Using Crop Management Scenario Simulations to Evaluate the Sensitivity of the Ohio Phosphorus Risk Index

Phosphorus (P) risk indices are commonly used in the USA to estimate the field-scale risk of agricultural P runoff. Because the Ohio P Risk Index is increasingly being used to judge farmer performance, it is important to evaluate weighting/scoring of all P Index parameters to ensure Ohio farmers are credited for practices that reduce P runoff risk and not unduly penalized for things not demonstrably related to runoff risk. A sensitivity analysis provides information as to how sensitive the P Index score is to changes in inputs. The objectives were to determine 1) which inputs are most highly associated with P Index scores and 2) the relative impact of each input variable on resultant P Index scores. The current approach uses simulations across 6134 Ohio point locations and five crop management scenarios (CMSs), representing increasing soil disturbance. The CMSs range from all no-till, which is being promoted in Ohio, rotational tillage, which is a common practice in Ohio to full tillage to represent an extreme practice. Results showed that P Index scores were best explained by soil test P (31.9%) followed by connectivity to water (29.7%), soil erosion (13.4%), fertilizer application amount (11.3%), runoff class (9.5%), fertilizer application method (2.2%), and finally filter strip (2.0%). Ohio P Index simulations across CMSs one through five showed that >40% scored 45 points (very high). Given Ohio water quality problems, the Ohio P Index needs to be stricter. The current approach is useful for Ohio P Index evaluations and revision decisions by spatially illustrating the impact of potential changes regionally and state-wide.

Ultra-fast microwave aided synthesis of gold nanocages and structural maneuver studies

Gold nanocages （AuNcgs） are well-studied, hollow, metallic nanostructures that have fascinated researchers in the fields of nanotechnology, materials science, photoelectronics, biotechnology, and medical science for the last decade. However, the time-consuming synthesis of AuNcgs has limited their widespread use in materials science and nano-biotechnology. A novel, ultra-fast, simple, and highly convenient method for the production of AuNcgs using microwave heating is demonstrated herein. This quick method of AuNcg synthesis requires mild laboratory conditions for large-scale production of AuNcgs. The microwave heating technique offers the advantage of precise mechanical control over the temperature and heating power, even for the shortest reaction period （i.e., seconds）. Microwave-synthesized AuNcgs were compared with conventionally synthesized AuNcgs. Structural maneuver studies employing the conventionally produced AuNcgs revealed the formation of screw dislocations and a shift in the lattice plane. Detailed characterization of the microwave-generated AuNcgs was performed using high resolution transmission electron microscopy （HRTEM）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, X-ray powder diffraction （XRD）, and spectroscopic techniques.

Spatiotemporal binary interaction and designer quasi-particle condensates

We introduce a new integrable model to investigate the dynamics of two component quasi-particle condensates with spatiotemporal interaction strengths. We derive the associated Lax pair of the coupled Gross-Pitaevskii （GP） equation and construct matter wave solitons, We show that the spatiotemporal binary interaction strengths not only facilitate the stabilization of the condensates, but also enables one to fabricate condensates with desirable densities, geometries, and properties, leading to the so-called ＂designer quasi-particle condensates＂.

Nature and source of the ore-forming fluids associated with orogenic gold deposits in the Dharwar Craton

Neoarchean orogenic gold deposits, associated with the greenstone-granite milieus in the Dharwar Craton include(1) the famous Kolar mine and the world class Hutti deposit;(2) small mines at HiraBuddini, Uti, Ajjanahalli, and Guddadarangavanahalli;(3) prospects at Jonnagiri; and(4) old mining camps in the Gadag and Ramagiri-Penakacherla belts. The existing diametric views on the source of ore fluid for formation of these deposits include fluids exsolved from granitic melts and extracted by metamorphic devolatilization of the greenstone sequences. Lode gold mineralization occurs in structurally controlled higher order splays in variety of host rocks such as mafic/felsic greenstones, banded iron formations, volcaniclastic rocks and granitoids. Estimated metamorphic conditions of the greenstones vary from lower greenschist facies to mid-amphibolite facies and mineralizations in all the camps are associated with distinct hydrothermal alterations. Fluid inclusion microthermometric and Raman spectroscopic studies document low salinity aqueous-gaseous(H_2O + CO_2 ± CH_4 + NaCl) ore fluids,which precipitated gold and altered the host rocks in a narrow P-T window of 0.7-2.5 kbar and 215-320℃. While the calculated fluid O-and C-isotopic values are ambiguous, S-isotopic compositions of pyrite-precipitating fluid show distinct craton-scale uniformity in terms of its reduced nature and a suggested crustal sulfur *** ages on greenstone metamorphism, granitoid plutonism and mineralization in the Hutti Belt are tantamount, making a geochronology-based resolution of the existing debate on the metamorphic *** fluid source impossible. In contrast, tourmaline geochemistry suggests involvement of single fluid in formation of gold mineralization, primarily derived by metamorphic devolatilization of mafic greenstones and interlayered sedimentary rocks, with minor magmatic contributions. Size tuning and oxygen plasma induced pore formation on silica nanoparticles

Silica nanoparticles have been prepared from tetraethylorthosilicate dissolved in ethanol followed by base-catalyzed condensation. Earlier works reported that at least four parameters, namely concentration of tetraethylorthosilicate, ethanol, water and ammonia solution are needed to be optimized for the size tuning of silica nanoparticles. In this work size tuning of 5 nm-250 nm has been achieved by varying a single synthesis parameter i.e., the concentration of ammonia solution. Oxygen plasma was found to be successful for generating pores on silica nanoparticles without using any structure directing agents. The properties and morphology of nanoparticles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy.

