Reducing the production costs of clean energy carriers such as hydrogen through scalable water electrolysis is a potential solution for advancing the hydrogen *** the various material candidates,our group demonstrated transition-metal-based materials with tunable electronic characteristics,various phases,and ***,electrochemical water oxidation using Cu_(2)Se-V_(2)O_(5) as a non-precious metallic electrocatalyst via a hydrothermal approach is *** water-splitting performance of all the fabricated electrocatalysts was evaluated after direct growth on a stainless-steel *** electrochemically tuned Cu_(2)Se-V_(2)O_(5) catalyst exhibited a reduced overpotential of 128 mV and provided a reduced Tafel slope of 57 mV·dec^(−1) to meet the maximum current density of 250 mA·cm^(−2).The optimized strategy for interfacial coupling of the fabricated Cu_(2)Se-V_(2)O_(5) catalyst resulted in a porous structure with accessible active sites,which enabled adsorption of the intermediates and afforded an effective charge transfer rate for promoting the oxygen evolution ***,the combined effect of the catalyst components provided long-term stability for over 110 h in an alkaline solution,which makes the catalyst promising for large-scale practical *** aforementioned advantages of the composite catalyst overcome the limitations of low conductivity,agglomeration,and poor stability of the pure catalysts(Cu2Se and V2O5).

The potential of the visible infrared(Vis–IR)(400–1100 nm)transmittance method to assess the internal quality(freshness)of intact chicken egg during storage at a temperature of 30±7C and 25±4%relative humidity was *** hundred chicken egg samples were used for measuring freshness and spectra collection during egg storage(up to 25 days).Two correlation models,firstly between haugh unit(hU)and storage time,and secondly between the yolk coefficient(YC)and storage time,were developed and yielded correlation coefficients(R^2)of 0.86 and 0.96,*** models spanned the period for which egg quality decreased dramatically and are statistically significant(Phe dimensionality of the spectra and extract effective wavelengths,two methods were developed based on principal component analysis(PCA)and a genetic algorithm(GA).The output of PCA and GA were also used comparatively to design an egg quality intelligent *** result of the analyses indicated that identification ratio of GAwith fast Fourier transform(FFT)preprocessing was superior to other methods,and that the quality classification rates of this method for one-day-old eggs are 100%.This study shows that identification of an egg’s freshness using NIR spectroscopy with GA and artificial neural network(ANN)is reliable.

Quenching effect of deferoxamine on free radical-mediated photon production in luminol and ortho-phenanthroline-dependent chemiluminescence

Removing excessive free radicals （FRs） by a synthetic chemical might give a clue for treatment of many iron-mediated diseases. Deferoxamine （DFO） can be one of the chemicals of choice for the clue. To investigate photoredox properties of DFO, its quenching effect on superoxide radical （O2°）, hydrogen peroxide （h202） and hydroxyl radical （Oh~） was examined using luminol and ortho-phenanthroline （o- phen） chemiluminescence （CL） systems and UV-vis spectrophotometry. Stern-Volmer equation was also used for the CL kinetics. The observed quenching effect of DFO on CL]photon production in luminol and o-phen CL systems strongly confirmed the static arm of quenching properties of DFO on Oh° and h2O2, but much less pronounced on O2^-°; the quenching property was maximal when iron was involved in the reaction systems. The Stern-Volmer plots in the designed photochemical reaction systems also confirmed a potent quenching effect of DFO on FR-mediated CL. Our study highlights strong photoreducing and antioxidant properties of DFO with huge quenching capacity on excessive FRs, and thus implies its promising prospects for therapeutic applications.

