Impact of Ferritin Load on Gonadal Reserve among Regular Transfused β-Thalassemia

Background: Iron overload in association with persistent anemia is responsible for endocrine dysfunction in β-thalassemia patients, blood transfusion combined with iron-chelation can modify life quality in these children, but they tend to suffer from delayed maturity and endocrine dysfunction. Aim: This study aims to correlate degree of hypogonadism to ferritin load in regular transfused β-thalassemia patients. Methods: It was carried out on 30 β-thalassemia major (TM) patients aged 12 to 18 years, puberty was assessed clinically, blood picture on Cell-Dyne 2700, ferritin level and pattern of FSH, LH, testosterone and estradiol before and after gonadotropin (GnRH) analogue stimulation test, they were determined on ARCHITECT ABBOTT system. Results: Twenty patients had not yet achieved puberty, FSH level was 1.45 ± 1.88 mIU/ml before (GnRH) analogue and 3.78 ± 4.19 mIU/ml after 4 hours of injection. LH level was 1.91 ± 4.79 mIU/ml before (GnRH) test, while after 4 hours it was 6.52 ± 7.50 mIU/ml, 88.24% of males had low serum testosterone level, 84.6% of girls had low serum estradiol level, FSH, LH, estradiol, testosterone before and after GNRH analogue were statistically insignificant, mean ferritin level was 3344.32 ± 1142.142 ng/ml, with insignificant correlation to hormonal pattern before and after GnRH therapy. Conclusion: Iron overload and hypogonadism are the presenting data in this study, insignificant correlation between ferritin level and hormonal reserve pattern, there may be another etiology in pathophysiology of low gonadal reserve such as severe anemia, chronic disease and may be genetic predisposition underlying susceptibility to iron toxicity, which need further investigations.

Auto Opening Door and Car Identification

Design an Automatic Door System using a unique wireless ID by using infrared ray or Bluetooth technology. That consists of a sensing unit, control unit and drive unit to open and close doors at the entrance of a car that has the unique ID. This process is controlled by using Arduino Leonard programmed with IDE free open source software, that receives the signal code from the car which sends the ID through IR LED or Bluetooth by using a mobile application, decode it. And switch ON the driver that controls the DC motor. This system was designed considering some factors such as low cost and low power requirements, availability of components and low distance so there is no interference. The hardware design and software development are described, and all of the tests indicate that all component goes according to the initial design of this research.

Fine Structure Analysis of the Configuration System of V II. Part I: Even-Parity Levels

Using a linked-parameter technique of level-fitting calculations in a multi configuration basis, a parametric analysis of fine structure (fs) for even-parity levels of V II, involving six configurations, has been performed. This led us to exchange the assignments of two triplets, 3d3(2F)4s c 3F and 3d4 d 3F, reported in earlier analyses as being located at 30,300 cm-1 and 30,600 cm-1, respectively. This is confirmed by experimental hyperfine structure (hfs) A constants, used as fingerprints. Moreover, the current singlet 3d24s2 1D2 position is likely too high. The fs parameters, magnetic Landé g-factors, and the percentage of leading eigenvectors of levels are calculated. We present also predicted singlet, triplet and quintet positions for missing experimental levels up to 100,000 cm-1. The single-electron hfs parameters are determined in their entirety for 51V II for the model space (3d + 4s)4 with good accuracy. For the model space (3d + 4s)4 of 51V II the single-electron hfs parameters are computed;furthermore, our achieved theoretical evaluations of the single-electron hfs parameters, thanks to the use of ab initio calculations, reinforce the validity of these hfs parameter values, deduced from experimental data.

本试验以海南省未成熟的帝王香蕉为试验材料。主要研究了未熟香蕉分别在低温和MA储藏条件下的生理变化特性。通过生理特性的研究确定了最佳储藏温度为12±0.5℃。在最佳储藏温度下研究了不同厚度保鲜袋对香蕉储藏过程中生理变化的影响,确定最佳保鲜袋厚度。研究结果如下:1.香蕉属于呼吸跃变型果实,并且具有明显的呼吸峰。在低温和MA储藏条件下可以明显抑制呼吸释放量以及延迟呼吸高峰时间的到来。2.试验确定了最佳储藏温度为12±0.5℃,在此条件下,香蕉可以安全储藏,不会因低温而引发褐变。同时,在此温度下储藏,可以抑制未成熟香蕉的成熟和衰老,保持良好的外观,延长货架期。***方法在低温条件下对香蕉储藏有明显的抑制作用,主要表现在使未成熟香蕉果实硬度下降。在0.08mmPE保鲜袋中的香蕉果实硬度下降最慢。4.果实硬度下降与总可溶性固形物相关,同时也与SOD酶活性息息相关。PE保鲜袋抑制了SOD酶活性,提升了各项指标程度。因此,抑制了可溶性固形物含量的上升,并且保持果实有一个较高的硬度。***储藏可以延缓可溶性糖和可溶性固形物的含量上的上升。并且可以减少Vc和可滴定酸在低温MA储藏过程中的损失。***含量与果实硬度呈负相关,与总可溶性糖含量呈正相关。MDA和果实硬度与果实细胞结构完整度有相关性。

Fine Structure Analysis of the Configuration System of V II. Part II: Odd-Parity Levels

The 3d34p, 3d35p and 3d24s4p odd configurations of the V II spectrum have been reanalysed and three 3d24s4p triplets are assigned higher energies than previously proposed. We have determined the fine structure parameters, the largest and next largest eigenvector percentages of levels, their calculated Landé gJ-factors and predicted positions for missing experimental levels up to 100,000 cm-1 for the 3d24s4p configuration. Furthermore for the first time a hyperfine structure (HFS) parametric treatment, involving levels of these two configurations has been carried out. The deduced single-electron HFS parameter values are successfully checked with those obtained by means of ab initio calculations.

