Naringenin suppresses NLRP3 inflammasome activation via the mRNA-208a signaling pathway in isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction

Objective:To investigate the cardioprotective effect of naringenin against isoproterenol(ISO)-induced cardiotoxicity in rats.Methods:Rats were divided into five groups:the normal group,the ISO group(85 mg/kg b.w.);the ISO+naringenin(50 mg/kg b.w.)group,the ISO+naringenin(100 mg/kg b.w.)group and the ISO+propranolol(10 mg/kg b.w.)group.Plasma creatine kinase-MB(CK-MB),cardiac troponin T,lactate dehydrogenase,brain natriuretic peptide(BNP),and IL-10,as well as cardiac transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and malondialdehyde(MDA)were examined.In addition,NLRP3 and mRNA-208a expressions were evaluated by RT-PCR analysis.Histopathological examination was also performed to assess cardiac damages.Results:Naringenin treatment significantly decreased plasma lactate dehydrogenase,CK-MB,cardiac troponin T,BNP,and IL-10,as well as cardiac TGF-β1,VEGF,and MDA while increasing p-Akt and superoxide dismutase in ISO-administered rats.It also reduced NLRP3 and mRNA-208a gene expression levels.Furthermore,naringenin improved ISO-induced cardiac damage.Conclusions:Naringenin attenuates myocardial dysfunction in ISO-treated rats by decreasing oxidative stress and increasing cardiac endogenous antioxidant system,which may be modulated partly by improvement of NLRP3 and mRNA-208a gene expression.

In recent decades,the ozone layer has suffered considerable damage,increasing the entry of ultraviolet(UV)light into the atmosphere and reaching the earth’s surface,negatively affecting life.Accordingly,researchers aimed to solve this problem by synthesizing advanced UV-shielding materials.On the other hand,developing an easy and green strategy to prepare functional materials with outstanding properties based on naturally abundant and environmentally friendly raw materials is highly desirable for sustainable development.Because biomass-derived materials are sustainable and biodegradable,they present a promising substitute for petroleum-based polymers.The three main structural constituents of the plant biomass-based materials that are naturally available are cellulose,hemicellulose,and lignin.This review details current developments using wood-based products such as cellulose,hemicellulose,and lignin in UV-shielding applications.It will start with assembling the structure and chemistry of cellulose,hemicellulose,and lignin,followed by their contributions to preparing UV-shielding materials.Finally,it will briefly discuss the different processing methods for the design of UV-shielding materials.The wood by-products offer additional opportunities to use the whole tree harvest.

Manipulating Nb-doped SrFeO_(3−δ)with excellent performance for proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells

Nb-doped SrFeO_(3−δ)(SFO)is used as a cathode in proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells(H-SOFCs).First-principles calculations show that the SrFe0.9Nb0.1O_(3−δ)(SFNO)cathode has a lower energy barrier in the cathode reaction for H-SOFCs than the Nb-free SrFeO_(3−δ)cathode.Subsequent experimental studies show that Nb doping substantially enhances the performance of the SrFeO_(3−δ)cathode.Then,oxygen vacancies(VO)were introduced into SFNO using the microwave sintering method,further improving the performance of the SFNO cathode.The mechanism behind the performance improvement owing to VO was revealed using first-principles calculations,with further optimization of the SFNO cathode achieved by developing a suitable wet chemical synthesis route to prepare nanosized SFNO materials.This method significantly reduces the grain size of SFNO compared with the conventional solid-state reaction method,although the solid-state reaction method is generally used for preparing Nb-containing oxides.As a result of defect engineering and synthesis approaches,the SFNO cathode achieved an attractive fuel cell performance,attaining an output of 1764 mW·cm−2 at 700°C and operating for more than 200 h.The manipulation of Nb-doped SrFeO_(3−δ)can be seen as a“one stone,two birds”strategy,enhancing cathode performance while retaining good stability,thus providing an interesting approach for constructing high-performance cathodes for H-SOFCs.