AM: To establish and characterize a new cholangiocarcinoma cell line from a patient living in the Opisthorchis viverrini (O. viverrini) endemic area of Northeast Thailand. METhODS: Fresh liver biopsy and bile specimens were obtained from a 65-year-old Thai woman with cholangiocarcinoma of the ports hepatis. After digestion, the cells were cultured in ham's F12 media. The established cell line was then characterized for growth kinetics, cell morphology, imm-unocytochemistry and cytogenetics. Tumorigenicity of the cell line was determined by heterotransplanting in nude mice. RESULTS: The primary tumor was a poorly differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma. Examination of the bile revealed malignant cells with O. viverrin eggs. The cholangiocarcinoma cell line KKU-100 was established 4 mo after the primary culture-population doubling time was 72 h. KKU-100 possesses compact and polygonal-shaped epithelial cells. Immunocytochemically, this cell line exhibited cytokeratin, EMA, CEA, and CA125, but not a-fetoprotein (AFP), CA19-9, desmin, c-met, or p53. Such protein expressions parallel those of the primary tumor. Cytogenetic analysis identified aneuploidy karyotypes with a modal chromosome number of 78 and marked chromosomal structural changes. Inoculation of KKU-100 cells into nude mice produced a transplantable, poorly differentiated aden-ocarcinoma, similar to the original tumor. CONCLUSION: KKU-100 is the first egg-proven, Opisthorchis- associated cholangiocarcinoma cell line, which should prove useful for further investigations of the tumor biology of this cancer.

This work is focused on developing zinc-doped hydroxyapatite-zeolite(Zn hA-Zeo)and polycaprolactone(PCL)composite coatings on magnesium(Mg)substrate to improve the corrosion resistance and antimicrobial ***-coating technique was used to coat Zn hA-Zeo/PCL on the Mg substrate at room *** samples were subjected to field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX)and antimicrobial *** demonstrated that composite coatings consist of hA,scholzite,zeolite,and PCL *** spectra indicated the presence of calcium(Ca),silicon(Si),aluminum(Al),zinc(Zn),phosphorus(P)and oxygen(O).The composite surface appeared in spherical-like microstructure on coating with thickness ranging 226-260μ***-doped hA-Zeo composite coating had a high corrosion resistance and provided sufficient protection to the Mg surface against galvanic *** Zn hA-Zeo coating samples exhibited superior disc inhibition by confirming antimicrobial activity against the *** as compared to hA-Zeo *** these results showed that the Zn hA-Zeo coatings not only improved the corrosion resistance,but also enhanced the antimicrobial property and hence they can be used as suitable candidates for implant applications.

背景虽然目前植入型心脏复律除颤器(ICD)已经越来越多地应用到严重心衰患者(心功能III/IV级)中,但是其应用受到泵衰竭容易引起死亡以及数据较少的限制。本研究的目的是评估QRS波群宽度和疾病病因对植入ICD的严重心衰患者生存率和再入院率的影响。方法纳入了1996—2000年间出院的438例心衰患者(年龄56±15岁,心脏射血分数29%±15%,76%患者的心脏分级为III/IV级)进行回顾性研究。结果438例患者中有94例因非持续性(51.1%)或持续性室性心动过速(24.4%)、晕厥(16.0%)或出于预防目的(8.5%)植入了ICD。所有植入ICD患者的基线平均射血分数较低(25%vs30%,P=0.007),但符合心功能IV级症状的患者比例并不高(33%vs44%,P=0.164)。结果发现,植入ICD的患者具有较高的生存率(RR0.48,P=0.001),但其再入院率也较高(RR1.41,P=0.031)。在缺血性和非缺血性亚组分析中,植入ICD患者的生存率具有明显的优势(RR0.38,P=0.003;RR0.54,P=0.042)。QRS<120ms并植入ICD的患者具有生存率较高的趋势(RR0.42,P=0.119),但其再入院率也升高(RR2.13,P=0.021)。QRS≥120ms并植入ICD的患者具有较高的生存率(RR0.45,P=0.001),而再入院率不升高(RR1.22,P=0.314)。结论严重心衰患者植入ICD可以比未植入患者获得更高的生存率,但是其再住院率也升高。而且该治疗对QRS波群宽度延长患者的益处更明显。
