Construction and operation of buildings are responsible for about 20%of the global energy *** embodied energy of conventional buildings is high due to the utilization of energy-intensive construction mate-rials and traditional construction *** operational energy is attributed to the usage of power-consuming conventional air-conditioning ***,moving to an energy-efficient cooling technology and eco-friendly building material can lead to significant energy savings and CO 2 emission *** the present study,an energy-efficient thermally activated building system(TABS)is integrated with glass fiber rein-forced gypsum(GFRG),an eco-friendly building *** proposed hybrid system is termed the thermally activated glass fiber reinforced gypsum(TAGFRG)*** system is not only energy-efficient and eco-friendly but also provides better thermal *** experimental room with a TAGFRG roof is constructed on the premises of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras(IITM),Chennai,located in a tropical wet and dry climate *** influence of indoor sensible heat load and the impact of natural ventilation on the thermal comfort of the TAGFRG system are *** increase in internal heat load from 400 to 700 w deteriorates the thermal comfort of the indoor *** is evident from the increases in operative temperatures from 29.8 to 31.5℃ and the predicted percentage of dissatisfaction from 44.5%to 80.9%.Natural ventilation increases the diurnal fluctuation of indoor air temperature by 1.6 and 1.9℃ for with and without cooling cases,*** reduces the maximum indoor CO 2 concentration from 912 to 393 ppm.

Prokaryotic type II adaptive immune systems have been developed into the versatile CRISPR technology, which has been widely applied in site- specific genome editing and has revolutionized biomedical research due to its superior efficiency and flexibility. Recent studies have greatly diversified CRISPR technologies by coupling it with various DNA repair mechanisms and targeting strategies. These new advances have significantly expanded the generation of genetically modified animal models, either by including species in which targeted genetic modification could not be achieved previously, or through introducing complex genetic modifications that take multiple steps and cost years to achieve using traditional methods. Herein, we review the recent developments and applications of CRISPR-based technology in generating various animal models, and discuss the everlasting impact of this new progress on biomedical research.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis(LCH) is a rare syndrome characterized by unifocal,multifocal unisystem,or disseminated/multi-system disease that commonly involves the bone,skin,lymph nodes,pituitary,or sometimes lung(almost exclusively in smokers) causing a variety of symptoms from rashes and bone lesions to diabetes insipidus or pulmonary *** present a previously unreported case of gastrointestinal LCH as well as a novel characteristic lesion affecting the colon of a young woman who presented with signs and symptoms mimicking acute on chronic *** analysis of appendectomy specimen and nodular specimens on colonoscopy demonstrated S-100,CD1a,and langerin *** patient underwent systemic chemotherapy with cytarabine and demonstrated excellent response to therapy.

Tapping declassified US Senate and Central Intelligence Agency reports, United Nations studies, and other primary sources, this study investigates the etiology, policies, and consequences of US detention policy as a part of the war on Terror. The record of the last two presidential administrations in dealing with detainees at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba （GITMO） and elsewhere is examined and the legal rationale for the tactics used on those in captivity is scrutinized. The study reveals that although certain features of detention policy changed from the George w. Bush administration to the Barack Obama presidency, others remained the same. The benefits of information acquired from detainees is weighed and detention policy itself is evaluated according to fundamental American values.

For a long time, forefoot surgery had many disadvantages including a painful postoperative period and recurrence of deformities. New techniques – notably Scarf, the first metatarsal osteotomy and the weil osteotomy of the lesser metatarsal – provide a significant improvement in the treatment of static forefoot disorders. The great toe osteotomy has also been greatly improved. Since 1991, the author has introduced these techniques in many countries, while developing and studying the corresponding implants and the postoperative period. He has also developed surgical management techniques that bridge these different osteotomies. More than 1000 surgeons around the world are using these techniques, which are now widely taught. In this second edition of the book the general presentation is clearer and more pleasant and many pictures have been replaced. Several topics are emphasized, notably the great toe proximal phalanx osteotomy, the joint preservative surgery in severe forefoot disorders, including revision after failed bunionectomy and rheumatoid forefoot following the "ms” point for an accurate and effective metatarsal shortening. Lastly, new procedures are exposed, particularly in Claw toe and hammer with the PIP plantar release and the surgery of the middle phalanx and also the weil osteotomy of the first metatarsal in hallux limitus.

Electrolytes can be taken orally or intravenously as supplements or thera- peutics. However, their therapeutic window may exceed the serum toxicity threshold, making systemic delivery a poor option. Local injection is also not adequate due to rapid diffusion of electrolytes. Here, we solved this issue with a nanocapsule technolog~ comprising an electrolyte nanocrystal as the drug filling and a silica sheath to regulate drug release rates. In particular, we prepared LiF@SiO2 nanocapsules and investigated their potential as a delivery system for lithium, which was shown in recent studies to be an effective therapeutic agent for osteoarthritis （OA）. we demonstrated that LiF@SiO2 can extend lithium release time from minutes to more than 60 h. After intra- articular （i.a.） injection into a rat OA model, the nanocapsules reduced the Osteoarthritis Research Society International （OARSI） score by 71% in 8 weeks while inducing no systemic toxicity. Our study opens new doors for improved delivery of electrolyte therapeutics, which have rarely been studied in the past.
