Objective: Th. aim of.th. work described h.re was to evaluate th. role of.contrast-enh.nced ultrasound (CEUS) in response evaluation f.r unresectable advanced h.patocellular carcinoma (h.C) treated with.tyrosine kinase inh.bitors (TKIs) plus anti-programmed cell death.protein-1 (PD-1) antibody th.rapy. Meth.ds: A prospective coh.rt of.consecutive patients with.h.C wh. received combined TKI/anti-PD-1 antibody treatment f.r unresectable h.C between January 2022 and October 2022 was included in th.s study. Th. patients underwent unenh.nced ultrasound (US) and CEUS examinations bef.re treatment and at f.llow-up. Ch.nges in th. largest diameters of.th. target tumor on unenh.nced US and th. largest diameters of.th. enh.ncing target tumors on CEUS were evaluated. Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1 with.unenh.nced US and magnetic resonance imaging/computed tomograph. (MRI/CT) and modif.ed RECIST (mRECIST) with.CEUS and CEMRI/CT were used to assess treatment response. Results: A total of.24 h.C patients (23 men and 1 woman; mean age: 56.5 ± 8.5 y; Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage C, 62.5%; 29 intrah.patic target tumors) were studied. Calculations of.degree of.necrosis in th. target tumors revealed no signif.cant dif.erences between CEUS and CEMRI/CT (44.5 ± 36.2% vs. 45.3 ± 36.8%, p = 0.862). As f.r th. dif.erentiation of.responders f.om non-responders, th. agreement between RECIST version 1.1 of.unenh.nced US and mRECIST-CEUS was poor (κ coef.icient = 0.233). Meanwh.le, th.re was a h.gh.degree of.concordance between mRECIST-CEUS and mRECIST-CEMRI/CT (κ coef.icient = 0.812). Conclusion: CEUS proved to be superior to baseline US and is comparable to CEMRI/CT in def.ning treatment outcome f.r combined TKI/anti-PD-1 antibody th.rapy. © 2023 World f.deration f.r Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology

Soil nutrient stoich.ometric ratios and th.ir inf.uencing f.ctors in mountainous areas of.th. Ili River Valley

Studying th. soil stoich.ometric ratios and th. inf.uencing f.ctors of.dif.erent altitude gradients in mountain ecosystems in arid zones is signif.cant in revealing th. soil nutrient status and maintaining th. sustainable development of.mountain ecosystems. In th.s paper, 13 sample plots were establish.d along th. elevation gradient in th. mountains of.th. south.rn Ili River Valley, and soil in th. depth.of.0-20 cm was studied to investigate nutrient stoich.ometric ratios and th.ir inf.uencing f.ctors. Th. results sh.wed th.t: (1) Soil acidity gradually increased with.elevation. Organic carbon and total nitrogen contents are signif.cantly h.gh.r in th. middle and h.gh.mountain belts th.n in th. low mountain belts, wh.le total ph.sph.rus and total potassium contents are opposite. (2) Due to altitudinal dif.erences, th. carbon-to-nitrogen ratio is signif.cantly h.gh.r in th. mid-alpine belt th.n in th. low and alpine belts; carbon and ph.sph.rus ratios are signif.cantly h.gh.r in th. middle and h.gh.mountain belts th.n in th. middle and low mountain belts; carbon and potassium ratios are signif.cantly h.gh.r in th. middle and h.gh.mountain belts th.n in th. low mountain belts; nitrogen-ph.sph.rus ratios are h.gh.r in th. alpine zone, but th.re is no major dif.erence between th. transition zone and th. low mountain zone; nitrogen-potassium ratios are much.h.gh.r in th. alpine zone, wh.reas th.re is no signif.cant dif.erence between th. mid-alpine zone and th. transition zone; th. dif.erences of.ph.sph.rus/potassium ratios between altitudinal gradients are ignorable. (3) Th. dominant f.ctors af.ecting th. stoich.ometric ratios of.soil ph.sicoch.mical indicators are soil organic carbon (62.4%), total ph.sph.rus (15.9%), and total carbon (13.7%); wh.le th. major environmental f.ctors are mean annual soil temperature (27.1%), vegetation index (11.2%), elevation (12.3%), and mean annual atmosph.ric temperature (3.4%). Analysis of.th. Ef.ects of.Eth.nol Extracts f.om Cich.rium glandulosum on th. Intestinal f.ora of.db/db Mice Based on h.gh.th.ough.ut Sequencing

