Assembly of functional carboxymethyl cellulose/polyethylene oxide/anatase TiO_(2) nanocomposites and tuning the dielectric relaxation, optical, and photoluminescence performances

Nanocomposite films consisting of carboxymethyl cellulose,polyethylene oxide(CmC/PEO),and anatase titanium diox-ide(TO)were produced by the use of sol-gel and solution casting techniques.TiO2 nanocrystals were effectively incorporated into CmC/PEO polymers,as shown by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and attenuated total reflectance fourier transform infrared(ATR-FTIR)analysis.The roughness growth is at high levels of TO nanocrystals(TO NCs),which means increasing active sites and defects in CmC/PEO.In differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)thermograms,the change in glass transition temperature(Tg)val-ues verifies that the polymer blend interacts with TO NCs.The increment proportions of TO NCs have a notable impact on the dielectric performances of the nanocomposites,as observed.The electrical properties of the CmC/PEO/TO nanocomposite undergo significant changes.The nanocomposite films exhibit a red alteration in the absorption edge as the concentration of TO NCs increases in the polymer blend.The decline in the energy gap is readily apparent as the weight percentage of TO NCs increases.The photoluminescence(PL)emission spectra indicate that the sites of the luminescence peak maximums show slight variation;peaks get wider,while their intensities decrease dramatically as the concentration of TO increases.These nanocomposite materials show potential for multifunctional applications including optoelectronics,antireflection coatings,pho-tocatalysis,light emitting diodes,and solid polymer electrolytes.

Axial Length Evaluation before and after myopic Corneal Refractive Surgery Using IOL master

Purpose: To evaluate axial length before and after the photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). Setting: Alhokama Eye Center, Riyadh Saudi Arabia. Design: A cross-sectional study. methods: The study sample was comprised of 106 eyes of 54 patients. Patients were divided into 2 groups based on whether they had photorefractive surgery (PRK group) or laser in situ keratomiluesis (LASIK group). The intra-group comparison was performed of the changes in axial length before and after surgery using IOLmaster. P Results: There were 76 eyes (39 patients) in the PRK group with the mean age of 25.10 ± 3.47 years, the mean preoperative spherical equivalent of -3.16 ± 1.75 D, and the mean preoperative axial length of 24.79 ± 1.02 mm. In the LASIK group, there were 30 eyes (15 patients) with the mean age of 25.13 ± 4.91 years and the mean preoperative spherical equivalent of -5.58 ± 1.98 D and the mean preoperative axial length of 25.67 ± 1.35 mm. Postoperatively, the mean axial length was 24.70 ± 1.14 mm in the PRK group and 25.60 ± 1.33 mm in the LASIK group. The mean change between the preoperative and postoperative axial length was statically significant in both groups (P Conclusion: There was a statically significant decrease in the axial length measurements after PRK or LASIK for myopia.

medical treatment of inflammatory punctual stenosis monitored by anterior segment optical coherence tomography

AIm:To evaluate the role of medical treatment in the management of inflammatory punctum stenosis guided by spectral domain anterior segment optical coherence tomography(OCT).mETHODS:This prospective study included 60 patients complaining of epiphora due to inflammatory punctual stenosis.They were divided into two groups:Group A(30 patients)treated with a combination of preservative free hydrocortisone sodium phosphate 3.35 mg/m L eye drops,and preservative free artificial tears based on sodium hyaluronate,polyethylene and propylene Glycol;Group B(30 patients)treated with the same preservative free artificial tears only.Thirty normal subjects were included for comparison of pre-treatment anatomical parameters.Before starting treatment,all patients underwent anterior segment assessment including slit lamp examination,measurement of intraocular pressure(IOP),fluorescein dye disappearance test,and measurement of the outer punctum diameter(OPD)by Spectral domain anterior segment OCT.All assessments were repeated at each follow up done at 1 and 3 mo later,together with subjective evaluation of patient’s satisfaction of the treatment outcome by simple rating questionnaire.RESULTS:Punctual diameter increased significantly with treatment in both groups(Pmore in Group A as compared to group B(16.2%vs 8%of the original punctual size,mean difference of 28.933μm,P=0.0076).Subjective satisfaction with treatment outcome was also better in group A(70%vs 40%,Chi-square P=0.0397).CONCLUSION:A combination of preservative free steroid eye drops and artificial tears causes significant widening of inflammed stenotic punctae and improvement of the associated epiphora.

