The phenolics composition and inhibitory activity of Tetrapleura tetraptera fruit extract on xanthine oxidase(XO)and Fe2+-induced lipid peroxidation in the kidney,liver and lungs tissues of rats were evaluated in ***(flavonoids and phenolic acids)were quantified using reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatrography coupled with diode array detection(HPLC-DAD).The XO and Fe2+-induced lipid peroxidation inhibitory abilities of the extract were evaluated using spectrophotometric *** extract contained some flavonoids and phenolic acids,including catechin,epicatechin,rutin,quercetin,luteolin,apigenin;gallic,chlorogenic,caffeic and ellagic acids that are beneficial to *** extract inhibited XO in the kidney,liver and lungs tissues in a dose-dependent *** half-maximal inhibitory concentrations(IC50)of the extract on XO from the tissues varied significantly(Pkidney>*** extract also inhibited Fe2+-induced lipid peroxidation in a dose-dependent pattern,having IC50 in the order of liver>lungs>*** fruit extract could be a promising nutraceutical for preventing and managing hyperuricaemia and the associated disease conditions,due to its ability to inhibit XO;this bioactivity is attributable to combined effect of its flavonoids and phenolic acids.

Variance Inflation Factor: As a Condition for the Inclusion of Suppressor Variable(s) in Regression Analysis

Suppression effect in multiple regression analysis may be more common in research than what is currently recognized. We have reviewed several literatures of interest which treats the concept and types of suppressor variables. Also, we have highlighted systematic ways to identify suppression effect in multiple regressions using statistics such as: R2, sum of squares, regression weight and comparing zero-order correlations with Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) respectively. We also establish that suppression effect is a function of multicollinearity;however, a suppressor variable should only be allowed in a regression analysis if its VIF is less than five (5).

Twelve Australian grown faba bean genotypes with seed colour ranging from white, different shades of buff/beige, green, red and purple, were extracted using 80% methanol (v/v) or 70% acetone (v/v). The findings showed that commonly consumed buff-coloured genotypes have comparable phenolic contents and antioxidant activities to those with exotic seed coat colour (red, green and purple). In general, the extraction yield for methanol and acetone extracts of faba bean genotypes were similar. However, the acetone extracts of faba bean varieties with coloured seed coats exhibited higher antioxidant activities than their methanol extracts counterparts. Phenolic compounds and antioxidant activities of the genotypes were compared in an array of chemical-based assays and profiled using an on-line high-performance liquid chromatography-post column derivatization (HPLC-PCD) system. The total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) of acetone extracts were approximately twice those of methanol extracts. The acetone extracts contained six times higher levels of di(phenyl)-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl) imi- noazanium radical scavenging activity (DPPH), six times higher Total Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity (TEAC) and two times higher Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) than those of methanol extracts. In general, the methanol extracts of white-coloured faba bean genotype exhibited comparable phenolic contents and antioxidant activities to varieties with coloured seed coats. However, the TPC, TFC, DPPH, TEAC and FRAP of acetone extracts from white-coloured genotype were 2 - 4, 1 - 2, 5 - 9, 2 - 3 and 1 - 2 times lower than those of faba bean varieties with coloured seed coats. HPLC-PCD analyses showed substantial antioxidant responses, represented as a dense “hump” of peaks in the HPLC chromatograms of acetone extracts from coloured-genotypes. Outcome of meniscal repairs in paediatric population:A tertiary centre experience

