregulated ER stress-related proteins and induced reactive oxygen species(ROS) compared to the wildtype via an increase in calcium. The KD variant also down-regulated anti-oxidant proteins(HO-1, catalase and SOD) compared to the wild-type, which indicates positive amplification loops of the ER-ROS axis. The KD variant also induced apoptotic cell death via the upregulation of caspase proteins(caspase 6, 9 and 12).Furthermore, the KD variant induced a higher level of nitric oxide than wild-type HBsAg via the up-regulation of the iNOS ***: Our data indicate that occult infection related HBsAg variants can lead to ER-derived oxidative stress and liver cell death in HuH-7 cells.

We report colonoscopic features of an intussuscepted Meckel's diverticulum, presenting with hematochezia. A 35-year-old woman presented to the emergency room with acute onset, transient, sharp, severe epi-gastric pain that began 6 h earlier. Colonoscopy re-vealed a reddish, soft, fi st-sized polypoid lesion in the terminal ileum. The lesion was misinterpreted as a hematoma by an inexperienced endoscopist. The pa-tient began to complain of intermittent, severe peri-umbilical pain following the colonoscopic examination. Subsequent computed tomography showed an enteric intussusception. An exploratory laparotomy revealed an intussuscepted Meckel's diverticulum, with trans-mural infarction. Colonoscopy was of little use in as-sessing the intussusception. However, colonoscopic examination may be performed initially, especially in an intussuscepted Meckel's diverticulum present-ing with hematochezia. Endoscopists should note the endoscopic features of an intussuscepted Meckel's diverticulum.

Temperature Distribution and Thermal Stresses in Various Conditions of Moving Heating Source during Line Heating Process

Line heating method is widely used to manufacture curved surfaces in ship building. The main factors governing the quality of the manufactured products are the moving velocity of the heating source, heating strength, and heating ways. In this study, the temperature distributions of the heated plate were investigated with the condition that the line heating process was automatic. The temperature variations were also investigated with the changes of those three variables. The numerical results showed that the peak temperature decreased as the moving velocity of the heating source increased. It also revealed that the peak temperatures changed linearly with the changes of the heating source.