Implementing Effective Learning with Ubiquitous Learning Technology During Coronavirus Pandemic

Ubiquitous computing supports U-learning to develop and implement a new educational environment that provides effective and interactive learning to students wherever they are.This study aims to present a qualitative evaluation for using U-learning instead of traditional education to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.The authors introduce a UTAUT(Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology)model to assess the capability of the given factors that are expected to affect the learners’intention and behavior for accepting the U-learning technology for full E-learning.The research study shows a promising impact on the use of U-learning apps for implementing their learning activities in both the present and coming stage.The study also presents the descriptive statistics that affect the students’answers by using U-learning while implementing learning assignments including exams,projects,forums,essays,presentations,and laboratories.The research experiments demonstrate both the composite reliability(CR)and the average variance extracted(AVE)of the presented paradigm.The experimental results have shown that(1)the factor loadings≥0.75,CR≥0.9,and AVE≥0.75,which present appropriate proof for the validity and reliability of the proposed model,and(2)the total average of students that accept the U-learning is 82.99%,and who disagree is 8.13%,while who neither agree nor disagree is 6.44%.

Fibrosis regression following hepatitis C antiviral therapy

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is one of the most common causes of liver pathology.It is a major etiological factor of continuous liver injury by triggering an uncontrolled inflammatory response,causing liver fibrosis and cirrhosis.Liver fibrosis is a dynamic process that can be reversible upon timely cessation of the injurious agent,which in cases of HCV is represented by the sustained virological response(SVR)following antiviral therapies.Direct-acting antiviral therapy has recently revolutionized HCV therapy and minimized complications.Liver fibrosis can be assessed with variable invasive and non-invasive methods,with certain limitations.Despite the broad validation of the diagnostic and prognostic value of non-invasive modalities of assessment of liver fibrosis in patients with HCV,the proper interpretation of liver stiffness measurement in patients after SVR remains unclear.It is also still a debate whether this regression is caused by the resolution of liver injury following treatment of HCV,rather than true fibrosis regression.Regression of liver fibrosis can possess a positive impact on patient's quality of life reducing the incidence of complications.However,fibrosis regression does not abolish the risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma,which mandates regular screening of patients with advanced fibrosis.

Development of Magnetite/Graphene Oxide Hydrogels from Agricultural Wastes for Water Treatment

A novel magnetic hydrogel loaded with graphene oxide(GO)was developed in this study.Firstly,GO was prepared from bagasse through a single step via oxidation in the presence of ferrocene under muffled atmospheric conditions,followed by the loading of different amounts of magnetite onto GO via co-precipitation reaction of iron onto GO sheets.Finally,the 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic acid was grafted onto carboxymethyl cellulose in the presence of magnetite GO and N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide as crosslinker yielded hydrogel.The structure,morphological,and thermal behavior of the prepared hydrogels were investigated.In addition,the adsorption performance of Ni(Ⅱ)ions from aqueous media by the prepared hydrogels was investigated as a function of temperature,time,and concentration of adsorbate in a batch system.The results demonstrated a remarkable enhancement in the adsorption process of Ni(Ⅱ)(Removal efficiency=98.82%).All isotherms were found to fit the Langmuir model best.The adsorption properties of both magnetic GO and magnetic hydrogel showed promising properties as green and cheap adsorbents.

