The objective was to examine the effects of optimal leaf nitrogen levels>2.0%and suboptimal levels<2.0%,nitrogen nutrition on net photo synthetic rate,stem diameter increment,height growth increment and acorn mass of pedunculate oak during 2010 in the absence of drought stress and during 2011 under the impact of moderate drought *** to the results,moderate drought stress significantly reduced net photo synthetic rate,stem diameter increment and height growth increment,while acorn mass was not *** nitrogen nutrition significantly reduced the net photo synthetic rate and stem diameter increment only in the wet year,acorn mass in both wet and dry years,while height growth increment was not significantly reduced by suboptimal nitrogen nutrition in either *** results indicate that optimal nitrogen levels can stimulate photo synthetic rate and stem diameter increment of pedunculate oak only in the absence of moderate drought ***,the results show that moderate drought stress is a more dominant stressor for photosynthesis and growth of pedunculate oak than suboptimal nitrogen nutrition,while for acorn development,it is the more dominant stressor.

The facies distribution of a reservoir is one of the biggest concerns for geologists, geophysicists, reservoir modelers, and reservoir engineers due to its high importance in the setting of any reliable decisionmaking/optimization of field development planning. The approach for parameterizing the facies distribution as a random variable comes naturally through using the probability fields. Since the prior probability fields of facies come either from a seismic inversion or from other sources of geologic information, they are not conditioned to the data observed from the cores extracted from the wells. This paper presents a regularized element-free Galerkin(R-EFG) method for conditioning facies probability fields to facies observation. The conditioned probability fields respect all the conditions of the probability theory(i.e. all the values are between 0 and 1, and the sum of all fields is a uniform field of 1). This property achieves by an optimization procedure under equality and inequality constraints with the gradient projection method. The conditioned probability fields are further used as the input in the adaptive pluri-Gaussian simulation(APS) methodology and coupled with the ensemble smoother with multiple data assimilation(ES-MDA) for estimation and uncertainty quantification of the facies distribution. The history-matching of the facies models shows a good estimation and uncertainty quantification of facies distribution, a good data match and prediction capabilities.

Disaster Awareness and Preparedness Among Older Adults in Canada Regarding Floods, Wildfires, and Earthquakes

Older adults are significantly impacted by natural hazards and disasters that are exacerbated by climate change. Understanding their awareness and preparedness is essential for enhancing disaster resilience. This study investigated the attitudes, actions, and recommendations of older adults regarding natural hazards that pose risks in their geographic area—specifically floods, wildfires, and/or earthquakes in Canada. Methods for this study included survey and focus groups with older adults(n = 161 and n = 10, respectively) and other high-risk groups from across Canada, that are vulnerable to these natural hazards. The main findings from this study are that current awareness and preparedness among older adults is low, though stronger perceptions of risks are associated with risks specific to geographic locations where respondents live. Several barriers, such as hazard vulnerability misperceptions, cost-related reasons, and lack of hazard awareness have resulted in low awareness and preparedness among these populations. The two main recommendations arising from this research are:(1) improve awareness and preparedness with tailor-made emergency preparedness materials for older adults;and(2) adopt community-based approaches to disaster preparedness through existing community groups to strengthen social connections with a focus on locally specific hazards. The findings from this research can be applied to other hazards, including heatwaves and pandemics.

Various sectors of the industry are searching for new materials with specific requirements,providing improved *** study presents novel composite materials based on polylactide that have been modified with the organosilicon compound,(3-thiopropyl)polysilsesquioxane(SSQ-SH).The SSQ-SH compound is a mixture of cage structures and not fully condensed random *** composite materials were obtained through injection *** study includes a comprehensive characterization of the new materials that analyze their functional properties,such as rheology(MFR),mechanical strength(tensile strength,Charpy impact strength),and thermal *** microscopic photos were also taken to analyze the microstructure of the *** addition of a 5%by-weight organosilicon compound to polylactide resulted in a significant increase in MFR by 73.8%compared to the neat *** greatest improvement in impact strength was achieved for the 5%SSQ-SH/PLA composite,increasing it by 32.0 kJ/m^(2)compared to PLA,which represents an increase of up to 187%.The conducted research confirms the possibility of modifying the properties of the polymer by employing organosilicon compounds.

