The characterization of electrical property of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on a nanometer scale is essential for their potential application in nano-electronic devices. The MWCNTs were synthesized on Fe2O3/SiO2/Si substrate and Pt plate substrate by simple thermal chemical vapor deposition (STCVD) technique and the electrical measurements of individual MWCNT grown on silicon substrate and Pt plate substrate were performed by home-made 'nano-manipulator', respectively. According to current-voltage curves obtained in the experiments the current density that the MWCNTs can carry is calculated to be about 107 A/cm2, which is much larger than that of normal metals.

The carbon nanotube (CNT) growth of iron oxide-deposited trench-patterns and the locally-ordered CNT arrays on silicon substrate were achieved by simple thermal chemical vapor deposition(STCVD) of ethanol vapor. The CNTs were uniformly synthesized with good selectivity on trench-patterned silicon substrates. This fabrication process is compatible with currently used semiconductor-processing technologies, and the carbon-nanotube fabrication process can be widely applied for the development of electronic devices using carbon-nanotube field emitters as cold cathodes and can revolutionize the area of field-emitting electronic devices. The site-selective growth of CNT from an iron oxide nanoparticle catalyst patterned were also achieved by drying-mediated self-assembly technique. The present method offers a simple and cost-effective method to grow carbon nanotubes with self-assembled patterns.

Amidine-bearing lipoplex targeting to hepatocyte cells

A lipoplex （i.e., pDNA#1/lipid complex and transfection reagent for pDNA delivery） containing galactosylceramide （GalCer） and an amidine-bearing lipid （TRX） was examined whether the bound pDNA was specifically ingested by hepatocyte via asialoglycoprotein receptor （ASGPR） and then expressed protein. Gel electrophoresis and small-angle X-ray scattering （SAXS） confirmed that the TRX-GalCer liposome#2 complexed with pDNA and the resultant lipoplex took a hexagonally packed inverted cylinder structure when the GalCer composition was less than 20 wt.% of the total lipid. When the lipoplex carrying pGL3 （luciferase-cording pDNA） was administrated to HepG2, the luciferase activity was increased with increasing the GalCer composition until it reached 3 wt.% and then decreased upon further addition of GalCer. When we added galactose itself as a competitor, the luciferase activity was decreased, while glucose did not show such decrease, suggesting that HepG2 ingested the lipoplex via ASGPR-mediated endocytosis. This paper indicated that the hexagonally packed inverted cylinder structures of lipoplex may not always provide excellent transfection and presented a possibility that the TRX lipoplex#3 can obtain a cellulartargeting ability through the receptors for oligosaccharide.

Evaluation of small bowel blood flow in healthy subjects receiving low-dose aspirin

AIM:To investigate the relationship between low-dose aspirin-induced small bowel mucosal damage and blood flow,and the effect of rebamipide. METHODS:Ten healthy volunteers were enrolled in this *** subjects were divided into two groups:a placebo group given low-dose aspirin plus placebo and a rebamipide group given low-dose aspirin plus rebamipide for a period of 14 *** endoscopy and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography were performed before and after administration of *** under the curves and peak value of time-intensity curve were calculated. RESULTS:Absolute differences in areas under the curves were-1102.5(95%CI:-1980.3 to-224.7,P=0.0194) in the placebo group and-152.7(95%CI:-1604.2 to 641.6,P=0.8172) in the rebamipide group. Peak values of time intensity curves were-148.0(95% CI:-269.4 to-26.2,P=0.0225) in the placebo group and 28.3(95%CI:-269.0 to 325.6,P=0.8343) in the rebamipide *** endoscopy showed mucosal breaks only in the placebo group. CONCLUSION:Short-term administration of low-dose aspirin is associated with small bowel injuries and blood flow.

Effect of vanadium and chromium on the microstructural features of V–Cr–Mn–Ni spheroidal carbide cast irons

The objective of this investigation is to study the influence of vanadium（5.0wt%–10.0wt%） and chromium（0–9.0wt%） on the microstructure and hardness of Cr-V-Mn-Ni white cast irons with spheroidal vanadium carbides. The alloys＇ microstructural features are presented and discussed with regard to the distribution of phase elements. The structural constituents of the alloys are spheroidal VC, proeutectoid cementite, ledeburite eutectic, rosette-shaped carbide eutectic（based on M7C3）, pearlite, martensite, and austenite. Their combinations and area fraction（AF） ratios are reported to be influenced by the alloys＇ chemical composition. Spheroidized VC particles are found to be sites for the nucleation of carbide eutectics. Cr and V are shown to substitute each other in the VC and M7C3 carbides, respectively. Chromium alloying leads to the formation of a eutectic（γ-Fe ＋ М7С3）, preventing the appearance of proeutectoid cementite in the structure. Vanadium and chromium are revealed to increase the total carbide fraction and the amount of austenite in the matrix. Cr is observed to play a key role in controlling the metallic matrix microstructure.

Multi Granularity Page Size Support for Linux and the Performance Evaluation

Today the PC class machines are quite popular for HPC area, especially on the problemsthat require the good cost/performance ratios. One of the drawback of these machines is the poormemory throughput performance. And one of the reasons of the poor performance is depend on the lack of the mapping capability of the TLB which is a buffer to accelerate the virtual memory access. In this report, I present that the mapping capability and the performance can be improved with the multi granularity TLB feature that some processors have. And I also present that the new TLB handling routine can be incorporated into the demand paging system of Linux.