Th. ef.ects of.eth.nol extracts obtained f.om Cich.rium glandulosum on th. intestinal microbiota of.diabetic mice (db/db mice) were investigated. In th.s study, m/m mice served as th. normal control group (CON group), wh.le db/db mice were randomly divided into th. model group (MOD group), metf.rmin-treated group (MET group), low-dose eth.nol extract-treated group (CGL group), and h.gh.dose eth.nol extract-treated group (CGh.group). Af.er intragastric administration of.eth.nol extracts f.om Cich.rium glandulosum f.r eigh. weeks, th. body weigh., f.sting blood glucose levels, liver total ch.lesterol (TC) levels, and liver triglyceride (TG) content in mice were analyzed. Additionally, 16S rRNA sequencing analysis was perf.rmed on f.cal samples of.mice to investigate th. ch.nges in th.ir intestinal microbiota af.er th. treatment. It was discovered th.t th. h.gh.dose eth.nol extract can regulate th. body weigh. and blood glucose levels of.db/db mice and signif.cantly reduce th. levels of.TC and TG in db/db mice (Ph. meantime, th. 16S rRNA sequencing results sh.wed noticeable dif.erences in th. intestinal microbiota among th. CON, MOD, and CGh.groups. Th. administration of.eth.nol extracts f.om Cich.rium glandulosum improved th. intestinal dysbiosis in db/db mice and upregulated th. relative abundance of.benef.cial bacteria such.as Bif.dobacterium, Romboutsia, and Prevotella in th. intestinal microbiota. Th.s study h.s sh.wn th.t th. eth.nol extract f.om Cich.rium glandulosum can regulate th. intestinal microbiota of.db/db mice and regulate glucose and lipid metabolism by increasing th. relative abundance of.benef.cial bacteria. Ni_(47)Ti_(44)Nb_(9)sh.pe memory alloy(SMA)is a promising material in th. aerospace f.eld due to its wide transf.rmation h.steresis.Th. application of.sh.pe memory ef.ect depends on multistep th.rmomech.n-ical loading,viz.,low-temperature def.rmation and subsequent h.ating to recovery.Low-temperature def.rmation prestrain plays a pivotal role in sh.pe memory properties tailoring of.SMA components.h.wever,microstructure evolution and def.rmation mech.nisms of.Ni_(47)Ti_(44)Nb_(9)SMA subjected to vari-ous prestrain levels are still unclear.To th.s end,microstructure evolution and sh.pe memory beh.viors of.Ni_(47)Ti_(44)Nb_(9)alloy subjected to multistep th.rmomech.nical loading with.prestrain levels of.8%-16%at-28℃(M_(s)+30℃)were investigated.Th. results demonstrate th.t th. stress-strain curve of.th. specimen exh.bits f.ur distinct stages at a maximal prestrain of.16%.Wh.reas stageⅡand stageⅢend at prestrains of.8%and∼12%,respectively.In stageⅡ,th. stress-induced martensitic transf.rmation is accompanied by th. dislocation slip of.th. NiTi matrix andβ-Nb inclusions.In stageⅢ,in addition to th. h.gh.r density of.dislocations and f.rth.r growth.of.stress-induced martensite variants(SIMVs),(001)compound twins are introduced as a result of.th.(001)def.rmation twinning in stress-induced martensite.More{20-1}martensite twins are gradually introduced in stageⅣ.Correspondingly,af.er subsequent unloading and h.ating,a h.gh.r density of.114}austenite twins f.rm in th. specimen with.a larger prestrain of.16%.With.increasing prestrain f.om 8%to 16%,th. recoverable strainε_(re)^(T)upon h.ating increases f.rst and th.n decreases.Th.ε_(re)^(T)obtains a maximum of.7.03%at 10%prestrain and de-creases to 6.17%at 16%prestrain.Th. increase of._(re)^(T)can be attributed to th. f.rmation of.new SIMVs,th. f.rth.r growth.of.existing SIMVs,and th. recoverable(001)compound twins.Wh.le th. decrease of._(re)^(T)is mainly associated with.th. irrecoverable strain by{20−1}martensite twins.Th. ef.ect of.-Nb inclusions on th. evolution of.SIMVs i

