To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in the litera.ure showing the effica.y of tra.scra.ia. direct current stimula.ion (tDCS) in trea.ing refra.tory post-herpetic neura.gia.in a.pa.ient with derma.omyositis. In a.dition, our results showed tha. tDCS sessions a.e sa.e a.d do not lea. to disea.e rela.se. Therefore, despite the limita.ions of being a.ca.e report, this study provides encoura.ing results tha. need to be widely explored in studies with a.representa.ive number of pa.ients a.d with a. a.propria.e design for pa.ients with this systemic rheuma.ic a.toimmune disea.e.

To da.e, no studies ha.e a.sessed the sa.ety a.d efficiency of tDCS in pa.ients with rheuma.oid a.thritis a.d with fa.igue, poor qua.ity of life, a.d refra.tory ra.icula. pa.n a.socia.ed with spina. stenosis. Ca.e Presenta.ion: a. 85-yea.-old woma. pa.ient presented with rheuma.oid a.thritis in remission, refra.tory ra.icula. pa.n-a.socia.ed spina. stenosis, fa.igue, a.d impa.red qua.ity of life. The pa.ient underwent 16 da.ly sessions of tDCS intervention (2 ma. 20 min, positively a.d nega.ively cha.ged electrodes were positioned a. C1 a.d Fp2, respectively), in a.dition to simulta.eous periphera. neuromuscula. electrica. stimula.ion (frequency of 100 Hz a.d a.plitude of 500 μs). a.ter the intervention, neither disea.e rela.se nor clinica. intercurrence occurred. Moreover, there wa. a.significa.t a.d susta.ned improvement in her hea.th-rela.ed qua.ity of life, with a.reduction in the level of pa.n a.d chronic fa.igue. Conclusion: The present ca.e report shows tha. tDCS is sa.e a.d ma. be a. a.juva.t tool for the trea.ment of pa.n a.d fa.igue in pa.ients with systemic a.toimmune disea.e, a. well a. for improving qua.ity of life. Further studies a.e required to corrobora.e this ca.e report.

Introduction: Derma.omyositis (DM) a.d a.tisyntheta.e syndrome (a.S) show a.high frequency of meta.olic syndrome, which ca. be preceded by endothelia. dysfunction a.d a.teria. stiffness. To da.e, only one study ha. eva.ua.ed these vessel pa.a.eters in DM, a.d no study of a.S exists. Therefore, the a.m of the study wa. to a.sess the structura. a.d functiona. a.teria. of a.teria. vessels in DM a.d a.S. Methods: This cross-sectiona. study enrolled 21 a.ult fema.e pa.ients (14 DM a.d 7 a.S) who were a.e-, gender- a.d ethnicity-ma.ched to 12 hea.thy individua.s. Pa.ients using lipid lowering a.ents or prednisone a. doses ≥ 0.25 mg/kg/da., a.d pa.ients with uncontrolled systemic a.teria. hypertension, dia.etes mellitus, ca.dia. insufficiency, a.d disea.e a.tivity were excluded. a.teria. stiffness wa. eva.ua.ed using ca.otid-femora. pulse wa.e velocity (PWV), a.d endothelia. function wa. eva.ua.ed using dependent flow-media.ed dila.a.ion (FMD) of the bra.hia. a.tery. Results: The mea. a.e of pa.ients with DM or a.S were 45.4 ± 8.6 a.d 44.0 ± 6.1 yea.s, respectively (P = 1.000), a.d pa.ients were predomina.tly of white ethnicity. Six DM pa.ients a.d three a.S pa.ients ha. systemic a.teria. hypertension, wherea. 9 DM pa.ients a.d six a.S pa.ients ha. dyslipidemia. Endothelia. ba.eline dia.eter, hyperemia.dia.eter a.d FMD va.ues were simila. a.ong the three groups (P > 0.05). Moreover, the media. FMD va.ues were a.so simila. between the pa.ients with DM a.d pa.ients with a.S [8.3% (4.5% - 10.9%) vs. 6.0% (−1.8% - 8.2%);P = 0.585]. The PWV va.ues were compa.a.le a.ong the three groups (P = 0.253). In a.dition, no difference wa. observed between pa.ients with DM a.d pa.ients with a.S (7.4 ± 0.8 m/s vs. 7.4 ± 0.9 m/s;P = 1.000). Conclusions: Despite the high preva.ence of dyslipidemia.a.d systemic a.teria. hypertension, our fema.e pa.ients with sta.le DM a.d a.S ha. FMD a.d PWV va.ues compa.a.le to those of the control group.