探讨了超声波解冻、微波解冻、空气解冻和静水解冻4种解冻方式对沙棘果实的汁液流失率、维生素C、可溶性糖、有机酸、沙棘果油和沙棘黄酮等品质指标的影响。结果表明,微波解冻的沙棘果实汁液流失率最低,仅为0.45%。微波解冻的沙棘果实VC保存率高达95%,可溶性糖和黄酮含量都处于较高水平;超声波解冻仅次于微波解冻效果。4种解冻方式对沙棘果油的影响差异不显著。综合分析,微波解冻能较好地保持沙棘果实品质。

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of brain and neck injuries in patients with maxillofacial fractures in teaching hospitals of the city of Rasht in 2016. This is an analytical retrospective study. Some 361 patients of the training centers of Rasht who had been diagnosed with maxillofacial fractures entered the study, 286 of which were male and 75 were female. Information was collected through questionnaires and patients’ records who admitted to Emergency Department of Poursina and Velayat Hospitals with maxillofacial fractures. The patients were examined to see whether they have brain and cervical spine injuries. The diagnosis of the fracture and brain and neck injuries had been separately written by the related doctors on the records of the patients based on clinical examination and Plain radiography and CT scans. After data collection, the results were analyzed. The results showed that 61 percent of the fractures were due to accidents. Among the most common spine damages, 77 percent were related to bone fractures. The highest frequency of brain damages was related to Extradural Hematoma by 23.65 percent. Results of the treatments also showed that 76% of the patients were partially recovered.

Hepatobiliary manifestations in children with inflammatory bowel disease:A single-center experience in a low/middle income country

BACKGROUNDThere has been a worldwide increase in the reported incidence of inflammatorybowel disease (IBD) in children over the past 2-3 decades. The hepatobiliary (HB)manifestations of IBD have been well-studied in children in industrialized anddeveloped countries but are infrequently reported in low- and middle-incomecountries (LMIC) such as *** determine the prevalence of the HB manifestations in a cohort of Egyptianchildren with *** cross-sectional observational study was carried out over a period of 6 mo(between June 2013 to December 2013, at the Paediatric Hepatology andGastroenterology Units of Cairo University Children's Hospital, which is thelargest paediatric tertiary care centre in the *** study included 48 patients with confirmed IBD based upon clinical,laboratory, endoscopic and histopathological features, 29 (60.4%) were ***-four patients (50%) had ulcerative colitis (UC), 11 (22.9%) had Crohn'sdisease (CD) and 13 (27.1%) had unclassified-IBD (IBD-U), which was formerlyknown as indeterminate colitis. The mean age of the patients at the time ofpresentation was 8.14 (± SD 4.02) years and the mean age at the time of studyenrolment was 10.16 (± SD 4.19) years. all patients were screened for HBmanifestations by physical examination, liver function tests, imaging and liver biopsy when indicated. HB disorders were confirmed in 13 patients (27.1%).Transaminases were elevated in 3 patients (6.3%). Two patients (4.2%) hadelevated biliary enzymes (one was diagnosed as primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC) and the other was diagnosed with PSC/autoimmune hepatitis overlapsyndrome and the third patient had hepatitis C virus infection. Market drugs,suchas Foodand Drug Administration(FDA)or European Medicines Agency(EMA)-approved drugs for specific indications provide opportunities for repurposing for newer *** potentially saves resources invested in clinical trials that verify drug safety and tolerance in humans prior to alternative indication *** arginine methyltransferase 5(PRMT5)overexpression has been linked to promoting the tumor phenotype in several cancers,including pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC),colorectal cancer(CRC),and breast cancer(BC),making PRMT5 an important target for cancer ***,we showed that PRMT5-mediated methylation of the nuclear factor(NF)-kB,partially contributes to its constitutive activation observed in *** this study,we utilized an alphaliSA-based high-throughput screening method adapted in our lab,and identified one FDA-approved drug,Candesartan cilexetil(Can,used in hypertension treatment)and one EMA-approved drug,Cloperastine hydrochloride(Clo,used in cough treatment)that had significant PRMT5-inhibitory activity,and their anti-tumor properties were validated using cancer phenotypic assays in ***,PRMT5 selective inhibition of methyltransferase activity was confirmed by reduction of both NF-kB methylation and its subsequent activation upon drug *** in silico prediction,we identified critical residues on PRMT5 targeted by these drugs that may interfere with its enzymatic ***,Clo and Can treatment have exhibited marked reduction in tumor growth in ***,we provide basis for pursuing repurposing Clo and Can as anti-PRMT5 cancer *** study offers potential safe and fast repurposing of previously unknown PRMT5 inhibitors into clinical practice.