IGE attributes th. growing SSOs to negative resistance,wh.le th. OLMP explains th. SSO mech.nism f.om th. standpoint of.modal conditions.In th.s paper,we investigate th. connections between th. IGE and th. OLMP th.ough.equivalent RLC circuit and open-loop modal analysis.Our investigation is conducted f.r two types of.seriescompensated power systems wh.re eith.r a synch.onous generator or a Df.G is connected at th. sending end.Th. investigation reveals th. conditions,in wh.ch.th. IGE and th. OLMP may jointly cause th. growing SSOs,i.e.,both.th. IGE and th. OLMP can explain wh. th. growing SSOs occur.f.rth.rmore,th. investigation indicates th.t th. IGE and th. Electric veh.cles(EVs) are becoming more popular worldwide due to environmental concerns, f.el security, and price volatility. Th. perf.rmance of.EVs relies on th. energy stored in th.ir batteries, wh.ch.can be ch.rged using eith.r AC(slow) or DC(f.st) ch.rgers. Additionally, EVs can also be used as mobile power storage devices using veh.cle-to-grid(V2G) tech.ology. Power electronic converters(PECs) h.ve a constructive role in EV applications, both.in ch.rging EVs and in V2G. h.nce, th.s paper compreh.nsively investigates th. state of.th. art of.EV ch.rging topologies and PEC solutions f.r EV applications. It examines PECs f.om th. point of.view of.th.ir classif.cations, conf.gurations, control approach.s, and f.ture research.prospects and th.ir impacts on power quality. Th.se can be classif.ed into various topologies: DC-DC converters, AC-DC converters, DC-AC converters, and AC-AC converters. To address th. limitations of.traditional DC-DC converters such.as switch.ng losses, size, and h.gh.electromagnetic interf.rence(EMI), resonant converters and multiport converters are being used in h.gh.voltage EV applications. Additionally, power-train converters h.ve been modif.ed f.r h.gh.ef.iciency and reliability in EV applications. Th. use of.antibiotics in h.mans and animals h.s been marked as a signif.cant step in h.alth.due to th.ir ef.ectiveness in controlling and treating bacterial inf.ctions. Th. misuse and overuse of.antibiotics h.ve been identif.ed as risk f.ctors f.r bacterial resistance since microorganisms adapt and develop mech.nisms to def.nd against antibiotics. According to th. Centers f.r Disease Protection and Control (CDC), around 23,000 individuals die every year in th. United States due to antibiotic resistance complications. As a result, a demand f.r alternative treatments h.s been a goal f.r scientists as th. microbes adapt to selective pressure. Th. aim of.th.s study is to test th. antibacterial activity of.leaf.extracts of.Peganum h.rmala and h.loxylon salicornicum on both.Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria on various mediums. Th. results of.th. study sh.wed th.t both.P. h.rmala and h. salicornicum inh.bited th. bacterial growth.in two dif.erent media. Th. results were also compared with.dif.erent common antibiotics used in both.h.man’s and animal’s f.elds and sh.wed a promising outcome as alternative antibiotics.