Overactivation of histone deacetylases and EZH2 in Wilms tumorigenesis

Wilms tumor (WT) is the most common childhood kidney cancer. Although WT is largely curable, current treatments fail in up to 15 percent of patients. Moreover, survivors suffer from the complications and late effects of the aggressive treatments. Thus, there is a critical need to improve our understanding of tumorigenesis to develop novel therapies to reduce the treatment burden while maintaining excellent survival rates. WT is believed to arise from the immature kidney cells, nephron progenitor cells (NPCs), which have failed to differentiate properly. Previous studies revealed that Wilms cells share a transcriptional and epigenetic landscape with normal renal stem cells.1 Although several studies have shown the positive associations between WT in children and embryonic exposure to adverse environments, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Altered epigenetics is central to oncogenesis in many pediatric cancers. The critical contribution of epigenetic dysregulation to pediatric tumors provides a compelling rationale for the therapeutic potential of epigenetic drugs. Histone deacetylases (HDACs) and Enhancer of Zeste Homolog 2 (EZH2, a histone H3K27 methyltransferase), have been demonstrated to play a critical role in self-renewal and differentiation of mouse NPCs.2,3 In addition, altered expression and mutations of HDACs and EZH2 have been linked to many human cancers, including WT. Thus, they are among the most promising therapeutic targets for cancer treatment. We reasoned that WT would result from the unrestrained proliferation of progenitor cells due to overactive HDAC1/2 (HDAC1 and HDAC2), and EZH2. We tested this hypothesis by analyzing a clinical specimen received from the left kidney tumor of an 11-year-old male patient diagnosed with WT and four other human WT specimens. BACKGROUND Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)is a highly prevalent gastrointestinal disorder in children and adults,which increased over the past twenty years.The Mediterranean diet is a well-known diet full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients.AIM To evaluate the safety,tolerability,and effects of adherence to the Mediterranean diet on disease patterns in children and adolescents with IBS.METHODS This prospective,cross-sectional case-controlled study included 100 consecutive IBS patients diagnosed according to Rome IV criteria,aged 12-18 years.Patients Group II on their regular diet for six months.Besides IBS scores(IBS-SSS,IBS-QoL,and total score),different clinical and laboratory parameters were evaluated at the start and end of the study.RESULTS The Mediterranean diet was safe and well-tolerated in IBS patients.IBS children and adolescents with good adherence to the Mediterranean diet(KIDMED Score≥8 points);group I showed significant improvement in IBS scores.IBS-SSS in the Mediterranean diet group was 237.2±65 at the beginning of the study and decreased to 163.2±33.8 at the end of the study(Pel in group II at the study end(59.2±12.7 with P0.05).The mean total IBS score in group I became 28.8±11.2 at the end of our study compared to 24.1±10.4 at the start(Pel in group II at the end of the study(22.1±12.5 with P<0.05),while in group II,non-significant impro

At this current time,data stream classification plays a key role in big data analytics due to its enormous growth.Most of the existing classification methods used ensemble learning,which is trustworthy but these methods are not effective to face the issues of learning from imbalanced big data,it also supposes that all data are pre-classified.Another weakness of current methods is that it takes a long evaluation time when the target data stream contains a high number of features.The main objective of this research is to develop a new method for incremental learning based on the proposed ant lion fuzzy-generative adversarial network model.The proposed model is implemented in spark architecture.For each data stream,the class output is computed at slave nodes by training a generative adversarial network with the back propagation error based on fuzzy bound computation.This method overcomes the limitations of existing methods as it can classify data streams that are slightly or completely unla.eled data and providing high scalability and efficiency.The results show that the proposed model outperforms stateof-the-art performance in terms of accuracy(0.861)precision(0.9328)and minimal MSE(0.0416).

Association between IL-37 and VEGF Gene Expression in Psoriasis Pathogenesis in Egyptian Population

Background: Psoriasis is considered a common skin disease, marked by the production and elevation of inflammatory plaques that regularly shed scales resulting from extensive skin epithelial cell proliferation. T lymphocytes, neutrophils, and other leukocytes enter the irritated skin, resulting in epidermal keratinocyte hyperplasia, vascular hyperplasia, ectasia, and T lymphocyte, neutrophil other forms of leukocyte infiltration. Aim of the Work: the study aimed to investigate the role of IL-37 and VEGF gene expression in the pathogenesis of psoriasis in Egyptian patients. Methodology: Polymerase chain reaction techniques (PCR) were applied to detect VEGF in the skin homogenates of psoriasis patients. In addition, the elIZA technique was applied to investigate IL-37 in skin homogenates. One hundred cases have been divided into two groups: 50 healthy volunteers as the group I healthy control;50 psoriasis patients as group II. PCR real-time technology was assessed through extracted DNA samples for VEGF amplification in skin homogenate. Result: Our results revealed that psoriasis patients significantly had a substantial reduction in IL-37 compared to the control group (p Conclusion: There is a significant inverse association between IL-37 and VEGF in psoriasis patients. Study findings revealed that IL-37 gene expression decreases while VEGF gene expression increases in psoriatic individuals. Such a measurement may be beneficial in determining the severity of the condition, as well as taking into consideration of the disease’s diagnosis.
