Anxiety-Behavior Modulated by Ventral Medial Prefrontal Cortex of Rats Submitted to the Vogel Conflict Test Involves a Local NMDA Receptor and Nitric Oxide

It was demonstrated in the Vogel conflict test (VCT) that the ventral portion of medial prefrontal cortex (vMPfC) of rats is involved with anxiety behavior. Moreover, the vMPfC local glutamatergic and nitrergic system interaction is involved in modulation of fear conditioning, a model of anxiety. To better understand the role of the MPfC-glutamatergic and nitrergic system on the VTC behavior response, male Wistar rats (250 g) were water deprived for 48 h before the VCT. After 24 h of water deprivation, they were subjected to an initial 3-min non-punished (pre-test) drinking session. Twenty-four hours later bilateral microinjections of NMDA-antagonist LY235959 (4 nmol/200 nL), the specific nNOS inhibitor N-Propyl-L-arginine (N-Propyl –0.08 nmol/200 nL), the NO scavenger Carboxi-PTIO (C-PTIO, 2 nmol/200 nL) or 200nL of vehicle were applied in the vMPfC. After 10 min, the animals were submitted to 3-min punished-licking session. LY235959 increased the number of punished licks. Similar to LY235959, both N-Propyl and C-PTIO also increased the number of punished licks. No changes were observed when LY235959, N-Propyl and C-PTIO were micro- injected into vMPfC surrounding structures such as the cingulate cortex area 1, the corpus callosum and the tenia tecta. In control experiments these drugs did not change neither the number of unpunished licks nor had any effect in the tail-flick test. The results show that NO signaling in the vMPfC can modulate anxiety-behavior in the VCT by control punished behavior. Moreover, this NO modulation could be associated with local glutamatergic activation through NMDA receptors.

Chitin powder and chitin-aerogel were prepared from shrimp wastes and used to uptake Y^(3+)from aqueous solutions and concentrate this rare earth element from phosphogypsum(PG).Chitin aerogel displays a specific surface area of 945 m^(2)/g,while chitin powder is 3.6 m^(2)/g,which largely influences its adsorption *** the adsorption in synthetic solutions,the effect of pH on Y^(3+)removal is strong for chitin powder *** contrast,no big pH influence was detected for chitin *** interactions and chelation can highlight the proposed mechanism of Y^(3+)on chitin adsorbents for the powder and ***,in addition to these interactions,pore filling/pore diffusion is the main mechanism of Y^(3+)removal in the chitin *** aerogel is efficient in concentrating 8 times the Y^(3+)from PG,a very complex *** complex chitin aerogel-Y^(3+)can be a secondary source of rare earth elements for other applications.

Co-administration of cyclosporine A alleviates thioacetamide-induced liver injury

AIM: To investigate the effects of cyclosporine A (CsA)on thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver ***: CsA was co-administrated (7.5 μg/kg body weight per day, i.p.) into rat to investigate the role of CsA on TAA-(200 mg/kg body weight per 3 d for 30 d, i.p.)induced liver ***: The data show that TAA caused liver fibrosis in rat after 30 d of treatment. CsA alleviates the morphological changes of TAA-induced fibrosis in rat liver. The blood glutamyl oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT)/glutamyl pyruvic transaminase (GPT) in the TAA-injury group is elevated compared to that of the normal rat. Compared with the TAA-injury group, the blood GOT/GPT and TGfβ1 (by RT-PCR analysis) are reduced in the CsA plus TAA-treated rat. The level of the transforming growth factor receptor I (TGfβ-R1) in the CsA plus TAA-treated group shows higher than that in the TAA only group, but shows a lower level of the fibroblast growth factor receptor 4 (fGfR4)in the CsA plus TAA-treated group, when using the Western blot analysis. After immunostaining of the frozen section,TGfβ-R1 and fGfR4 are more concentrated in rat liver after CsA plus TAA ***: This result suggests that CsA has an alleviated effect on TAA-induced liver injury by increasing the multidrug resistance P-glycoprotein and could be through the regulation of TGfβ-R1 and fGfR4.

The term glaucoma encompasses a spectrum of eye diseases pathologically characterized by an irreversible loss of retinal ganglion cells and their associated axons. Patients initially suffer from gaps in their visual field, the part of the visual range that can be perceived without eye movement. In the early stages of the disease, this damage can be compensated very well by eye movements. This, in turn, means that glaucoma is often not diagnosed until the disease is more advanced.

近期,体育视频分析中的广告牌商标的探测和识别方法已经广泛应用于许多其他领域,比如商业电视.基于此,提出了一种能在不同体育视频(如足球、篮球和f1赛车等)中进行广告牌商标实时识别的算法,该算法主要包括两个步骤,首先,利用基于模糊决策树的方法进行广告牌图像帧的探测;其次,利用颜色特征和局部SIfT(Scale-invariant feature transform)特征来描述不同商标的外观,并最终通过基于潜在语义分析(Latent semantic analysis,LSA)的SIfT词汇匹配来识别所给定的商标模板.初步的实验表明了本文算法的有效性,并且该算法能在实时情况下运行.