BACKGROUND Meniscal sparing surgery is a widely utilised treatment option for unstable meniscal tears with the aim of minimising the risk of progression towards ***,there is limited data in the literature on meniscal repair outcomes in skeletally immature *** To evaluate the re-operation rate and functional outcomes of meniscal repairs in children and *** We performed a retrospective review of all patients who underwent arthroscopic meniscal repair surgery between January 2007 and January *** patients were under the age of 18 at the time of *** were all performed by a single *** was gathered from our hospital Electronic Patient Records *** primary outcome measure was re-operation rate(need for further surgery on the same meniscus).Secondary outcome measures were surgical complications and patient reported outcome measures that were International Knee Documentation Committee(IKDC),Tegner and Lysholm *** We identified 59 patients who underwent 66 All-inside meniscal repairs(32 medial meniscus and 34 Lateral meniscus).Meniscal repairs were performed utilizing FasT-Fix(Smith and Nephew)*** were 37 males and 22 females with an average age of 14 years(range 6-16).The average follow-up time was 53 months(range 26-140).Six patients had concomitant anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery along with the meniscal *** were no requiring further meniscal repairs and 9 patients underwent partial *** mean postoperative IKDC score was 88(44-100),Tegner score was 7(2-10)and Lysholm score was 94(57-100).CONCLUSION Our results showed that arthroscopic repair of meniscal tears in the paediatric population is an effective treatment option that has a low failure rate and good postoperative clinical with the advantage of preserving meniscal tissues.

Assessment of Occupational Radiation Exposure for Radiotherapy Healthcare Workers at Kenyatta National Hospital Using Thermoluminescence Dosimeter LiF:Mg,Ti

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) is the largest public referral hospital with a comprehensive cancer treatment facility in East and Central Africa. Occupational radiation monitoring is a significant technique for demonstrating compliance of radiation regulatory limits. The objective of the study was to carry out assessment of occupational radiation exposure among radiotherapy personnel at KNH using thermoluminescence dosimeter, TLD. KNH staff were monitored using dosimeter type TLD-100 made of LiF:Mg,Ti, on monthly basis. The reader system used for analysis was Harshaw 8800. The measurement established the average monthly accumulated occupational personnel dose for KNH to be 0.21 mSv and 0.29 mSv for Hp (10) and Hp (0.07) respectively. The accumulated dose results were within the maximum acceptable dose of 1.67 mSv/month and 41.6 mSv/month for Hp (10) and Hp (0.07) respectively. The investigation results were higher than the acceptable public limit of 0.08 mSv/month. Moreover, incidences were noted where the fetus dose limit 0.42 was also exceeded. Evaluation of statistical dose exposure among doctors, nurses and radiographers’ measurement results were within ±0.02 mSv. The study established the average KNH occupational radiation exposure levels for both Hp (10) and Hp (0.07) were within the ICRU recommendation, validating radiation protection safe practice. Data analysis of healthcare workers did not indicate exposure trend biased to any healthcare profession. Hence radiation risk cut across all professional categories. It is recommended that Radiation Monitoring program be reviewed to include non-clinical staff who access the facility. Radiation reporting should not be limited to one facility, but reflect cases where workers are involved in multiple multiple jobs.

