Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) is becoming a popular procedure for the diagnosis and treatment of superficial mucosal lesions,and has the advantage of en bloc resection which yields a higher complete resection and remission rate compared to endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR).However,the learning process of this advanced endoscopic procedure requires a lengthy training period and considerable experience to be proficient.A well framed training protocol which is safe,effective,easily reproducible and cost-effective is desirable to teach *** addition,the training course may need to be tailored around settings such as ethnicity,culture,workload,and disease *** Asian countries with a large volume of early gastric lesions which need endoscopic treatment,endoscopists would be able to learn ESD expanding their skills from EMR to ESD under the supervision of ***,in Western countries due to the low incidence of superficial gastric tumors,trials have utilized simulator models to improve *** Korea,the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy(KSGE) is playing an important role in training many gastroenterologists who have shown an interest in performing ESD by providing an annual live demonstration and a nationwide tutoring *** purpose of this article is to introduce our ESD tutoring experience,review the published papers related to this topic,and propose several suggestions for future directions in teaching and learning ESD.

Geese have undergone significant changes in their distribution and population size due to human-induced *** improve our understanding of the two main geese populations in East Asia—Greater White-fronted(Anser albifrons;GWFG)and Bean Geese(Anser fabalis sensu lato;BEAG),which includes the Tundra ***(TDBG)and Taiga Bean Geese ***(TGBG),this study estimated their long-and short-term trends and the migration strategies based on their distribution during the migratory and wintering seasons,using nationwide census data collected over 24 years in South *** TRIM(TRends and Indices for Monitoring data)analysis supported a robust long-term population increase since 1999,recently stabilizing around 150,000 individuals in GWFG and 100,000 in TDBG,*** TGBG stabilized at around 7000 with no significant change of population over *** shorter-term trends within a season suggested that wintering populations of GWFG and TDBG in China might stop over in Korea in their autumn migration before their sea-crossing,evidenced by the large congregation near the Yellow Sea coast followed by a gradual *** contrast to autumn,there was no similar peak in spring migration,suggesting the potential for elliptical migration of some populations around the Yellow *** findings indicate a growing East Asian population and imply one of the migration strategies of the Greater White-fronted and Tundra Bean *** collaborating with recent tracking data,long-term monitoring efforts could offer more detailed insights into population trends and migration strategies,thereby contributing to the effective management and conservation of goose species in East Asia.

Recently,nanovaccine-based immunotherapy has been robustly investigated due to its potential in governing the immune response and generating long-term protective ***,the presentation of a tumor peptide-major histocompatibility complex to T lymphocytes is still a challenge that needs to be addressed for eliciting potent antitumor *** 1 conventional dendritic cell(cDC1)subset is of particular interest due to its pivotal contribution in the cross-presentation of exogenous antigens to CD8+T ***,the DC-derived nanovaccine(denoted as Si9GM)selectively targets cDC1s with marginal loss of premature antigen release for effective stimulator of interferon genes(STING)-mediated antigen *** marrow dendritic cell(BMDC)-derived membranes,conjugated to cDC1-specific antibody(αCLEC9A)and binding to tumor peptide(OVA257-264),are coated onto dendrimer-like polyethylenimine(PEI)-grafted silica *** molecular weight-cargos(αCLEC9A-OVA257-264 conjugates and 2′3′-cGAMP STING agonists)are loaded in hierarchical center-radial pores that enables lysosome escape for potent antigen-cross presentation and activates interferon type I,***,Si9GM vaccination leads to the upregulation of cytotoxic T cells,a reduction in tumor regulatory T cells(Tregs),M1/M2 macrophage polarization,and immune response that synergizes with αPD-1 immune checkpoint *** nanovaccine fulfills a dual role for both direct T cell activation as an artificial antigen-presenting cell and DC subset maturation,indicating its utility in clinical therapy and precision medicine.

