Prostate cancer is an androgen-dependent cancer with unique metabolic features compared to many other solid tumors,and typically does not exhibit the“Warburg effect”.during malignant transformation,an early metabolic switch diverts the dependence of normal prostate cells on aerobic glycolysis for the synthesis of and secretion of citrate towards a more energetically favorable metabolic phenotype,whereby citrate is actively oxidised for energy and biosynthetic processes(*** novo lipogenesis).It is now clear that lipid metabolism is one of the key androgen-regulated processes in prostate cells and alterations in lipid metabolism are a hallmark of prostate cancer,whereby increased de novo lipogenesis accompanied by overexpression of lipid metabolic genes are characteristic of primary and advanced *** recent advances in our understanding of altered lipid metabolism in prostate tumorigenesis and cancer progression,the intermediary metabolism of the normal prostate and its relationship to androgen signaling remains poorly *** this review,we discuss the fundamental metabolic relationships that are distinctive in normal versus malignant prostate tissues,and the role of androgens in the regulation of lipid metabolism at different stages of prostate tumorigenesis.

AIm： To study of the effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester （CAPE） on the initiation period in a medium-term assay of hepatocarcinogenesis. mETHOdS： male Wistar rats were subjected to a carcinogenic treatment （CT） and sacrificed at 25^th d; altered hepatic foci （AHF） were generated efficiently. To a second group of rats a single 20 mg/kg doses of CAPE was given 12 h before initiation with CT and were sacrificed at 25^th d. We evaluated the expression of preneoplastic markers as Y-glutamyltranspeptidase （GGT） and glutathione S-transferase type pi protein （GSTp） by histochemistry, RT-PCR and Western blot analyses, respectively. We measured thiobarbituric acid reactive substances （TBARS） in homogenates of liver and used Unscheduled dNA Synthesis （UdS） assay by incorporation of [^3H] thymidine （^3HdT） in primary hepatocyte cultures （PHC）. RESULTS： At 25^th d after CT CAPE reduced the observed increase of GGT^＋AHF by 84% and liver expression ofggt mRNA by 100%. In case of the GSTp protein, the level was reduced by 90%. As indicative of oxidative stress generated by diethylnitrosamine （dEN） 12 h after its administration, we detected a 68% increase of TBARS. When CAPE was administered before dEN, it completely protected from liver TBARS induction. To have an indication of the sole effect of CAPE on initiation, two carcinogens were tested in a UdS assay in PHC, we used methyl-n-nitrosoguanidine as a direct carcinogen and dEN, as indirect carcinogen. In this assay, genotoxic damage caused by carcinogens was abolished at 5μm CAPE concentration. CONCLUSION： Our results demonstrated that CAPE possesses anti-genotoxic and antineoplastic capabilities, by an anti-oxidative and free-radical scavenging mechanism.

Nanocrystalline supersaturated solid solutions (sa in Fe) with Sn content less than 50 at. %,and FeSn2 and Fe1.3Sn intermetallic compounds have been prepared by mechanical alloying of Fe and Sn mixture powders with composition of Fe1-xSnx (x≤0.5).The atomic alloying the formation and microstructure, especially the coordination environments, of the resultant alloys have been studied by X-ray diffraction, 57Fe and 119Sn mossbauer Spectroscopy and diffrrential scanning calorimetry. The Fe and Sn coordination environments and the composition dependence of the hyperfine parameters on the Fe and Sn content have been fully discussed with respect to the solid dissolution alloying, grain refinement, and distortion caused or induced by mechanical alloying.