A Novel Insertion Solution for the Travelling Salesman Problem

The studypresents theHalfMax InsertionHeuristic (HMIH) as a novel approach to solving theTravelling SalesmanProblem (TSP). The goal is to outperform existing techniques such as the Farthest Insertion Heuristic (FIH) andNearest Neighbour Heuristic (NNH). The paper discusses the limitations of current construction tour heuristics,focusing particularly on the significant margin of error in FIH. It then proposes HMIH as an alternative thatminimizes the increase in tour distance and includes more nodes. HMIH improves tour quality by starting withan initial tour consisting of a ‘minimum’ polygon and iteratively adding nodes using our novel Half Max *** paper thoroughly examines and compares HMIH with FIH and NNH via rigorous testing on standard TSPbenchmarks. The results indicate that HMIH consistently delivers superior performance, particularly with respectto tour cost and computational efficiency. HMIH’s tours were sometimes 16% shorter than those generated by FIHand NNH, showcasing its potential and value as a novel benchmark for TSP solutions. The study used statisticalmethods, including Friedman’s Non-parametric Test, to validate the performance of HMIH over FIH and *** guarantees that the identified advantages are statistically significant and consistent in various situations. Thiscomprehensive analysis emphasizes the reliability and efficiency of the heuristic, making a compelling case for itsuse in solving TSP issues. The research shows that, in general, HMIH fared better than FIH in all cases studied,except for a few instances (pr439, eil51, and eil101) where FIH either performed equally or slightly better thanHMIH. HMIH’s efficiency is shown by its improvements in error percentage (δ) and goodness values (g) comparedto FIH and NNH. In the att48 instance, HMIH had an error rate of 6.3%, whereas FIH had 14.6% and NNH had20.9%, indicating that HMIH was closer to the optimal solution. 为探索剑麻渣最佳发酵条件及添加剂使用效果，提高剑麻渣堆肥品质，以剑麻渣为供试材料，设置好氧、厌氧2种发酵条件和无添加剂、单独添加菌剂、单独添加石灰、添加菌剂+石灰4个添加剂处理，测定剑麻渣发酵产物颜色、气味及养分含量等指标。结果表明，好氧条件下，各处理发酵产物颜色总体由黄色向褐色转变，而厌氧条件下变化趋势相反。厌氧条件下剑麻渣发酵产物臭味比好氧条件下浓烈。好氧条件下添加微生物菌剂可减轻产物臭味；添加石灰不论在好氧还是厌氧条件下均可减轻产物臭味。厌氧条件下，发酵液pH（5.0～8.3）普遍低于好氧条件（7.4～8.9）。不同处理剑麻渣发酵固态产物全氮、全磷、全钾含量分别为11.3～19.5、1.8～3.8、0.9～4.3g·kg-1，发酵液全氮、全磷、全钾含量分别为39.9～233.3、5.0～153.5、0.58～0.85 mg·kg-1。好氧条件下，添加菌剂处理固态产物全氮、全磷含量均最高，平均分别达17.6、3.5 g·kg-1。2种发酵条件相比，厌氧条件下发酵液全磷含量普遍高于好氧条件，特别是添加菌剂处理发酵液全磷含量显著提高，平均达84.5 mg·kg-1。在相同添加剂处理下，厌氧条件下剑麻渣质量损失率均低于好氧条件。添加石灰处理剑麻渣质量及氮、磷、钾损失率均显著降低，剑麻渣钾损失率较大，高达75.9%～82.2%。综上，剑麻渣在好氧条件下发酵效果较好，添加微生物菌剂有助于剑麻渣腐熟，添加石灰可减轻剑麻渣发酵产物臭味，菌剂与石灰混合添加时菌剂效果有所下降。建议生产上采用好氧条件下添加微生物菌剂和少量石灰对剑麻渣进行发酵处理。

A prospective cohort of men with localized prostate cancer on active surveillance protocol in Hong Kong,China:what did we learn?

This study aimed to report the outcomes of active surveillance(AS)in the management of low-risk prostate cancer(PCa).It recruited87 men who were prospectively followed up according to the Prostate Cancer Research International Active Surveillance(PRIAS)protocol with local adaptation at SH Ho Urology Centre,Prince of Wales Hospital,Hong Kong,*** investigated the predictorsof disease progression and found that baseline prostate-specific antigen density(PSAD)and the presence of the highest ProstateImaging-Reporting and Data System(PI-RADS)score 5 lesion on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)are significantly correlatedwith disease ***,men with PSAD>0.2 ng ml^(−2)or PI-RADS 4 or 5 lesions had significantly worse upgradingfree survival compared to those with PSAD≤0.2 ng ml−2 and PI-RADS 2 or 3 *** study concludes that AS is a safe andeffective management strategy for selected patients to defer radical treatment and that most disease progression can be detectedafter the first repeated *** combination of PSAD>0.2 ng ml^(−2)and PI-RADS 4 or 5 lesions may serve as a useful predictorof early disease progression and provide a guide to optimize follow-up protocols for men in different risk groups.
