To sustain plant growth,development,and crop yield,sucrose must be transported from leaves to distant parts of the plant,such as seeds and *** identify genes that regulate sucrose accumulation and transport in maize(Zea mays),we isolated carbo/iydrafe part/f/ofi/ngf defecf/Ve33(cpd33),a recessive mutant that accumulated excess starch and soluble sugars in mature *** cpd33 mutants also exhibited chlorosis in the leaf blades,greatly diminished plant growth,and reduced ***33 encodes a protein containing multiple C2 domains and transmembrane *** localization experiments showed the CPD33 protein localized to plasmodesmata(PD),the plasma membrane,and the endoplasmic *** also found that a loss-of-function mutant of the CPD33 homolog in Arabidopsis,QUIRKY,had a similar carbohydrate hyperaccumulation *** labeled sucrose transport assays showed that sucrose export was significantly lower in cpd33 mutant leaves relative to wild-type ***,PD transport in the adaxial-abaxial direction was unaffected in cpd33 mutant ***,transmission electron microscopy revealed fewer PD at the companion cell-sieve element interface in mutant phloem tissue,providing a possible explanation for the reduced sucrose export in mutant ***,our results suggest that CPD33 functions to promote symplastic transport into sieve elements.

Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus is a multifactorial autoimmune disease characterised by its clinical polymorphism and its course in flares. The aim of our study was to determine the effects of pregnancy on lupus and vice versa. Material and Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted over a period of 14 years from 2002 to 2015. We included cases of systemic lupus erythematosus associated with pregnancy followed at the obstetrics and gynecology department “C” of the Ibn Rochd University Hospital in Casablanca. Results: The mean age of our parturients was 31.4 years. All our patients were known to have lupus and were followed up. Pregnancy was terminated in six (20%) cases. We noted one (3%) case of intrauterine fetal death, four (13%) cases of intrauterine growth retardation, and five (16%) cases of prematurity. Lupus flare during pregnancy occurred in 16 (52%) cases, including one (3%) patient who developed superimposed pre-eclampsia, had a renal relapse in the third trimester requiring an abortion at 32 weeks of gestation with three sessions of hemodialysis, and another patient who developed eclampsia. Conclusion: A better understanding of the aggravating factors and compatible treatments has led to a more widespread authorization of pregnancy.

Synapsins serve as flagships among the presynaptic proteins due to their abundance on synaptic vesicles and contribution to synaptic communication. Several studies have emphasized the importance of this multi-gene family of neuron-specific phosphoproteins in maintaining brain physiology. In the recent times, increasing evidence has established the relevance of alterations in synapsins as a major determinant in many neurological disorders. Here,we give a comprehensive description of the diverse roles of the synapsin family and the underlying molecular mechanisms that contribute to several neurological *** physiologically important roles of synapsins associated with neurological disorders are just beginning to be understood. A detailed understanding of the diversified expression of synapsins may serve to strategize novel therapeutic approaches for these debilitating neurological disorders.

Upper-and Lower-tropospheric Circulation Anomalies Associated with Interannual Variation of Pakistan Rainfall during Summer

This study investigated the large-scale circulation anomalies,in both the upper and lower troposphere,associated with the interannual variation of rainfall in Pakistan during summer,using the station observation data in this country and circulation data of the NCEP−NCAR reanalysis from 1981 to *** showed that the upper-and lower-tropospheric circulation anomalies associated with monthly rainfall variability exhibit similar features from June to August,so analyses were performed on June−August circulation and Pakistan rainfall *** analyzed results indicated that summer rainfall in Pakistan is enhanced when there is an anticyclonic anomaly to the northwest of Pakistan in the upper troposphere and easterly anomalies along the southern foothills of the Himalayas in the lower troposphere,and vice *** upper-and lower-tropospheric circulation anomalies were found to be related,but show unique *** upper-tropospheric anticyclonic anomaly is closely related to the Silk Road Pattern along the Asian westerly jet,while the lower-tropospheric easterly anomalies are related to the cyclonic anomaly to the south of Pakistan,i.e.,intensified South Asian monsoon *** results presented here suggest that the interannual variability of summer rainfall in Pakistan is a combined result of upper-and lower-tropospheric circulation anomalies,and of extratropical and tropical circulation anomalies.