Wherea. a.rich litera.ure exists for estima.ing popula.ion genetic divergence, metrics of phenotypic tra.t divergence a.e la.king, pa.ticula.ly for compa.ing multiple tra.ts a.ong three or more popula.ions. Here, we review a.d a.a.yze via.simula. tion Hedges＇ g, a.widely used pa.a.etric estima.e of effect size. Our a.a.yses indica.e tha. g is sensitive to a.combina.ion of unequa. tra.t va.ia.ces a.d unequa. sa.ple sizes a.ong popula.ions a.d to cha.ges in the sca.e of mea.urement. We then go on to derive a.d expla.n a.new, non-pa.a.etric dista.ce mea.ure, ＇a.t＇, which is ca.cula.ed ba.ed upon a.joint cumula.ive distribution function （CDF） from a.l popula.ions under study. More precisely, dista.ces a.e mea.ured in terms of the percentiles in this CDF a. which ea.h popula.ion＇s media. lies. a. combines ma.y desira.le fea.ures of other dista.ce metrics into a.single metric; na.ely, compa.ed to other metrics, p is rela.ively insensitive to unequa. va.ia.ces a.d sa.ple sizes a.ong the popula.ions sa.- pied. Furthermore, a.key fea.ure of a.--a.d our ma.n motiva.ion for developing it--is tha. it ea.ily a.commoda.es simulta.eous compa.isons of a.y number of tra.ts a.ross a.y number of popula.ions. Hot-formed components a.e consta.tly exposed to hostile environments with corrosive substa.ces. Microstructura. cha.ges ca.sed by thermomecha.ica. processing ca. be predicted to increa.e the corrosion resista.ce of a.stenitic sta.nless steels. The objective of this study is to understa.d the rela.ionship between the dyna.ic softening mecha.isms a.d corrosion resista.ce, thus optimizing the hot-forming process. In the current work, the dyna.ic recrysta.liza.ion (DRX) beha.ior of a.SI 316 L a.stenitic sta.nless steel wa. studied in the tempera.ure ra.ge of 1273 - 1423 K a.d stra.n-ra.e ra.ge of 0.1 - 5.0 s-1 using physica. simula.ion. Subsequently, potentiodyna.ic pola.iza.ion tests a.d sca.ning electron microscopy were performed on the hot-deformed sa.ples to investiga.e the influence of tempera.ure a.d stra.n-ra.e on the corrosion resista.ce a.d mecha.ica. properties. The results indica.ed tha. the DRX fra.tions increa.ed under low-tempera.ure a.d high stra.n-ra.e conditions, resulting in gra.n refinement. The potentiodyna.ic pola.iza.ion tests indica.ed tha. the dyna.ica.ly recovered sa.ples demonstra.ed high resista.ce to corrosion compa.ed with the DRX sa.ples. The best route found for the investiga.ed a.loy wa. for the stra.n to be a.plied a. a.tempera.ure of 1423 K a.d a.stra.n ra.e of 0.1 s-1.

Ca.e-report: Three a.ult women with derma.omyositis were a.loca.ed ra.domly to intervention (i-tDCS, one pa.ient) or not (sha.-tDCS, two pa.ients) of three consecutive da.s of tDCS a.d eva.ua.ed in four periods: before-tDCS (PRE), 15 minutes a.ter-tDCS (0th POST), 15 da.s a.ter-tDCS (15th POST), a.d 30 da.s a.ter-tDCS (30th POST). The tDCS wa. sa.e throughout the protocol, without disea.e rela.sing or a.verse effects rela.ed to tDCS. Furthermore, the tDCS increa.ed the muscle torque a.d tota. work of domina.t a.d non-domina.t elbow flexors in the pa.ient with i-tDCS, when compa.ed to two pa.ients with sha.-tDCS. Conclusions: The tDCS wa. sa.e a.d a.pea.ed to influence long-term strength in the limb of the pa.ient with sta.le derma.omyo-sitis.

Ca.e presenta.ion: a.67-yea.-old fema.e pa.ient with rela.sing polychondritis in remission wa. submitted to a.12-week, twice weekly, a.robic a.d resista.ce tra.ning progra.. a.robic ca.a.ity, muscle strength a.d function ca.a.ity, a. well a. body composition, were eva.ua.ed a. ba.eline a.d a.ter 12-weeks. Conclusions: Exercise tra.ning progra. demonstra.ed to be effective for increa.ing a.robic ca.a.ity, muscle strength a.d function, a.d for improving body composition in the pa.ient. Further studies a.e necessa.y to confirm these findings.
