Objective: Genome-wide association studies have demonstrated that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are important risk factors for the development of prostate cancer (PCa). Preliminary studies have suggested that the incidence of PCa in Saudi males is low but is probably familial or genetically ***: To identify any possible association of SNP with PCa development in Saudi patients, we investigated a group of SNPs in Saudi PCa patients (n=85) and compared the outcomes to healthy normal controls (n=115) and nodular hyperplasia patients (n=120). DNA was extracted from paraffin-embedded formalin fixed tissue or whole blood from both patients’ groups and healthy control group. A total of thirteen SNPs were genotyped using TaqMan® minor groove binder polymerase chain reaction ***: The rs16901979A, s629242T and rs1447295A alleles were found at significantly higher frequency in PCa patients than controls (p< 0.05). The rs16901979 CA genotype was found at significantly greater frequency in PCa patients than in healthy controls (43% vs. 14%, odds ratio=4.6, p=0.0001) and benign hyperplasia group (43% vs. 25%, odds ratio=2.2, p=0.009).Conclusion: Our study has highlighted the association of rs16901979 SNP with PCa in Saudi males. Such findings have important implications in the PCa diagnosis and in screening unaffected family members of Saudi patients.

HER-2/neu over expression is associated with increased tumor aggressiveness, increased rates of recurrence, and increased mortality in node positive patients. It is amplified and/or over expressed in approximately 30% of female breast cancers. This study was to detect the relation between HER-2/neu over expression and steroid hormone receptor status. It was conducted at Cairo and Bani Suif university hospitals between February 2012 to February 2014. HER-2/neu over expression was found to be positive in thirteen patients (41%) out of the thirty two patients included in the study, more positive (52%) HER-2/neu was found among estrogen receptor (ER) positive patients, on the other hand, only 18% positive HER-2/neu was detected among ER negative patients. This difference was statistically significant (P < 0.03). The same outcome was with progesterone receptors (PR) and HER-2/neu with statistically significant difference also (P = 0.02). Conclusion: HER-2/neu over expression is strongly related to ER and PR, this was more evident in negative steroid receptors status. The failure of treatment in positive steroid receptors could be explained by HER-2/neu positivity.

Dermoid cysts are benign tumors originating from germ cells, which can form in various locations, including the nasal area in rare cases. They are of unknown exact etiology, but it is suggested that it is due to abnormal tissue migration during early embryonic development. Nasal dermoid cysts albeit rare, can present in various forms such as sinuses, fistulas, or intracranially extending tracts. They can be asymptomatic and incidentally discovered or present with a visible external mass or sinus that is either painful, infected or cosmetically concerning. If nasal dermoid cysts with an intra-nasal bone sinus tract are left untreated, they can lead to life-threatening complications. This report describes the case of a 6-year-old girl with a nasal dermoid cyst connected to a superficial punctum by an intra-nasal tract. She had undergone surgical excision of a nasal swelling previously diagnosed as a dermoid cyst. One year later, she returned to our clinic with a recurrence of the nasal swelling. Imaging tests revealed a nasal dermoid cyst with a tract extending to the nasal tip, without intracranial expansion. The cyst, along with the entire tract, was successfully removed surgically, and the postoperative follow-up indicated no complications. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of a dermoid cyst. This case underscores the significance of considering the dermoid tract in nasal cyst cases and the necessity of its complete removal to prevent recurrence.

Choanal atresia (CA) is a rare occlusion of the posterior choanae. Unilateral cases have been reported more than bilaterally, and it’s more often right-sided in those patients. According to the literature, mixed bony-membranous atresia is the most common type. There is a high incidence of craniofacial and visceral anomalies associated with congenital choanal atresia. Therefore, investigation for associated congenital anomalies is an important step before the surgery. We report 2 cases of incidental finding of unilateral choanal atresia in a 21- and 17-year-old with nasal discharge being the only complaint in the former and nasal obstruction with headache in the latter. The patients were then scheduled for day-surgery as a case of choanal atresia for transnasal, endoscopic repair and posterior septectomy. The patients were discharged home on the same day with the absence of restenosis or other complications.

Detection of oxidative stress and DNA damage in freshwater snail Lymnea leuteola exposed to profenofos

Extensive production and use of organophosphate pesticide in agriculture,has risen concerned about its ecotoxicity and risk assessment of insecticides,which are more ***,the present investigation was aimed to study the induction of oxidative stress and DNA damage by organophosphate insecticide profenofos(PFF)in freshwater snail Lymnea luteola(***).The median lethal value(96 h LC50)of PFF was estimated as 1.26 mg/L for *** in a semi-static system and on the basis of LC50 value three concentrations viz.,0.126(1/10 of LC50,Sublethal I),0.63(1/2 of LC50,Sublethal II)and 0.84 mg/L(2/3 of LC50,Sublethal III)were *** were exposed to above-mentioned concentrations of PFF along with solvent control(acetone)and negative control for 96 *** haemolymph was collected at 24 and 96 h of after *** heamolymph of PFF exposed snail,lipid peroxide,glutathione reduced glutathione S transferase and superoxide dismutase activities at the tested concentrations significantly differ from those in the *** genotoxicity induced in hemocytes of treated snails was measured by alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis *** data of this experiment demonstrated significantly enhancement of oxidative stress and DNA damage in the treated snails as compared to ***,we observed statistically significant correlations of ROS with DNA damage(%tail DNA)(R^(2)=0.9708)for 24 h and DNA damage(R^(2)=0.9665)for 96 *** of the current experiment can be useful in risk evaluation of PFF among aquatic *** study confirmed the use of comet assay for in vivo laboratory experiments using freshwater snail for selecting the toxic potential of industrial chemicals and environmental contaminants.