A new approach to transfect NF-κB decoy oligodeoxynucleotides into the periodontal tissue using the ultrasound-microbubble method

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the ultrasound-microbubble technique in nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) decoy oligodeoxynucleotide(ODN) transfection in the gingival tissue in mice. The 6-FAM-labeled scrambled decoy ODN with microbubbles was applied to the periodontal tissue in 8-week-old male C57BL/6J mice by ultrasound radiation at low(LUM-Sc) and high(HUM-Sc) intensities to optimize the transfection condition of the ultrasound-microbubble *** inspections were performed two hours after transfection to compare the expression with that in the sham-operated group without ultrasound radiation(A-Sc). Then, an NF-κB decoy was transfected into the periodontal tissue using the highintensity ultrasound-microbubble(HUM-NF) technique to examine the anti-inflammatory effects of the decoy ODN. Western blot analysis was performed to investigate the expression of interleukin(IL)-1β, IL-6 and intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1)in the gingival tissues in the HUM-Sc, the HUM-NF and control groups. The fluorescence microscopy results showed that the fluorescent intensity in the periodontal tissues in the LUM-Sc and HUM-Sc groups was significantly higher than that in the A-Sc and the control groups. The fluorescent intensity in the HUM-Sc group, especially in the gingival connective tissue,was the highest of all groups. Western blot analysis indicated that the protein expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6 and ICAM-1 in the HUM-NF group were significantly lower than those in the HUM-Sc and the control groups. These findings suggest that the high-intensity ultrasound-microbubble technique is an effective tool for decoy transfection into the periodontal tissue.

AIM： To develop the effective technology for reconstruction of a liver organ in vitro using a bio-artificial liver. METHODS： We previously reported that a radial-flow bioreactor （RFB） could provide a three-dimensional highdensity culture system. We presently reconstructed the liver organoid using a functional human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line （FLC-5） as hepatocytes together with mouse immortalized sinusoidal endothelial cell （SEC） line M1 and mouse immortalized hepatic stellate cell （HSC） line A7 as non parenchymal cells in the RFB. Two × 10^7 FLC-5 cells were incubated in the RFB. After 5 d, 2 × 10^7 A7 cells were added in a similar manner followed by another addition of 10^7 M1 cells 5 d later. After three days of perfusion, some cellulose beads with the adherent cells were harvested. The last incubation period included perfusion with 200 nmol/L swinholide A for 2 h and then the remaining cellulose beads along with adherent cells were harvested from the RFB. The cell morphology was observed by transmission electron microscopy （TEM） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. To assess hepatocyte function, we compared mRNA expression for urea cycle enzymes as well as albumin synthesis by FLC-5 in monolayer cultures compared to those of single-type cultures and cocultures in the RFB. RESULTS： By transmission electron microscopy, FLC-5, M1, and A7 were arranged in relation to the perfusion side in a liver-like organization. Structures resembling bile canaliculi were seen between FCL-5 cells. Scanning electron microscopy demonstrated fenestrae on SEC surfaces. The number of vesiculo-vacuolar organelles （WO） and fenestrae increased when we introduced the actin-binding agent swinholide-A in the RFB for 2h. With respect to liver function, urea was found in the medium, and expression of mRNAs encoding arginosuccinate synthetase and arginase increased when the three cell types were cocultured in the RFB. However, albumin synthesis decreased. CONCLUSION： Co-culture

PRODUCTION OF TRANSFORMING GROWTH FACTOR-β BY CULTURED RAT MESANGIAL CELLS

The purpose of this study was to examine whether transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ acts as an autocrine cytokine in cultured mesangial cells. Measangial cell conditioned media (CM) were prepared and tested for their effect on mesangial cell proliferation. CM showed a concentration dependent inhibition on mesangial cell proliferation and the activity was enhanced by treating conditioned media with acid. Gel filtration analysis showed peak inhibitory activity to reside in fractions with an estimated molecular weight range of 16-30 KD. The activity was partially blocked by anti-TGFβ antibody, but not nonimmune control IgG. The presence of TGFβ was confirmed using the mink lung epithelial cell assay. Furthermore, the addition of anti-TGFβ antibody directly into culture media significantly enhanced mesangial cell proliferation. These results demonstrate that measangial cell produce both active and latent forms of TGFβ, which functions as an autocrine growth inhibitor for mesangial cells.

Eosinophilic enteritis requiring differentiation from chronic enteropathy associated with SLCO2A1 gene:A case report

BACKGROUND Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease(EGID)is a disorder characterized by infiltration of eosinophils causing mucosal damage and dysfunction of the gastrointestinal *** endoscopic findings of eosinophilic enteritis(EoN),an EGID variant,are nonspecific and occasionally difficult to *** contrast,chronic enteropathy associated with SLCO2A1(CEAS)is a chronic persistent small intestinal disorder characterized by endoscopic findings such as multiple oblique and circular *** SUMMARY We report the case of a 10-year-old boy who had suffered abdominal pain and fatigue for the preceding 6 *** was referred to our institute for investigation of suspected gastrointestinal bleeding because of severe anemia with hypoproteinemia and positive fecal human *** upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopic findings were normal;however,double-balloon small bowel endoscopy showed multiple oblique and circular ulcers with discrete margins and mild constriction of the intestinal lumen in the *** findings were highly consistent with CEAS,but urine prostaglandin metabolites were within normal limits,and no previously reported mutations in the SLCO2A1 gene were *** evaluation demonstrated moderate to severe eosinophilic infiltration localized to the small intestine suggesting a diagnosis of *** remission was maintained with montelukast and a partial elemental diet,but emergent surgery for bowel obstruction due to small intestinal stenosis was performed two years after the initial *** EoN should be considered in the differential diagnosis of CEAS-like small intestinal ulcerative lesions and normal urinary prostaglandin metabolite levels.