Changes in microorganisms and metabolites during long-term fermentation of commercially manufactured anchovy sauce

This study was performed to investigate the changes in microbial communities and metabolites during the long-term fermentation of commercially manufactured anchovy sauce. Samples of commercial anchovy sauce were collected from large-scale fermentation tanks with fermentation periods of up to 7.87 years. The complex bacterial community was simplified to two genera， Tetragenococcus and Halanaerobium， after approximately 0.55 years of fermentation. Although genera， such as Saccharomyces， Cladosporium， Candida， and Aspergillus， were relatively dominant， no clear pattern was identified in fungal community analysis. The longitudinal metabolite profile demonstrated that approximately half (55.8%) of the metabolites present in anchovy sauce were produced within a year of fermentation due to rapid fermentation. Despite the static microbial community， the contents of several metabolites including amino acids and biogenic amines changed continuously during the long-term fermentation of anchovy sauce. This study provides novel insights into the changes in microbiota and metabolites in fish sauce produced without any starter inoculation.

Contemporary trends in radical prostatectomy and predictors of recovery of urinary continence in men aged over 70 years:comparisons between cohorts aged over 70 and less than 70 years

We evaluated contemporary trends in radical prostatectomy(RP)in men aged>70 years and investigated associations of selected variables with recovery of urinary continence(UC)in two age groups:>70 and70 years[n=610]vs70 years gradually increased up to 30.0%,and the rate of robot-assisted RP and neurovascular bundle(NVB)saving increased continually to 80.0%and 67.4%of older patients,*** the rate of recovery of UC within 12 months(3 months)in patients aged>70 years was lower than that in those aged S70 years(81.5%[52.6%]vs 88.6%[60.9%],respectively;both P70 ***,unlike younger patients,only variables(age and MUL),possibly associated with the inhere nt fun ction of the urinary sphi ncter,were predictors of recovery of UC in patients aged>70 years.

Aralia elata inhibits neurodegeneration by downregulating O-GlcNAcylation of NF-κB in diabetic mice

AIM： To investigate the role of O-GIcNAcylation of nuclear factor-kappa B （NF-KB） in retinal ganglion cell （RGC） death and analysedthe effect of Aralia elata （AE） on neurodegen- eration in diabetic mice. METHODS： C57BL/6mice with streptozotocin-induced diabetes were fed daily with AE extract or control （CTL） diet at the onset of diabetes mellitus （DM）. Two months af- tar injection of streptozotocin or saline, the degree of cell death and the expression of O-GIcNAc transferase （OGT）, N-acetyl-b-D-glucosaminidase （OGA）, O-GIcNAcylated pro- teins, and O-GIcNAcylation of NF-KB were examined. RESULTS： AE did not affect the metabolic status of diabetic mice. The decrease in the inner retinal thickness （P〈0.001 vs CTL, P〈0.01 vs DM） and increases in RGCs with terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labelling （P〈0.001 vs CTL, P〈0.0001 vs DM）, glial activation, and active caspase-3 （P〈0.0001 vs CTL, P〈0.0001 vs DM） were blocked in diabetic retinas of AE extract-fed mice. Expression levels of protein O-GIcNAcylation and OGT were increased in diabetic retinas （P〈0.0001 vs CTL）, and the level of O-GIcNAcylation of the NF-KB p65 subunit was higher in diabetic retinas than in controls （P〈0.0001 vs CTL）. AE extract downregulated O-GIcNAcylation of NF-KB and prevented neurodegeneration induced by hyperglycemia （P〈0.0001 vs DM）. CONCLUSION： O-GIcNAcylation of NF-KB is concerned in neuronal degeneration and that AE prevents diabetes-in- duced RGC apoptosis via downregulation of NF-KB O-GI- cNAcylation. Hence, O-GIcNAcylation may be a new object for the treatment of DR, and AE may have therapeutic pos- sibility to prevent diabetes-induced neurodegeneration.