The evolving dynamics of drug resistance due to tumor heterogeneity often creates impediments to traditional therapies making it a challenging issue for cancer *** cancer often faces challenges of current therapeutic interventions owing to its multiple complexities and high drug resistivity,for example against drugs like trastuzumab and *** resistance in the majority of breast cancer is often aided by the overtly expressed P-glycoprotein(P-gp)that guides in the rapid drug efflux of chemotherapy *** continuous endeavors and ground-breaking achievements in the pursuit of finding better cancer therapeutic avenues,drug resistance is still a menace to hold *** newer therapeutic approaches,the application of phytonutrients such as alkaloids to suppress P-gp activity in drug-resistant cancers has found an exciting niche in the arena of alternative cancer *** this work,we would like to present a black pepper alkaloid derivative known as Bio Perine-loaded chitosan(CS)-polyethylene glycol(PEG)coated polylactic acid(PLA)hybrid polymeric nanoparticle to improve the bioavailability of Bio Perine and its therapeutic efficacy in suppressing P-gp expression in MDA-MB 453 breast cancer cell *** findings revealed that the CS-PEG-Bio PerinePLA nanoparticles demonstrated a smooth spherical morphology with an average size of316 nm,with improved aqueous solubility,and provided sustained Bio Perine *** nanoparticles also enhanced in vitro cytotoxicity and downregulation of P-gp expression in MDA-MB 453 cells compared to the commercial inhibitor verapamil hydrochloride,thus promising a piece of exciting evidence for the development of Bio Perine based nano-drug delivery system in combination with traditional therapies as a crucial approach to tackling multi-drug resistance in cancers.

Synthetic[FeFe]-H_2ase models bearing phosphino thioether chelating ligands

A series of {2Fe3S} complexes bearing phosphino thioether chelating ligand were synthesized on the basis of Fe2（Me2pdt）（1,2-Cy2PC6H4SMe）（CO）4 （Me2pdt= Me2C（CH2S ）2, 1）. The disubstituted Fe（1）Fe（1） compound 1 exhibits a reversible one-electron redox even for [Fe（Ⅰ）Fe（Ⅱ）]＋/0 couple. Based on the oxidation of I to [1]＋, the tri-substituted [Fe（Ⅰ）Fe（Ⅱ）]＋ cationic complex [Fe2/Me2pdt）/1,2-Cy2PC6H4SMe）（PPh3）（CO）3]＋（[2]＋） was synthesized. Reduction of [2]＋ provided the neutral tri-substituted Fe（l）Fe（1） compound 2. The substitution of the CO in I ligand by PPh3 results in an anodic shift of the Fe11Fe＋/Fe1Fe1 couple of470 mV. Most importantly, this substitution also leads to the Fe-Fe bonds in 1 and 2 with large Lewis basicity difference, i.e. △pKaMeCN ～ 10.

The developments of multi-core systems(MCS)have considerably improved the existing technologies in thefield of computer *** MCS comprises several processors that are heterogeneous for resource capacities,working environments,topologies,and so *** existing multi-core technology unlocks additional research opportunities for energy minimization by the use of effective task *** the same time,the task scheduling process is yet to be explored in the multi-core *** paper presents a new hybrid genetic algorithm(GA)with a krill herd(KH)based energy-efficient scheduling techni-que for multi-core systems(GAKH-SMCS).The goal of the GAKH-SMCS tech-nique is to derive scheduling tasks in such a way to achieve faster completion time and minimum energy *** GAKH-SMCS model involves a multi-objectivefitness function using four parameters such as makespan,processor utilization,speedup,and energy consumption to schedule tasks *** performance of the GAKH-SMCS model has been validated against two datasets namely random dataset and benchmark *** experimental outcome ensured the effectiveness of the GAKH-SMCS model interms of makespan,pro-cessor utilization,speedup,and energy *** overall simulation results depicted that the presented GAKH-SMCS model achieves energy effi-ciency by optimal task scheduling process in MCS.

Efficient photon-pair generation in layer-poled lithium niobate nanophotonic waveguides

Integrated photon-pair sources are crucial for scalable photonic quantum ***-film lithium niobate is a promising platform for on-chip photon-pair generation through spontaneous parametric down-conversion(SPDC).However,the device implementation faces practical *** poled lithium niobate(PPLN),despite enabling flexible quasi-phase matching,suffers from poor fabrication reliability and device repeatability,while conventional modal phase matching(MPM)methods yield limited efficiencies due to inadequate mode ***,we introduce a layer-poled lithium niobate(LPLN)nanophotonic waveguide for efficient photon-pair *** leverages layer-wise polarity inversion through electrical poling to break spatial symmetry and significantly enhance nonlinear interactions for MPM,achieving a notable normalized second-harmonic generation(SHG)conversion efficiency of 4615%W^(−1)cm^(−2).Through a cascaded SHG and SPDC process,we demonstrate photon-pair generation with a normalized brightness of 3.1×10^(6)Hz nm^(−1)mW^(−2)in a 3.3 mm long LPLN waveguide,surpassing existing onchip sources under similar operating ***,our LPLN waveguides offer enhanced fabrication reliability and reduced sensitivity to geometric variations and temperature fluctuations compared to PPLN *** expect LPLN to become a promising solution for on-chip nonlinear wavelength conversion and non-classical light generation,with immediate applications in quantum communication,networking,and on-chip photonic quantum information processing.
