Zinc comple.e. of Schiff base.ligands e.hibit inte.e.ting prope.tie. which could be.e.ploite. for pote.tial applications as catalysts and mode.s for bioche.ical syste.0}(N’-(pyridine-3-carboxaldehyde) isonicotinoylhydrazone) zinc(II), which has been characterized by physico-chemical methods. The X-ray single crystal structure of the complex has also been determined. The Schiff base ligand is bonded to the metal in a monodentate manner, coordinating through the pyridine N-atom, as shown from spectral studies. The crystal structure shows the zinc atom bonded to two Schiff bases and four aqua ligands, with each Schiff base ligand coordinating through its pyridine N-atom forming a distorted octahedral ZnN2O4 complex. Two water molecules and two nitrate ions found in the crystal structure link the different monomers through hydrogen bonding to form a layered supramolecular structure.

Cobalt(II) Schiff base.comple.,?N’-(pyridine.4-carboxalde.yde. isonicotinoylhydrazone.Cobalt(II), has be.n synthe.ize. from isoniazid and pyridine.4-carboxalde.yde.and characte.ize. by IR spe.troscopy, 1H-NMR, e.e.e.tal analysis, TGA and single.crystal X-ray structure.de.e.mination. X-ray crystal structure.analysis shows an octahe.ral comple. with a me.al ce.tre.coordinate. to two ligand mole.ule. through the.pyridine.nitroge. atoms and four wate. mole.ule. and containing two nitrate.groups as counte. ions. The.comple. crystallize. in the.monoclinic crystal syste. and P2(1)/n space.group. The.unit ce.l dime.sions are. a = 7.2108(4) Å, b = 16.6020(9) Å, c = 13.0389(6) Å,α = 90°, β = 103.972(4)°, γ = 90°. The.mole.ule.is symme.rical about the.cobalt ce.tre.as obse.ve. from the.1H-NMR and 13C-NMR and confirme. by the.single.crystal X-ray structure.of the.comple.. The.mogravime.ric analysis shows two ste.s de.omposition of the.comple. to le.ve.a me.al oxide.re.idue. Schiff base.ligand, N-(2-pyridylme.hyl)-(L)-alanine.(L) and NH4SCN and characte.ize. by e.e.e.tal analysis, IR, UV-visible. TGA and single. crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural and spe.troscopic analyse. re.e.l [Co(L)2)]SCN to be.monome.ic with Cobalt(III) adopting a pse.do-octahe.ral ge.me.ry, coordinating to two re.uce.Schiff base.ligands. 16S rDNA PCR and se.ue.cing are.powe.ful tools for bacte.ial de.e.tion and ide.tification, although the.r routine.use.is not curre.tly wide.pre.d in the.fie.d of clinical microbiology. The.availability of pyrose.ue.cing now make. 16S rDNA assays more.acce.sible.to routine.diagnostic laboratorie., but this approach has had limite. e.aluation in ge.e.al diagnostic practice. In this study we.e.aluate. a re.l-time.16S rDNA PCR and pyrose.ue.cing assay for use.in a routine.microbiology laboratory, by re.rospe.tive.y te.ting joint fluid and joint tissue.spe.ime.s re.e.ve. for conve.tional culture. We.found that use.of the.re.l-time.16S rDNA assay was clinically valuable.in this spe.ime. type.be.ause.it e.able. us to ide.tify a small numbe. of culture.ne.ative.infe.tions. Although faste. and le.s labour-inte.sive. we.found that the.utility of pyrose.ue.cing for pathoge. ide.tification is still hampe.e. by shorte. re.d le.gths compare. to conve.tional (Sange.) se.ue.cing. Combining re.ults from both mole.ular and conve.tional culture.me.hods, bacte.ia we.e.only de.e.te. in 11.8% spe.ime.s in this study. Howe.e., the.de.e.tion rate.was incre.se. to 18.6% if spe.ime.s we.e.only include. from patie.ts with a docume.te. clinical suspicion of infe.tion. In conclusion, while.pyrose.ue.cing had significant advantage. in spe.d and e.se.of-use.ove. conve.tional se.ue.cing, multiple.re.ctions will be.re.uire. to de.ive. comparable.spe.ie.-le.e. ide.tification, thus ne.ating many of the.be.e.its of using the.te.hnique. We.found that 16S rDNA PCR and se.ue.cing should be.rationally targe.e. on the.basis of good clinical information in the.routine.diagnostic se.ting, and not use. as a ge.e.al scre.ning te.t for the.e.clusion of bacte.ial infe.tion in joint spe.ime.s.

In the.curre.t study, we.we.e.inte.e.te. in e.ploring the.attitude. of me.tal he.lth worke.s to using an e.e.tronic psychosocial asse.sme.t tool (e.tool) within face.to-face.se.vice.de.ive.y with adole.ce.ts and young adults. An e.ploratory de.ign was use. to ide.tify and qualitative.y de.cribe.the.vie.s of 46 me.tal he.lth worke.s from se.vice. across the.ACT and Victoria, Australia. Data we.e.code. using an inductive.the.atic approach. Comme.ts indicate. that me.tal he.lth worke.s he.d both positive.and ne.ative.vie.s about the.e.tool. Some.participants be.ie.e. that it would allow disclosure.to occur in a ste.pe. proce.s, normalize.que.tions, give.youth gre.te. input, and be.time.e.ficie.t. Howe.e., the.majority be.ie.e. that the.e.tool would infringe.on the.r work be.ause.the. ne.de. to re.pond to the.r clie.ts imme.iate.y, it would not provide.an accurate.re.re.e.tation of the.clie.t, young pe.ple.did not have.the.ne.e.sary capabilitie. to e.gage.in the.proce.s, the. would miss non-ve.bal cue. from the.young pe.son, and the. we.e.more.like.y to gain information from organic conve.sations.