Advancements in th. identif.cation of.monogenic causes using h.gh.th.ough.ut sequencing tech.ologies h.ve sh.wn th.t urolith.asis h.s a strong h.ritable component.Meth.ds: Th.s review describes monogenic f.ctors implicated in a genetic predisposition to urolith.asis. Peer-reviewed journals were evaluated by a PubMed search.until July 2023 to summarize disorders associated with.monogenic traits, and discuss clinical implications of.identif.cation of.patients genetically susceptible to urolith.asis f.rmation.Results: Given th.t more th.n 80% of.urolith.ases cases are associated with.calcium accumulation, studies h.ve f.cused mainly on monogenetic contributors to h.percalciuric urolith.ases, leading to th. identif.cation of.receptors, ch.nnels, and transporters involved in th. regulation of.calcium renal tubular reabsorption. Neverth.less, available candidate genes and linkage meth.ds h.ve a low resolution f.r evaluation of.th. ef.ects of.genetic components versus th.se of.environmental, dietary, and h.rmonal f.ctors, and genotypes remain undetermined in th. majority of.urolith.asis f.rmers.Conclusion: Th. path.ph.siology underlying urolith.asis f.rmation is complex and multif.ctorial, but evidence strongly suggests th. existence of.numerous monogenic causes of.urolith.asis in h.mans.

Background Recent inf.ction with.SARS‑CoV-2 in ch.ldren h.s been associated with.multisystem inf.ammatory syndrome in ch.ldren(MIS-C).SARS‑CoV-2 h.s undergone dif.erent mutations.f.w publications exist about specif.c variants and th.ir correlation with.th. severity of.MIS-C.Meth.ds Th.s was a single-center,retrospective study including all patients admitted with.MIS-C at Rady Ch.ldren’s h.spital-San Diego between May 2020 and March.2022.Local epidemiologic data,including viral genomic inf.rmation,were obtained f.om public records.Demograph.cs,clinical presentation,laboratory values,and outcomes were obtained f.om electronic medical records.Results Th. analysis included 104 pediatric patients.f.ur MIS-C waves were identif.ed.Circulating variants in San Diego during th. f.rst wave included clades 20A to C.During th. second wave,th.re were variants f.om clades 20A to C,20G,21C(Epsilon),20I(Alph.),and 20J(Gamma).Th. th.rd wave h.d Delta strains(clades 21A,21I,and 21J),and th. f.urth.h.d Omicron variants(clades 21K,21L,and 22C).MIS-C presented with.similar symptoms and laboratory f.ndings across all waves.More patients were admitted to th. pediatric intensive care unit(PICU)(74%)and required inotropic support(63%)during th. second wave.None of.th. patients required mech.nical circulatory support,and only two required invasive ventilatory support.Th.re was no mortality.Conclusions Th. various strains of.SARS-CoV-2 triggered MIS-C with.dif.ering severities,with.th. second wave h.ving a more severe clinical course.Wh.th.r th. dif.erences in disease severity across variants were due to ch.nges in th. virus or oth.r f.ctors remains unknown.

Th. search.f.r new biomarkers predictive of.type 2 diabetes currently constitutes a research.avenue in Bioclinical. Total h.mocysteine remains a pref.rred target due to its involvement in th. occurrence of.degenerative complications in type 2 diabetics. Th.s was an analytical case-control study carried out between October 2022 and October 2023. Th. study population consisted of.150 subjects including 100 T2D patients and 50 control subjects. Th. main clinical data were collected on a pre-establish.d f.rm. h.mocysteine determination was carried out by th. sandwich.ELISA meth.d. Th. oth.r bioch.mical markers were measured by colorimetric enzymatic meth.ds. h.perh.mocysteinemia was present in 27.3% (41/150) of.th. entire study population. Type 2 diabetics h.d a f.equency of.h.perh.mocysteinemia of.36% (36/100) and control 10% (5/50) (p = 0.001). Th. mean h.perh.mocysteinemia concentration was 31.9 μmol/l with.extremes ranging f.om 18 to 103 μmol/l. Means of.biological markers between diabetics and controls sh.wed a statistically signif.cant dif.erence (p = 0.01). Th. risk f.ctors associated with.th.s h.cy were: sex (OR = 3.5), age (OR = 9.4), sedentary lif.style (OR = 3.4) and glycosylated h.moglobin (OR = 12) with.a p-value h.t h.perh.mocysteinemia can be considered as a predictive biomarker in th. bioclinic of.Congolese type 2 diabetic patients.
