Companies operating across borders face greater challenges in ensuring compliance with company strategy in different cultural contexts. Recent research shows the cognitive and emotional benefits of utilizing visual representations of knowledge in organizations. This study aims to test if mapping a corporate strategy visually can improve attitudes toward firm strategy and the intention to comply with it. An experiment is conducted comparing two knowledge maps to a textual version of the same company strategy. In order to measure attitudes toward the strategy, a scale was developed and tested in Europe and China. The study outcome provides a parsimonious and effective tripartite scale of attitude with cognitive, affective and behavioral components. The scale was then applied to a different sample to test the effect of mapping a company strategy visually on attitude toward the strategy, and to test if the effect is persistent in Europe and China. The results of the experiment show that subjects exposed to the visual conditions had significantly more positive affective and cognitive attitudes toward the content.

Neurotrophins are important for the development and maintenance of both high and low threshold mechanoreceptors(HTMRs and LTMRs).In this series of studies,the effects of constitutive overexpression of two different neurotrophins,neurotrophin-3(NT-3) and glial cell line derived neurotrohic factor(GDNF),were *** studies indicated that both of them may be implicated in the normal development of mouse dorsal root ganglion(DRG) *** from mice transgenically altered to overexpress NT-3 or GDNF(NT-3-OE or GDNF-OE mice) in the skin were examined using several physiological,immunohistochemi-cal and molecular *** vivo skin/nerve/DRG/spinal cord and skin/nerve preparations were used to determine the response characteristics of the cutaneous neurons;immunohistochemistry was used to examine the biochemical phenotype of DRG cells and the skin;RT-PCR was used to examine the levels of candidate ion channels in skin and DRG that may correlate with changes in physiological *** GDNF-OE mice,I-isolectin B4(IB4)-immunopositive C-HTMRs(nociceptors),a large percentage of which are sensitive to GDNF,had significantly lower mechanical thresholds than wildtype(WT) *** thresholds for the same cells were not *** sensitivity changes in GDNF-OE mice were correlated with significant increases in acid sensing ion channels 2a(ASIC2a) and 2b(ASIC2b) and transient receptor potential channel A1(TRPA1),all of which are putative mechanosensitive ion *** of NT-3 affected the responses of A-LTMRs and A-HTMRs,but had no effect on *** adapting type 1(SA1) LTMRs and A-HTMRs had increased mechanical sensitivity compared to *** sensitivity was correlated with significant increases in acid-sensing ion channels ASIC1 and *** data indicates that both neurotrophins play roles in determining mechanical thresholds of cutaneous HTMRs and LTMRs and that sensitivity changes involve the ASIC family of pu

An experimental investigation of the crystallographic,Raman and transport properties of the Ce_(1-x)(Nd_(0.74)Tm_(0.26))_xO_(2-x/2)(0.1≤x≤0.6) doped ceria system was performed with the aim of setting out correlations between structural features and ionic conductivity of the *** chosen composition ensures that the average size of the Nd^(3+) and Tm^(3+) doping ions coincides with the one of Sm^(3+);even so,the studied system presents larger cell parameters and a wider compositional extent of the CeO_(2)-based solid solution than Sm-doped ***,the occurrence of two different activation energies to ionic conduction below and above ~750 K determines the existence of two distinct conduction *** described experimental results agree with the formation below the threshold temperature of1 V_O2 Tm'_(Ce) trimers,which promote the incorporation of Nd'_(Ce) isolated defects into the CeO_(2)-based solid *** the high temperature range the dissociation of trimers induces the appearance of a lower activation energy;the extrapolation of its value at infinite dilution provides a result in good accordance with the expected binding energy of 1 V_ORE'_(Ce) dimers,pointing at their stability even in the high temperature conduction regime.

