Gravitational search algorithm for coordinated design of PSS and TCSC as damping controller

A newly developed heuristic global optimization algorithm, called gravitational search algorithm （GSA）, was introduced and applied for simultaneously coordinated designing of power system stabilizer （PSS） and thyristor controlled series capacitor （TCSC） as a damping controller in the multi-machine power system. The coordinated design problem of PSS and TCSC controllers over a wide range of loading conditions is formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem which is the aggregation of two objectives related to damping ratio and damping factor. By minimizing the objective function with oscillation, the characteristics between areas are contained and hence the interactions among the PSS and TCSC controller under transient conditions are modified. For evaluation of effectiveness and robustness of proposed controllers, the performance was tested on a weakly connected power system subjected to different disturbances, loading conditions and system parameter variations. The cigenvalues analysis and nonlinear simulation results demonstrate the high performance of proposed controllers which is able to provide efficient damping of low frequency oscillations.

Fused deposition modeling （FDM） is one of the most popuIar additive manufacturing technologies for various engineering applications. FDM process has been introduced commercially in early 1990s by Stratasys Inc., USA. The quality of FDM processed parts mainly depends on careful selection of process variables. Thus, identifica- tion of the FDM process parameters that significantly affect the quality of FDM processed parts is important. In recent years, researchers have explored a number of ways to improve the mechanical properties and part quality using various experimental design techniques and concepts. This article aims to review the research carried out so far in determining and optimizing the process parameters of the FDM process. Several statistical designs of experiments and optimization techniques used for the determination of optimum process parameters have been examined. The trends for future FDM research in this area are described.

Text-Independent Algorithm for Source Printer Identification Based on Ensemble Learning

Because of the widespread availability of low-cost printers and scanners,document forgery has become extremely *** or signatures are used to protect important papers such as certificates,passports,and identification *** the origins of printed documents is helpful for criminal investigations and also for authenticating digital versions of a document in today’s *** printer identification(SPI)has become increasingly popular for identifying frauds in printed *** paper provides a proposed algorithm for identifying the source printer and categorizing the questioned document into one of the printer classes.A dataset of 1200 papers from 20 distinct(13)laser and(7)inkjet printers achieved significant identification results.A proposed algorithm based on global features such as the histogram of Oriented Gradient(hOG)and local features such as Local Binary Pattern(LBP)descriptors has been proposed for printer *** classification,Decision Trees(DT),k-Nearest Neighbors(k-NN),Random Forests,Aggregate bootstrapping(bagging),Adaptive-boosting(boosting),Support Vector Machine(SVM),and mixtures of these classifiers have been *** proposed algorithm can accurately classify the questioned documents into their appropriate printer *** adaptive boosting classifier attained a 96%*** proposed algorithm is compared to four recently published algorithms that used the same dataset and gives better classification accuracy.

Colonic gallstones:a case report

BACKGROUND:Colonic gallstone is an uncommon entity with high morbidity and mortality due to various reasons. It remains a diagnostic challenge because of delayed and non-specific presentations,especially in the elderly population,often with multiple co-morbidities. METhOD:We present a case of 81-year-old woman who had a large bowel obstruction due to colonic gallstone. RESULTS:Immediately after a cholecysto-colonic fistula was found by laporotomy,she underwent a single stage enterolithotomy,cholecystectomy and fistula closure. CONCLUSIONS:A single stage enterolithotomy,cholecys- tectomy and fistula closure is ideal for this condition. Various other surgical options in the literature are discussed.

Mineralogy,Chemical Characteristics and Upgrading of Beach Ilmenite of the Top Meter of Black Sand Deposits of the Kafr Al-Sheikh Governorate,Northern Egypt

Egyptian beach ilmenite occurs in a relatively high content in the naturally highly concentrated superficial black sand deposits at specific beach zones in the northern parts of the Nile Delta at Rosetta. Microscopic study shows that the ilmenite occurs as fresh homogeneous black or heterogeneous multicoloured altered grains and exhibits three types （homogeneous, exsolved and altered） of ilmenite varieties. XRD data of ilmenite indicates their association with minor hematite and quartz, whereas leucoxene shows its association with Nb-rutUe, pseudorutile and hematite. Grain size distribution suggests a very fine sand size of 〉89% and 80% and a fine sand size of 10.5% and 18.3% for fresh and altered ilmenites, respectively. The density of fresh, altered ilmenite and leucoxene concentrates varies from 2.70, 2.50 to 2.40 ton/m^3, suggesting a gradual decrease from high grade fresh to leucoxene and consistent with variation in magnetic susceptibility as a consequence of the leaching of iron. Mass magnetic susceptibility reveals 97.6% of ilmenite and 92% of the altered form are obtained at 0.20 and 0.48 ampere. Fresh iimenite exhibits variable TiO2 （47.18%） and Fe2O3^T （46.10%） with minor MnO, MgO and Cr2O3 （1.22, 1.10 and 0.51%）. The altered ilmenite is higher in TiO2 （76.16%） and SiO2 （4.68%） and lower in Fe2O3^T （14.45%）, MnO, MgO and Cr2O3 （0.39, 0.52 and 0.11%） compared with the fresh form. Three concentrates of ilmenites （G1, G2 and G3） were prepared from crude ore using a Reading cross belt magnetic separator under different conditions, revealing a gradual increase of TiO2, SiO2, Al2O3 and CaO accompanied by a decrease of Fe2O3^T, MgO and Cr2O3 with repetition of the separation processes. Several ore dressing techniques were carried out to upgrade the iimenite concentrate.

Liver stiffness as a predictor of hepatocellular carcinoma behavior in patients with hepatitis C related liver cirrhosis

Background: Risk strati cation and prognostication of hepatocellular carcinoma (hCC) help to improve patient outcome. herein we investigated the role of liver stiffness measurement (LSM) in the prediction of hCC behavior. Methods: Totally 121 na ve patients with hCC were included. hCC radiological evaluation and staging were done. LSM was measured using virtual touch quanti cation. Patients were divided into early to intermediate hCC (BCLC-0, A and B) and late hCC (BCLCC and D). hCC was treated according to the BCLC stage. hCC recurrence-free interval was estimated. Results: The mean LSM inside the tumor was signi cantly lower than the peri-tumoral area and the cirrhotic non-cancerous liver parts (PhCCs stage, the mean LSM inside the tumor and in the peri-tumoral tissue was lower than the corresponding values in the early to intermediate hCCs stage (Phe tumor and in the peri-tumoral tissue negatively correlated with serum AFP, tumor vascular invasion, and stage (Phe recurrence-free interval was directly correlated to LSM inside the tumor and inversely to LSM in cirrhotic non tumorous liver part. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the recurrence-free interval was signi cantly longer in patients with LSM inside the tumor of ≥1.25m/s compared to those with LSM inside the tumor ofhCC clinical behavior and the recurrence-free interval following loco-regional treatments.