Relationship between physicochemical characteristics of Korean wheat flour and quality attributes of steamed bread

The purpose of this study is to identify major factors affecting the manufacture and quality of steamed bread,consumed in Southeast Asia including China,Japan,and ***,flours of 11 Korean wheat cultivars were used to evaluate quality attributes of two different styles of steamed bread,Korean style steamed bread(KSSB)and northern-style Chinese steamed bread(NSCSB).KSSB prepared more ingredients and higher optimum water absorption of dough than NSCSB because Korean consumers prefer white and glossy surface and soft *** showed lower height,larger diameter and volume of steamed bread,higher stress relaxation,and softer texture of crumb than *** correlation between flour characteristics and quality of steamed bread was different in KSSB and *** 90%of variability in the height and volume of KSSB could be predicted from protein content,mixing tolerance of Mixograph,average particle size of flour,final viscosity and solvent retention *** content and quality parameters also could explain the variation of steamed bread height in *** wheat carrying Glu-A3c allele produced higher volume of steamed bread(704.7 mL)than Glu-A3d allele(645.8 mL)in KSSB,although there was no significant difference in volume of NSCSB by glutenin ***-D1d and Glu-A3c alleles had softer texture of crumb than Glu-D1f and Glu-A3d alleles in KSSB,Glu-B3i allele also showed lower hardness of crumb than their counterpart allele in *** wheat showed higher height and volume of steamed bread,and lower stress relaxation and hardness of crumb than soft wheat in KSSB.

Photoelectrochemical(PEC)H_(2)O_(2)production through water oxidation reaction(WOR)is a promising strategy,however,designing highly efficient and selective photoanode materials remains challenging due to competitive reaction ***,for highly enhanced PEC H_(2)O_(2)production,we present a conformal amorphous titanyl phosphate(a-TP)overlayer on nanoparticulate TiO_(2)surfaces,achieved via lysozyme-molded in-situ surface *** a-TP overlayer modulates surface adsorption energies for reaction intermediates,favoring WOR for H_(2)O_(2)production over the competing O_(2)evolution *** density functional theory calculations reveal that a-TP/TiO_(2)exhibits a substantial energy uphill for the O·*formation pathway,which disfavors O_(2)evolution but promotes H_(2)O_(2)***,the a-TP overlayer strengthens the built-in electric field,resulting in favorable ***,a-TP/TiO_(2)exhibits 3.7-fold higher Faraday efficiency(FE)of 63%at 1.76 V *** hydrogen electrode(RHE)under 1 sun illumination,compared to bare TiO_(2)(17%),representing the highest FE among TiO_(2)-based WOR H_(2)O_(2)production *** the a-TP overlayer constitutes a promising strategy for controlling reaction pathways and achieving efficient solar-to-chemical energy conversion.

Effect of Liquid Pig Manure and Chemical Fertilizers on Shoot Growth and Nitrogen Status of Young “Fuyu” Persimmon Trees

Liquid pig manure (LPM), digested from pig slurry, has been used as a nutrient source substituting chemical fertilizer (CF) for some crops. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of CF and LPM in early July on nitrogen (N) uptake of pot-grown young “Fuyu” persimmon (Diospyros kaki). The total N and potassium (K) from CF and LPM applied to a 3 L pot were 1.2 g N and 1.15 g K for the low and 2.4 g N and 2.3 g K for the high level. From 2 weeks after the applications, secondary shoots started to grow for the CF but none for the LPM. Two nutrient sources did not significantly affect the amount of N increase in different tree parts from July 1 to August 6. At the high level, tree total N increased by 80% from 551 mg for the CF and by 31% from 583 mg for the LPM. The nutrient sources did not affect soil pH. The soil that received LPM contained more organic matter (P = 0.048), available phosphorus (P) (P = 0.002), and exchangeable K+ (P = 0.001) and Mg2+ (P = 0.009) than the soil that received CF on August 6. These results indicated that N in LPM becomes available later but its effect is more durable than CF.
