Efficacy of oral magnesium therapy in the treatment of chronic constipation in spastic cerebral palsy children:a randomized controlled trial

Background Constipation is a common problem in children with spastic cerebral palsy(sCP)with a prevalence that reaches 75%.We hypothesized that treating constipation in those children will improve their health and shorten time spent in daily *** aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral magnesium sulfate for treating chronic constipation in children with *** A prospective,double-blinded randomized control trial was carried out involving 100 children aged 2-12 years with sCP(level Ⅲ-Ⅴ of the Gross Motor Functional Classification system)and chronic *** were followed up in the Pediatric neurology clinic,Children's hospital,Ain Shams University,May 2017-January *** intervention group(O-Mg)received oral magnesium sulfate 1 mL/kg/day daily for 1 month compared to the *** measures were constipation improvement and decrease in bowel evacuation time after 1 *** Initially,weekly bowel movements,constipation scores and stool consistency were comparable in both *** 1 month of regular administration of oral magnesium sulfate,the constipation score,stool frequency and consistency improved compared to the placebo group(Pally to 10(22%)cases after one month in the O-Mg group(P=0.001).In contrast,in the placebo group,the decrease went from 21(50%)cases initially to 18(42.9%)after 1 month and was not significant(P=0.5).Conclusions Oral magnesium sulfate seems effective in alleviating chronic constipation and pain experience in children with ***,saving maternal time spent in daily bowel evacuation attempts.

The effects of cold atmospheric-pressure plasma jet (CAPPJ) were investigated on germination and early seedling growth of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L) seeds. A two-electrode argon CAPPJ system with and without an additional grounded electrode [accelerating grounded (AG) electrode] was used at different exposure times. After 16 h of observation, the germination rates increased by 4 and 7 times, without and with using an AG electrode, respectively, for 1 min of plasma exposure. An increase in shoot fresh weight was observed, especially at 10 min exposure time. A high dry weight of root and shoot at 1 min-AG exposure time was observed. The root:shoot ratio was lower in plasma-treated seedlings, compared with the control plants. The study found that the O-radical emission line (777.4 nm) enhanced 5 times, due to the presence of an AG electrode, which increased the axial electric field and led to the formation of more streamers. The three stated effects (O-radicals, enhancement of the electric field and streamers) could be the cause for the stimulation of seed germination and seedling growth parameters when using the CAPPJ. The scanning electron microscope images showed the etching of the seed surface layers, which was more pronounced when an AG electrode was applied. The results of the current study indicate that the germination rates increased due to the increase of O-radical concentration and the etching of the seed surfaces.

In this study, new nano spherical graphene modified with LDH(Layered Double Hydroxide) was prepared and used to remove As(Ⅲ) ion from aqueous solutions. At first, graphene oxide was synthesized from graphite using a well-known Hammer method. The obtained graphene oxide solution was sprayed in octanol solution under different temperatures and sprayed speed as influenced variables. The structure and physical characterization of synthesized spherical graphene oxide were determined by various techniques,including FT-IR, N_(2) adsorption–desorption, SEM, TEM, and EDX. In the next step, the hydrothermal method was applied to deposition LDH on the spherical graphene oxide. The synthesized spherical graphene modified by LDH was used to remove As(Ⅲ) as a toxic heavy metal ion. The effect of influenced variables including p H, contact time, amount of sorbent, and type eluent studied and the optimum values were as 8, 30, 50, and HCl(0.5 mol·L^(-1)), respectively. After optimization, the studied sorbent was shown a high adsorption capacity(149.3 mg·g^(-1)). The adsorption mechanism and kinetic models exhibited good agreement with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order trends, respectively. Besides, the synthesized product was tested for seven times without significant loss in its sorption efficiency.

This paper elaborated the epidermis properties, transverse sections of leaves, petioles and stems of five cultivated spe-cies belong to five genera of Myrtaceae. They are Callistemon viminalis (Sol. ex Gaertn.) G. Don, Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh., Myrtus communis L., Psidium guajava L. and Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. It was clear that certain structural characteristics were of significant impor-tance in separation of these taxa, such as the presence of hypodermis in the leaves of P. guajava, the absence of stomata from the abaxial surface of leaves of C. viminalis and P. guajava, the isobilateral mesophyll in C. viminalis and E. camaldulensis leaves, the wavy transverse section of stem in C. viminalis, the presence of more than one vascular strand in S. aromaticum petioles as well as the presence of prismatic crystals in addition to the druses in the petioles of P. guajava.