The air change rate(ACR)of naturally ventilated dairy buildings(NVDBs)plays an important part in the design and control of the ventilation system,as well as in the estimation of the gaseous emission *** objectives of this research were to model the ACR based on a quantitative investigation of the relationship between the ACR and its potential influencing factors,including the opening ratio(r),the building length to width ratio(a),the wind speed(U),and the wind direction(0).The investigations were performed using the response surface methodology integrated with the Box-Behnken design and Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD)*** response surface models of the ACR of NVDBs were established for three opening ratio ranges of 5%-42.5%,42.5%-80%,and 5%-80%,*** was found that the selection of the opening ratio range had almost no effect on the developed response surface *** results showed that the ACR of NVDBs was not influenced by a,but was significantly affected by r,U,6,and interaction effects between every two of the three *** highest ACR was 6.7 s^(-1),6.0 s^(-1),and 4.0 s^(-1)when 0,U,and r was at their respective medium value while the rest parameters were at the highest values,indicating that the r played an important role in the value of *** was concluded that in the prediction of the ACR of a building,the influences of both individual and interactional effects of 0,U,and r should be considered.

Isolations of onygenalean fungi were made recently from different dung samples from Italy.A striking snowwhite species with gymnothecial ascomata,developed in damp chamber on dormouse dung collected in a cave,was subjected to keratinolytic tests and morphological,cultural,and phylogenetic *** keratinolytic ability of this species,associated with a Chrysosporium anamorph and a sexual state of appendiculate reticuloperidia and oblate ascospores,allows it to be accomodated in *** ascomata,blunt or subcapitate peridial appendages,pitted ascospores,and tuberculate conidia suggest it to be a new Neogymnomyces,and this was confirmed by parsimony analyses of LSU and ITS nrDNA *** recent phylogenetic analyses,the morphological and physiological features of order Onygenales and its families are re-examined and *** the introduction of a new species,Neogymnomyces is reviewed and compared with all other genera in *** Chrysosporium imperfect state of Neogymnomyces virgineus is described and compared to the anamorph of *** is also compared to the atypical Chrysosporium merdarium and to several other Chrysosporium species with echinulate to verrucose-tuberculate conidia,isolated from guano,dung,and nitrogen-rich soils in *** onygenalean fungi isolated from any kind of dung are discussed and their facultative coprophily ascribed to variable faecal contents of keratin or other degradable substances.A key to the families and genera of the Onygenales is provided.

B cell development in bone marrow is a precisely regulated complex *** successive stages of differentiation,which are regulated by a multitude of signaling pathways and an array of lineage-specific transcription factors,the common lymphoid progenitors ultimately give rise to mature B *** to early thymocyte development in the thymus,early B cell development in bone marrow is critically dependent on IL-7 *** this IL-7-dependent stage of differentiation,several transcription factors,such as E2A,EBF1,and Pax5,among others,play indispensable roles in B lineage specification and *** recent studies have implicated several other transcription factors in B cell development,the role of NFATc1 in early B cell developmental stages is not ***,using multiple gene-manipulated mouse models and applying various experimental methods,we show that NFATc1 activity is vital for early B cell *** of NFATc1 activity in pro-B cells suppresses EBF1 expression,impairs immunoglobulin gene rearrangement,and thereby preBCR formation,resulting in defective B cell ***,deficiency in NFATc1 activity arrested the pro-B cell transition to the pre-B cell stage,leading to severe B cell *** findings suggest that,along with other transcription factors,NFATc1 is a critical component of the signaling mechanism that facilitates early B cell differentiation.

Reconsidering sex differences during place learning in tungara frogs

In tungara frogs, female mate choice requires remembering the location and/or calls of preferred males who advertise from fixed positions within a breeding pond. A previous study found that, when solving a place discrimination task in the laboratory, female tCingara frogs were able to learn a visual cue to solve the task, whereas males were not. In that task, male performance appeared to be inhibited, in part, by their attempt to use egocentric cues. We tested whether the sex difference in place learning previously reported would generalize to other training parameters with different cues available by eliminating the potential to use egocentric cues and increasing the number of trials per day. As before, frogs were given a choice between a red or yellow door, one of which led to shelters and return to their home cage. In the current testing conditions, we detected a preference for the red door;thus, we only considered frogs rewarded to the yellow door. Training was associated with an in crease in correct choices and an in creased preference for the yellow door. However, there was no evide nee for a sex d iff ere nee in learni ng. In summary, un der the curre nt training conditions, we fou nd that the appare nt female advantage in place learning was no Ion ger evide nt. Future studies that in vestigate sex d iff ere nces in cue pref ere nee and/or ability to switch among cues will further illuminate the conditions under which sex differences in learning are manifest in tungara frogs.
