In this study we investigated the hypolipidemic and anti-lipoprotein-oxidation activities of phenolic extract from sweet basil a popular culinary *** hypolipidemic activity was studied in mice model injected intraperitoneally with Triton WR-1339 at a dose of 200 mg/kg body *** animals were grouped as follows:normolipidemic control group(n=8),hyperlipidemic control group(n=8)and phenolic extract-treated group(n=8)at a dose of 200 mg/kg body *** 7 h and 24 h treatment,the oral administration of the phenolic extract exerts a significant reduction of plasma total cholesterol,triglycerides and LDL-cholesterol concentrations(P<0.001).On the other hand,we demonstrated that the phenolic extract prevents plasma lipid oxidation by 16%(P<0.001),20%(P<0.001),32%(P<0.001)and 44%(P<0.001)at a doses of 10,25,50 and 100g/mL,*** results were compared with ascorbic acid used as standard synthetic *** analysis shows that the extract contains 4 major phenolics and is especially rich in rosmarinic *** finding indicates that the phenolic extract might be beneficial in lowering hyperlipidemia and preventing atherosclerosis.

Superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SSCD) is a rare entity recently described whose typical clinical symptomatology is represented by dizziness triggered by a variation of pressure. We reported a case of SSCD which was diagnosed thanks to computed tomography (CT) scan of the petrous bone conducted systematically in front of mixed deafness with normal eardrum. The SSCD was bilateral and was revealed by mixed deafness on the left side and perception deafness on the right with a normal eardrum without the notion of vertigo. The cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP) and an ultra-high resolution CT scan of the petrous bones in coronal and sagittal sections allowed the diagnosis. The SSCD should be considered in the presence of any conductive or mixed hearing loss with a normal eardrum. The CT scan in coronal and sagittal submillimetric sections allows the diagnosis.

Physicochemical properties of a new hybrid compound (C7H9N2O)3HSO4SO4 are synthesized in aqueous solution and characterized by various physicochemical studies. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c and a unit cell with a = 10.3028(2)A°, b = 12.4995(2)A°, c = 20.6730(2)A°, V = 2600.61(7)A°3, and Z = 8. The structure has been solved using direct method and refined to a reliability R factor of 4.6%. The atomic arrangement of this compound is built up by (HS2O8)3- anionic pairs interconnected with two types (C7H9N2O)22+ cationic pairs via (N, O)-H...O hydrogen bonds. The characterization of these salts was carried out using X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and thermal analysis.

Chemical preparation, X-ray single-crystal, thermal behavior, and IR spectroscopy investigations are given for a new organic cation dihydrogenomonophosphate (C7H9N2O)H2PO4 (denoted ABHP) in the solid state. This compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n. The unit cell dimensions are: a = 11.011(5) Å, b = 5.861(1) Å, c = 15.944(4) Å and β = 100.81(5) with V = 1010.7(6) Å3 and Z = 4. The structure has been solved using direct method and refined to a reliability R factor of 0.048. The atomic arrangement can be described as inorganic clusters [H4P2O8]2- anions between which are located the organic dimmers (C14H18N4O2)2+ through multiple hydrogen bonds (Figure 1)

Tea, one of the most popular consumed worldwide beverages, is known to be rich in polyphenols, more particularly in catechins. An amperometric biosensor based on tyrosinase was developed in order to monitor the phenolic content in black and green teas. The enzyme was immobilised by coreticulation with glutaraldehyde on carbon screen-printed electrodes (CSPE). Initially, the performances of the biosensor were evaluated referring to catechol as a model substrate. This analytical tool exhibits a high sensitivity (217 nA/μM), low limit of detection (LOD) = 0.03 μM, good intra-electrode and inter-electrode reproducibilities with RSD lower than 3% (n = 5 injections) and RSD = 8.14% (n = 12 sensors) respectively. The storage stability was also studied;the biosensor retained successively 85% and 70% of its initial response after 34 and 53 days. Subsequently, several catechin derivatives frequently found in teas were tested and classified relatively to their sensitivities. For tea samples, the results obtained with the biosensors were compared to high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. A good correlation between the two methods was obtained. The calculated recovery was between 90% and 96%, proving that the proposed tyrosinase biosensor can be an alternative analytical tool for global determination of catechin derivatives in tea.

2,2’-Bithiophene-5-carboxylic acid (BTA) thin-films on platinum (Pt) electrodes were electrochemically prepared in acetonitrile solution containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) and 0.05 M BTA. These films were complexes with several metal ions such as Cu2+, Ag+ and Co2+. Their structural characteristics were compared with those of powder complexes chemically prepared from BTA and the corresponding metal ion. IR and XPS techniques reveal that the film complexes with metal ions have the same structures as the corresponding powder complexes. The electrocatalytic activity of BTA film-metal ions has been investigated toward ascorbic acid (AA) oxidation and compared to that obtained on a free BTA film. BTA film-metal ions exhibit good catalytic proprieties and better detection of AA than a free BTA film. This new propriety allows these films to be used as electrochemical sensors.