Repurposed anti-cancer epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors: mechanisms of neuroprotective effects in Alzheimer’s disease

Numerous molecular mechanisms are being examined in an attempt to discover disease-modifying drugs to slow down the underlying neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease.Recent studies have shown the beneficial effects of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors on the enhancement of behavioral and pathological sequelae in Alzheimer’s disease.Despite the promising effects of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors in Alzheimer’s disease,there is no irrefutable neuroprotective evidence in well-established animal models using epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors due to many un-explored downstream signaling pathways.This caused controversy about the potential involvement of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors in any prospective clinical trial.In this review,the mystery beyond the under-investigation of epidermal growth factor receptor in Alzheimer’s disease will be discussed.Furthermore,their molecular mechanisms in neurodegeneration will be explained.Also,we will shed light on SARS-COVID-19 induced neurological manifestations mediated by epidermal growth factor modulation.Finally,we will discuss future perspectives and under-examined epidermal growth factor receptor downstream signaling pathways that warrant more exploration.We conclude that epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors are novel effective therapeutic approaches that require further research in attempts to be repositioned in the delay of Alzheimer’s disease progression.

Virtual cloud network(VCN)usage is popular today among large and small organizations due to its safety and money-saving.moreover,it makes all resources in the company work as one *** also facilitates sharing of files and applications without effort.However,cloud providers face many issues in managing the VCN on cloud computing including these issues:Power consumption,network failures,and data availability.These issues often occur due to overloaded and unbalanced load tasks.In this paper,we propose a new automatic system to manage VCN for executing the workflow.The new system calledmulti-User Hybrid Scheduling(mUSH)can solve running issues and save power during workflow execution.It consists of three phases:Initialization,virtual machine allocation,and task scheduling algorithms.The mUSH system focuses on the execution of the workflow with deadline constraints.moreover,it considers the utilization of virtual machines.The new system can save makespan and increase the throughput of the execution operation.

Latency-Aware Dynamic Second Offloading Service in SDN-Based Fog Architecture

Task offloading is a key strategy in Fog Computing (FC). Thedefinition of resource-constrained devices no longer applies to sensors andInternet of Things (IoT) embedded system devices alone. Smart and mobileunits can also be viewed as resource-constrained devices if the power, cloudapplications, and data cloud are included in the set of required resources. Ina cloud-fog-based architecture, a task instance running on an end device mayneed to be offloaded to a fog node to complete its execution. However, ina busy network, a second offloading decision is required when the fog nodebecomes overloaded. The possibility of offloading a task, for the second time,to a fog or a cloud node depends to a great extent on task importance, latencyconstraints, and required resources. This paper presents a dynamic service thatdetermines which tasks can endure a second offloading. The task type, latencyconstraints, and amount of required resources are used to select the offloadingdestination node. This study proposes three heuristic offloading algorithms.Each algorithm targets a specific task type. An overloaded fog node can onlyissue one offloading request to execute one of these algorithms accordingto the task offloading priority. Offloading requests are sent to a SoftwareDefined Networking (SDN) controller. The fog node and controller determinethe number of offloaded tasks. Simulation results show that the average timerequired to select offloading nodes was improved by 33% when compared tothe dynamic fog-to-fog offloading algorithm. The distribution of workloadconverges to a uniform distribution when offloading latency-sensitive nonurgenttasks. The lowest offloading priority is assigned to latency-sensitivetasks with hard deadlines. At least 70% of these tasks are offloaded to fognodes that are one to three hops away from the overloaded node.

Fuzzy Control Based Resource Scheduling in IoT Edge Computing

Edge Computing is a new technology in Internet of Things(IoT)paradigm that allows sensitive data to be sent to disperse devices quickly and without delay.Edge is identical to Fog,except its positioning in the end devices is much nearer to end-users,making it process and respond to clients in less time.Further,it aids sensor networks,real-time streaming apps,and the IoT,all of which require high-speed and dependable internet access.For such an IoT system,Resource Scheduling Process(RSP)seems to be one of the most important tasks.This paper presents a RSP for Edge Computing(EC).The resource characteristics are first standardized and normalized.Next,for task scheduling,a Fuzzy Control based Edge Resource Scheduling(FCERS)is suggested.The results demonstrate that this technique enhances resource scheduling efficiency in EC and Quality of Service(QoS).The experimental study revealed that the suggested FCERS method in this work converges quicker than the other methods.Our method reduces the total computing cost,execution time,and energy consumption on average compared to the baseline.The ES allocates higher processing resources to each user in case of limited availability of mDs;this results in improved task execution time and a reduced total task computation cost.Additionally,the proposed FCERS m 1m may more efficiently fetch user requests to suitable resource categories,increasing user requirements.