Local scour downstream of sluice gates in erosive beds is one of the main concerns of hydraulic engineers because it can cause considerable damage to *** researchers have conducted various studies to predict the maximum depth and length of scour holes and to develop new methods to control this *** the methods that have recently been examined,embedded buried plates are used to control the scour in the erosive *** this study,using a physical model,the effect of buried plates in erosive beds on the depth of scour downstream of a hydraulic jump was *** experiments were performed in which plates were buried at 50° and 90° angles at different distances from the apron in open channels with horizontal and reverse bed *** results of experiments in which the scour profiles were drawn in dimensionless forms show that the angle and position of the plates are important to controlling and reducing scour *** fact,by reducing the angle of buried plates,the maximum depth of scour is also ***,comparison of the results of a single buried plate and double buried plates shows that using two buried plates at the distances of 30 and 45 cm from the non-erodible bed is more effective in reducing the scour *** best distances of the buried plates with angles of 90° and 50° from the non-erodible bed are 45 cm and 30 cm,respectively,in the condition with a single buried plate.

In this work,in order to obtain deep clean gas oil,a novel organic–inorganic hybrid(n-C4H9)4N)7H5Si2W18Cd4O68@β-cyclodextrin(abbreviated as TBA-Si WCd@β-CD)composite was synthesized by supporting quaternary ammonium salt of sandwich-type polysilicotungstate onβ-cyclodextrin(TBA-SiWCd@β-CD)as an efficient catalyst for oxidative desulfurization(ODS)of gas *** successful composition of the materials explained by the formation of host–guest inclusion complex,which confirmed through FTIR,UV–vis,XRD,SEM,and EDX characterization *** results revealed that the levels of sulfur content and mercaptan compounds of gas oil lowered with 97%removal *** with the ODS treatment of gas oil,the TBA-Si WCd@β-CD composite showed an outstanding catalytic performance for the oxidation of dibenzothiophene(DBT)in the prepared model *** main factors that influence the desulfurization efficiency and the kinetic study of the ODS process were *** prepared heterogeneous catalyst was found to give remarkable reusability for five runs without a discernible decrease in its *** study suggested the potential application of the TBA-Si WCd@β-CD catalyst for removal of hazardous sulfur compounds from gas oil fuel.

A solubility model for Merocyanine-540 dye together with the interface’s electron transfer kinetics of MC-540/TiO2 has been investigated(Merocyanine 540-based dye has been used effectively in dye-sensitized solar cells).The highest absorption peaks were recorded at 489 nm and 493 nm in Water and Ethanol solvent,*** vacuum phase which yielded 495 nm(associated with a modest electron injection-free energy value(Ginj)of−2.34 eV for both Water and Ethanol solvents).The time-dependent density functional theory(TD-DFT)method approach has been applied in this ***,the electronic structure and simulated UV-Vis spectra of the dye in different solvents have been determined,and the alignment with the solar spectrum has been discussed to a certain *** energy level diagrams and electron density of the primary molecular orbitals are shown,and the major issues that have an impact on our new interface’s performance are *** is concluded that the proposed Solvation Model(SM)can improve the performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells.

Drug abuse by pregnant women is one of the significant problems for mothers and their *** study aimed to investigate the effects of maternal substance use disorder during pregnancy on neonatal developmental *** a case-control study,clinical records of 90 neonates diagnosed with neonatal abstinence syndrome who were admitted to NICU in one of four hospitals affiliated with Shahid-Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran,Iran between 2017 and 2020 were compared to 90 neonates without neonatal abstinence syndrome(control group).Demographic information and data for neonatal developmental characteristics and complications were extracted from the clinical records of this convenience *** for the type and method of maternal substance use during pregnancy were collected through a telephone call with *** data showed that the prevalence of drug addiction was 1.8%among pregnant women,and the most common drugs used by mothers were opium(n=45%,50%),amphetamine(n=30%,33%),and methadone(n=14%,16%).Neonates with abstinence syndrome had a higher prevalence of transient tachypnea of the newborn(TTN)(P=0.004),and a prevalence of being admitted to NICU(P=0.05)and for a longer duration(Palization).Therefore,planning for the development of health policies to raise awareness among women and more broadly,all members of the community,is important to prevent the tendency to engage in this potentially high-risk behavior.