Risk Factors for Surgical Site Infection after Hip Arthroplasty: A multicentric Study

The objective of this study is to answer three main questions: What is the risk of wound infection for patients undergoing hip arthroplasty? What are the main etiologicagents of surgical site infection (SSI)? What are the risk factors most associated with surgical site infection? method: This was a multicentric, retrospective cohort study which analyzed data collected in five general hospitals in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, between the period of January 2009 and december 2013. The continuous parameters studied were age, length of hospital stay before surgery, duration of surgery, number of professionals at surgery and number of hospital admissions. Categorical variables were surgical wound classification (clean, clean contaminated, contaminated, dirty/infected), American Society of Anesthesiologists (Asa) score (I, II, III, IV, V), type of surgery (elective, emergency), general anesthesia (yes, no), prophylactic antibiotic (yes, no), trauma surgery (yes, no) and Nosocomial Infections Surveillance (NNIS) risk index (IRIC = 0, 1, 2, 3). Results: Estimated SSI risk was 3.2% (95% C.I. = 2.6% to 4.1%) and risk of osteomyelitis was 0.6% (95% C.I. = 0.4% to 1.1%). Asa score > 2, general anesthesia, length of hospital stay before surgery higher than four days, more than two professionals at surgical field and duration of surgery higher than five hours were risk factors for SSI after hip prosthesis (p multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that the modified NNIS risk was independently associated with surgical site infection after arthroplasty of hip. Conclusion: despite the modified NNIS index being a risk factor for SSI, none of its independent variables was statistically significantly in the logistic model (p > 0.100). Each modified NNIS risk category increased the chance of a patient being infected by almost three times, when compared with the previous category (OR = 2.82;p = 0.011).

The tectonic evolution history of the South China Sea(SCS) is important for understanding the interaction between the Pacific Tectonic domain and the Tethyan Tectonic domain,as well as the regional tectonics and geodynamics during the multi-plate convergence in the *** Cenozoic basins formed in the northern margin of the SCS,which preserve the sedimentary tectonic records of the opening of the *** to the spatial non-uniformity among different basins,a systematic study on the various basins in the northern margin of the SCS constituting the Northern Cenozoic Basin Group(NCBG) is *** we present results from a detailed evaluation of the spatial-temporal migration of the boundary faults and primary unconformities to unravel the mechanism of formation of the *** NCBG is composed of the Beibu Gulf Basin(BBGB),Qiongdongnan Basin(QdNB),Pearl River mouth Basin(PRmB) and Taixinan Basin(TXNB).Based on seismic profiles and gravity-magnetic anomalies,we confirm that the NE-striking onshore boundary faults propagated into the northern margin of the *** the fault slip rate,fault combination and a comparison of the unconformities in different basins,we identify NE-striking rift composed of two-stage rifting events in the NCBG:an early-stage rifting(from the Paleocene to the Early Oligocene) and a late-stage rifting(from the Late Eocene to the beginning of the miocene).Spatially only the late-stage faults occurs in the western part of the NCBG(the BBGB,the QdNB and the western PRmB),but the early-stage rifting is distributed in the whole ***,the early-stage rifting can be subdivided into three phases which show an eastward migration,resulting in the same trend of the primary unconformities and peak faulting within the *** late-stage rifting is subdivided into two phases,which took place simultaneously in different *** first and second phase of the early-stage rifting is related to back-arc extension of the Pacific su

Computational models are developed to create grain structures using mathematical algorithms based on the chaos theory such as cellular automaton, geometrical models, fractals, and stochastic methods. Because of the chaotic nature of grain structures, some of the most popular routines are based on the monte Carlo method, statistical distributions, and random walk methods, which can be easily programmed and included in nested loops. Nevertheless, grain structures are not well defined as the results of computational errors and numerical incon- sistencies on mathematical methods. due to the finite definition of numbers or the numerical restrictions during the simulation of solidifica- tion, damaged images appear on the screen. These images must be repaired to obtain a good measurement of grain geometrical properties. Some mathematical algorithms were developed to repair, measure, and characterize grain structures obtained from cellular automata in the present work. An appropriate measurement of grain size and the corrected identification of interfaces and length are very important topics in materials science because they are the representation and validation of mathematical models with real samples. As a result, the developed al- gorithms are tested and proved to be appropriate and efficient to eliminate the errors and characterize the grain structures.