The role for serotonin(5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT)in controlling the pulmonary circulation was investigated following reports of an increased risk of primary pulmonary hypertension(PPH)in patients who used appetite suppressants that interact with 5-HT transport. In addition to its vasoactive effects, 5-HT exerts mitogenic and co-mitogenic effects on pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells(PA-SMCs), This effect is mediated through the serotonin transporter(5-HTT).

The effects of step inclination and air injection on the water flow in a stepped spillway:A numerical study

In this work, we perform a numerical study of a water flow over a stepped spillway. This flow is described by the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equation （RANS） associated with the turbulence k - model. These equations are solved using a commercial software based on the finite volume scheme and an unstructured mesh. The air-water flow was modeled using volume of fluid （VOF） and multiphasic methods. The characteristics of the profile, etc.. We analyze the effects on the flow structure of the flow were investigated including the total pressure, the velocity steps and countermarch inclination, the air injection through the countermarch into the water flow and the dynamics water discharges. Results show that the inclination of the countermarch relative to the vertical and the air injection into the water flow increase the total pressure in the neighbourhood of the steps.

Intrinsic photocatalytic water oxidation activity of Mn-doped ferroelectric BiFeO3

The development of stable and efficient visible light-absorbing oxide-based semiconductor photocatalysts is a desirable task for solar water splitting ***,we proposed that the low photocurrent density in film-based BiFeO_(3)(BFO)is due to charge recombination at the interface of the domain walls,which could be largely reduced in particulate photocatalyst *** demonstrate this hypothesis,in this work we synthesized particulate BFO and Mn-doped BiFeO_(3)(Mn-BFO)by the sol-gel *** water oxidation tests showed that pure BFO had an intrinsic photocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction(OER)activity of 70μmol h^(-1) g^(-1),while BFO-2,with an optimum amount of Mn doping(0.05%),showed an OER activity of 255μmol h^(-1) g^(-1) under visible light(λ≥420 nm)*** bandgap of Mn-doped BFO could be reduced from 2.1 to 1.36 eV by varying the amount of Mn *** functional theory(DFT)calculations suggested that surface Fe(rather than Mn)species serve as the active sites for water oxidation,because the overpotential for water oxidation on Fe species after Mn doping is 0.51 V,which is the lowest value measured for the different Fe and Mn species examined in this *** improved photocatalytic water oxidation activity of Mn-BFO is ascribed to the synergistic effect of the bandgap narrowing,which increases the absorption of visible light,reduces the activation energy of water oxidation,and inhibits the recombination of photogenerated *** work demonstrates that Mn doping is an effective strategy to enhance the intrinsic photocatalytic water oxidation activity of particulate ferroelectric BFO photocatalysts.

Background Several cell-based therapies for the adjunctive treatment of acute myocardial infarction(AMI)have been investigated in multiple clinical trials,but the benefits still remain *** meta-analysis aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of bone marrowderived stem cells(BMC)therapy in AMI patients,but also explores the effect of newer generations of stem *** A systematic literature review and meta-analysis was carried out following the PRISMA *** selected eligible studies from databases including Pub Med,EMBASE,the Cochrane Center Register of Controlled Trials,Medline,*** according to the predefined PICOS(population,intervention or treatment,comparison,outcome,and study design)criteria,and extracted information on study characteristics using structured forms.A randomeffects meta-analysis was performed on randomized controlled trials(RCT)investigating the effects of bone marrow stem cell therapy in patients with AMI that were published between January 2006 and December *** defined endpoints were all-cause mortality,major adverse cardiac events(MACE)rates,reinfarction,revascularization,left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF),left ventricular end-systolic and end-diastolic volumes(LVESV/LVEDV).Several subgroup analyses were also performed on bone marrow cell(BMC)*** Thirteen RCTS with a total of 1142 participants(591 cell therapy,551 controls)were eligible for inclusion in *** results of 13 RCTs,overall LVEF did not show any significant improvement(1.62%;95% CI,-0.12 to 3.36,P=0.07)in the BMC group as compared to controls,although it resulted in a reduction of LVESV(-4.92ml;95% CI,-7.13 to-2.71,P<0.0001).Moreover,BMC treatment was safe and did not lead to any significant increase in MACE rates following BMC infusion as compared to Control,after median follow-up duration of 6-12 months(RR 0.87;95% CI,0.67 to 1.12).Cell treatment was not associated with any changes in the risk of
