Numerous studies showed that synthetic fibers are effective for reinforcing the mechanical performance of the asphalt mixture due to their high strength properties,ductility,and durability *** this paper,the objective is to present a review of the reinforcement effect of synthetic fiber on the mechanical performance of the asphalt *** paper reviews the relevant literature on the characterizations and applications of synthetic fibers to improve different mechanical properties of asphalt mixes,which can provide a reference for the applications and development of synthetic fibers in asphalt *** characteristics of common synthetic fibers are introduced and the utilization of synthetic fibers in asphalt mixture is *** surface treatment methods for fiber are reviewed and it is found that surface treatment can improve the performance of the synthetic fibers in asphalt mixtures,especially the chemical surface treatment *** influence of synthetic fiber addition on the mechanical properties of the asphalt concrete such as rutting resistance,tensile strength,water stability performance,and cracking resistance are then *** research results show that aramid,glass,and polyester fibers improve the fatigue cracking resistance of asphalt *** fibers,polyamide fibers,and carbon fibers are used to improve resistance to the permanent deformation of asphalt pavement.

Comparison of linac-based fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy and tomotherapy treatment plans for intra-cranial tumors

This study compares and analyzes stereotactic radiotherapy using tomotherapy and linac-based fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy in the treatment of intra-cranial tumors,according to some *** this study,linac-based fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy and tomotherapy treatment were administered to five patients diagnosed with intra-cranial cancer in which the dose of 18–20 gy was applied on 3–5 separate *** tumor dosing was decided by evaluating the inhomogeneous index （II） and conformity index （CI）.Also,the radiation-sensitive tissue was evaluated using low dose factors V1,V2,V3,V4,V5,and V10,as well as the non-irradiation ratio volume （NIV）.The values of the II for each prescription dose in the linacbased non-coplanar radiotherapy plan and tomotherapy treatment plan were （0.125±0.113） and （0.090±0.180）,respectively,and the values of the CI were （0.899±0.149） and （0.917±0.114）,*** low dose areas,V1,V2,V3,V4,V5,and V10,in radiation-sensitive tissues in the linac-based non-coplanar radiotherapy plan fell into the ranges 0.3%–95.6%,0.1%–87.6%,0.1%–78.8%,38.8%–69.9%,26.6%–65.2%,and 4.2%–39.7%,respectively,and the tomotherapy treatment plan had ranges of 13.6%–100%,3.5%–100%,0.4%–94.9%,0.2%– 82.2%,0.1%–78.5%,and 0.3%–46.3%,*** the NIV for each organ,it is possible to obtain similar values except for the irradiation area of the brain *** percentages of NIV10%,NIV20%,and NIV30%for the brain stem in each patient were 15%–99.8%,33.4%–100%,and 39.8%–100%,respectively,in the fractionated stereotactic treatment plan and 44.2%–96.5%,77.7%–99.8%,and 87.8%–100%,respectively,in the tomotherapy treatment *** order to achieve higher-quality treatment of intra-cranial tumors,treatment plans should be tailored according to the isodose target volume,inhomogeneous index,conformity index,position of the tumor upon fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery,and radiation dosage for radiation-sensitive tissues.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy for isolated paraaortic lymph node recurrence from colorectal cancer

AIM： To evaluate the efficacy and complications of stereotactic body radiotherapy in localized paraaortic lymph node recurrence from colorectal cancer. METHODS： From 2003 to 2009, 7 patients with paraaortic lymph node recurrence （1-3 lesions） from colorectal cancer were treated with stereotactic body radiotherapy. Total gross tumor volumes ranged from 4 to 40 mL. The doses were escalated from 36 gy/patient to 51 gy/patient and were delivered in 3 fractions. RESULTS： One and 3 year overall survival rates were 100% and 71.4%, respectively, and median survival was 37 mo. Grade IV intestinal obstruction was reported in 1 of 7 patients. This patient received 48 gy in 3 fractions with a maximum point dose to the intestine of 53 gy and V45gy = 3.6 mL. However, 6 patients received an intestinal maximum point dose of 〈 51 gy and V45gy of 〈 1 mL, and did not develop any severe complications. CONCLUSION： This pilot study suggests selected paraaortic lymph node recurrence （1-3 closed lesions） that failed to respond to chemotherapy can be potentially salvaged by stereotactic body radiotherapy.