BACKGROUND In hepatology,the clinical use of endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)has experienced a notable increase in recent *** applications range from the diagnosis to the treatment of various liver ***,this systematic review summarizes the evidence for the diagnostic and therapeutic roles of EUS in liver *** To examine and summarize the current available evidence of the possible roles of the EUS in making a suitable diagnosis in liver diseases as well as the therapeutic accuracy and *** PubMed,Medline,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,and Google Scholar databases were extensively searched until October *** methodological quality of the eligible articles was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale or Cochrane Risk of Bias *** addition,statistical analyses were performed using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis *** Overall,45 articles on EUS were included(28 on diagnostic role and 17 on therapeutic role).Pooled analysis demonstrated that EUS diagnostic tests had an accuracy of 92.4%for focal liver lesions(FLL)and 96.6%for parenchymal liver ***-guided liver biopsies with either fine needle aspiration or fine needle biopsy had low complication rates when sampling FLL and parenchymal liver diseases(3.1%and 8.7%,respectively).Analysis of data from four studies showed that EUS-guided liver abscess had high clinical(90.7%)and technical success(90.7%)without significant ***,EUS-guided interventions for the treatment of gastric varices(GV)have high technical success(98%)and GV obliteration rate(84%)with few complications(15%)and rebleeding events(17%).CONCLUSION EUS in liver diseases is a promising technique with the potential to be considered a first-line therapeutic and diagnostic option in selected cases.

Detectors were developed for detecting irradiation in the short-wavelength ultraviolet(UVC)interval using high-quality single-crystallineα-Ga_(2)O_(3) films with Pt interdigital *** films ofα-Ga_(2)O_(3) were grown on planar sapphire substrates with c-plane orientation using halide vapor phase *** spectral dependencies of the photo to dark current ratio,responsivity,external quantum efficiency and detectivity of the structures were investigated in the wavelength interval of 200−370 *** maximum of photo to dark current ratio,responsivity,external quantum efficiency,and detectivity of the structures were 1.16×10^(4) ***.,30.6 A/W,1.65×10^(4)%,and 6.95×10^(15) Hz^(0.5)·cm/W at a wavelength of 230 nm and an applied voltage of 1 *** high values of photoelectric properties were due to the internal enhancement of the photoresponse associated with strong hole ***α-Ga_(2)O_(3) film-based UVC detectors can function in self-powered operation mode due to the built-in electric field at the Pt/α-Ga_(2)O_(3) *** a wavelength of 254 nm and zero applied voltage,the structures exhibit a responsivity of 0.13 mA/W and an external quantum efficiency of 6.2×10^(−2)%.The UVC detectors based on theα-Ga_(2)O_(3) films demonstrate high-speed performance with a rise time of 18 ms in self-powered mode.

Background: Understanding the role of species identity in interactions among individuals is crucial for assessing the productivity and stability of mixed forests over time. However, there is limited knowledge concerning the variation in competitive effect and response of different species along climatic gradients. In this study, we investigated the importance of climate, tree size, and competition on the growth of three tree species: spruce(Picea abies), fir(Abies alba), and beech(Fagus sylvatica), and examined their competitive response and effect along a climatic ***: We selected 39 plots distributed across the European mountains with records of the position and growth of 5,759 individuals. For each target species, models relating tree growth to tree size, climate and competition were proposed. Competition was modelled using a neighbourhood competition index that considered the effects of inter-and intraspecific competition on target trees. Competitive responses and effects were related to *** methods and information theory were used to select the best ***: Our findings revealed that competition had a greater impact on target species growth than tree size or climate. Climate did influence the competitive effects of neighbouring species, but it did not affect the target species? response to competition. The strength of competitive effects varied along the gradient, contingent on the identity of the interacting species. When the target species exhibited an intermediate competitive effect relative to neighbouring species, both higher inter-than intraspecific competitive effects and competition reduction occurred along the gradient. BACKGROUND Aseptic acetabular loosening can result from various factors that can be categorized into groups:patient-related,surgeon-related and *** present a case of a 63-year-old patient who at first underwent a total hip arthro-plasty(THA)using a metal-on-metal bearing due to hip ***-up visits revealed no complications after the *** years after the THA,acetabular component loosening occurred due to subsequent trauma of the opposite hip,necessitating a revision THA using a ceramic-on-ceramic *** SUMMARY We aim to illustrate a rare case where the primary reason for undergoing THA revision was not only incomplete bone graft incorporation but also improper limb load *** the revision arthroplasty,a 9-year follow-up visit revealed improvements in all evaluation measures on questionnaire compared to the state before surgery:Harris Hip Score(before surgery:15;after surgery:95),Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index(before surgery:96;after surgery:0),and Visual Analogue Scale(before surgery:10;after surgery:1).CONCLUSION Opposite-hip trauma caused a weight transfer to the limb after a THA *** process led to a stress shielding effect,resulting in acetabular component loosening.