Diabetes is a complex condition,and the causes are still not fully understood.However,a growing body of evidence suggests that exposure to air pollution could be linked to an increased risk of diabetes.Specifically,exposure to certain pollutants,such as particulate matter and Ozone,has been associated with higher rates of diabetes.At the same time,air pollution has also been linked to an increased risk of thyroid cancer.While there is less evidence linking air pollution to thyroid cancer than to diabetes,it is clear that air pollution could have severe implications for thyroid health.Air pollution could increase the risk of diabetes and thyroid cancer through several mechanisms.For example,air pollution could increase inflammation in the body,which is linked to an increased risk of diabetes and thyroid cancer.Air pollution could also increase oxidative stress,which is linked to an increased risk of diabetes and thyroid cancer.Additionally,air pollution could increase the risk of diabetes and thyroid cancer by affecting the endocrine system.This review explores the link between diabetes and air pollution on thyroid cancer.We will discuss the evidence for an association between air pollution exposure and diabetes and thyroid cancer,as well as the potential implications of air pollution for thyroid health.Given the connections between diabetes,air pollution,and thyroid cancer,it is essential to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of developing the condition.

An Evaluation to the Performance of Evacuated Tube Solar Heaters for Arid and Hot Areas

Solar energy applications could be the best alternative to the conventional fuels for the purposes of domestic,water and space heating and some industries in the sunny,arid,and hot areas.In the present study,the performance of an evacuated tube solar heater for water heating for months of February and march was experimentally investigated.This was performed in a hot and arid area(Nasiriya City,South of Iraq).A solar heater with ten evacuated tube solar collectors with a capacity of 100 liter was used in the experiments.Each evacuated tube had a length of 1.8m with an outside diameter of 8 cm.It was observed that for the two selected months,water temperature of the solar heater reached a maximum more than 70°C during sunny days with no heat extraction from the tank of the solar heater.moreover,heat was extracted from the solar collector with four different flowrates 0.5,0.75,1,and 1.25 l/min,respectively.The results showed that temperature of the solar heater behaved differently from the static situation.When the heat extraction begun,there was a gradual and noticeable decrease in the water temperature of the heater.The observed decrease was slight with the lowest flowrate(0.25 l/m)and becomes sharp with the highest flowrate(1.25 l/min).However,water temperature of the solar heater remained higher than 40°C for the investigated flowrates except the case of 1.25 l/min.The results showed that evacuated tube solar heater can work efficiently in arid and hot areas in winter and spring seasons when the conditions of solar radiation are suitable.

Effect of restoration technique on resistance to fracture of endodontically treated anterior teeth with flared root canals

This study was designed to compare the impact of post and core systems on resistance to fracture of endodontically treated anterior teeth with flared root canals and to assess their fracture pattern. Sixty central incisors were cut horizontally 2 mm coronal to the cementoenamel junction(CEJ). After root canal therapy, teeth were assigned into 6 groups(n = 10 each) based on a post system and used as follows: Group C, non-flared root received size #1 glass fiber posts(Control); Group AP, flared root restored with anatomical post; Group RC, flared root restored with size #1 fiber post and cemented with thick layer of resin cement; Group CR, flared root restored with size #1 and reinforced with composite resin; Group Cm, cast post-core; Group CP, CAD/CAm polymer-infiltrated ceramic post and core.Following post cementation, core build-up and crown insertion, the specimens were thermo-cycled up to 10,000 cycles(5 C/55 C; 30 seconds dwell time, 6 seconds transition time) and then statically loaded at 1 mm/minute crosshead speed using a universal testing machine. One-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD post hoc test(α= 0.05) were used for data analysis. Group C recorded significantly higher resistance to fracture values [(826.9±39.1) N] followed by group CP [(793.8±55.6) N] while group RC yielded the lowest fracture resistance values [(586.7±51.4) N]. The resistance to fracture of wide root canals can be enhanced by using one-piece CAm/CAm post and core as an alternative to the use of either glass fiber post, relined with composite resin increasing the thickness of luting cement or the use of cast post and core system. However, this was an in vitro investigation and further in vivo studies are necessary.