Clinical outcomes of radiation therapy for early-stage gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma

Analysis of the Effect of Space Radiations on the Nematode, <i>Caenorhabditis elegans </i>, through the Simulated Space Radiation

In this study, we simulated space flight of the nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans, on the ground and examined how it is affected by space radiation and G-forces. We simulated G-forces during launch in a gravity acceleration laboratory device in order to identify and isolate the effects of the G-forces. Following this, we irradiated C. elegans with accelerated protons (MC-50 Cyclotron) and gamma rays (iR 222 machine) at the same physical dose. We calculated the expected radiation dose according to Reitz [1] and simulation programs (NASA AP8MIN [2], NASA AE8MAX [2], and CREAM86 [3]) for 1 month (dose rate: 6 × 10-3 gy;2.8 × 10-2 gy), 6 months (dose rate: 36 × 10-3 gy;16.8 × 10-2 gy), and 2 years (dose rate: 144 × 10-3 gy;67.2 × 10-2 gy) of space flight. There have been several trials that aimed to take C. elegans into orbit on US space shuttle missions including a mission on the shuttle Columbia. In this study, we simulated longer duration space flights and performed a whole-genome microarray analysis to observe phenotype variations whereas most such experiments were carried out during short duration space flights and focused on mutations and genotypic variations. We expect that the results of this study will be useful to predict the effects of long-term exposure of space radiation on living organisms.

CD24 expression predicts distant metastasis in extrahepatic bile duct cancer

AIM: To evaluate the prognostic significance of CD24 expression in patients undergoing adjuvant chemoradiotherapy for extrahepatic bile duct (EHBD) cancer. METHODS: Eighty-four patients with EHBD cancer who underwent curative resection followed by adjuvant chemoradiotherapy were enrolled in this study. Postoperative radiotherapy was delivered to the tumor bed and regional lymph nodes up to a median of 40 gy (range: 40-56 gy). All patients also received fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy for radiosensitization during radiotherapy. CD24 expression was assessed with immunohistochemical staining on tissue microarray. Clinicopathologic factors as well as CD24 expression were evaluated in multivariate analysis for clinical outcomes including loco-regional recurrence, distant metastasisfree and overall survival. RESULTS: CD24 was expressed in 36 patients (42.9%). CD24 expression was associated with distant metastasis, but not with loco-regional recurrence nor with overall survival. The 5-year distant metastasis-free survival rates were 55.1% and 29.0% in patients with negative and positive expression, respectively (P=0.0100). On multivariate analysis incorporating N stage, histologic differentiation and CD24 expression, N stage was the only significant factor predicting distant metastasis-free survival (P=0.0089), while CD24 expression had borderline significance (P=0.0733). In subgroup analysis, CD24 expression was significantly associated with 5-year distant metastasis-free survival in node-positive patients (38.4% with negative expression vs 0% with positive expression, P=0.0110), but not in nodenegative patients (62.0% with negative expression vs 64.0% with positive expression,P=0.8599). CONCLUSION: CD24 expression was a significant predictor of distant metastasis for patients undergoing curative resection followed by adjuvant chemoradiotherapy especially for node-positive EHBD cancer.

临床上应用超分割放射治疗疗效不一,为了了解超分割放射的生物学特点,本实验采用200μm直径HeLaS-3球体为模型,从生长、集落形成率和细胞周期变化（用流式细胞计）等方面比较单次放射,每日一次2 gy常规放射和两组超分割放射对人体肿瘤细胞的增殖和动力学的影响。结果:1,在相同总剂量条件下,超分割放射比常规放射和单次放射抑制球体生长作用小。2,球体受放射后由胰酶消化分散成单细胞,其集落形成率以超分割放射组为高。与第一结果相一致,提示在五天疗程中细胞有一定修复和再分布发生。3,细胞周期变化检测表明放射后都有G2+M期细胞比例增加,伴以G1和S期细胞比例减少。常规放射后G2+M期细胞比例较为恒定,而超分割放射后波动大。放射后RNA含量无明显变化。如采用较大直径内含乏氧细胞的球体为模型,在分割放射期间还可能有再充氧发生,实验结果可能和本实验差异较大。
