Understanding how individuals.m.nage costs during the migration period is challenging because individuals are difficult to follow between sites; the advent of hybrid Global Positioning systemacceleration （ACC） tracking devices enables researchers to link spatial and temporal attributes of avian migration with behavior for the first time ever. We fitted these devices on male Greenland white-fronted geese Anser albifrons flavirostris wintering at 2 sites （Loch Ken, scotland and Wexford, Ireland） to understand whether birds.m.grating further during spring fed more on winter- ing and staging areas in advance of migration episodes. Although Irish birds flew significantly further （ca. 300 kin） than scottish birds during spring, their cumulative hours of migratory flight, flight speed during migration, and overall dynamic body ACC （i.e., a proxy for energy expenditure） were not significantly different. Further, Irish birds did not feed significantly more or expend significantly more energy in advance of migration episodes. These results suggest broad individual plasticity in this species, although scottish birds arriving on breeding areas in Greenland with greater energy stores （because they migrated less） may be better prepared for food scarcity, which might increase their reproductive success.

The perceptions of fishers towards the Arrábida marine Park,a marine protected area(mPA)in the west coast of Portugal,were studied through face-to-face interviews in two different moments of the mPA life ***'perceptions about the mPA and the impact it had on the fishing activity over time were identified just before the full implementation of the zoning and regulations of the management plan and 10 years *** study aimed to investigate fishers'knowledge,acceptance and perceptions about the mPA changed with time,if support for the mPA was linked to the impact of the mPA on the fishing activity,and if fishers'perceptions about the impact of the mPA on the fishing activity match with local landings *** show that although knowledge about the marine park significantly improved over time,fishers'acceptance did not.A decrease on fishers'support was not substantial but *** such as the disagreement with regulations reinforced concerns raised during the implementation of the marine park,particularly in relation to the top-down decision-making,which commonly confers.m.nor participation,recognition and legitimacy to ***,fisheries benefits were still not perceived by local fishers,though they are central for fishers'***,the perceived negative impacts of the park seemed to be more related to social aspects and individual interests than to impacts on *** adequate management,enforcement and participation of local fishers is still possible and are advocated here as to contribute to the expected socioecological outcomes and respective support,leading to the future successful performance of the Arrábida marine *** fishers’perceptions towards an mPA over time is central and should be included on periodical socioecological monitoring and inform an effective adaptive management.

The aims of this investigation were to study diffusion phenomenon in friction stir welding （FsW） joints and its influence on the tensile strength of joints. To study diffusion in stir zone, various.m.tallic foils were inserted between two pure aluminium plates. The thin foils of pure copper, pure zinc, brass and Cu-Zn-Ni alloy with the thickness of 250 μm were used as.m.tallic foils. The transversal cross sections of welds were observed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy （s.m. equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDs） system. The spot analyses near the metallic foils indicated that diffusion occurs from foils into the aluminium plates during welding; consequently, the strength of stir zone increases even by 50%. Besides, the metallic foils could reveal the flow of metal after FsW process.

The discrete element model （DEm） is a very promising modelling strategy for two-phase granular systems. However, owing to a lack of experimental measurements, validation of numerical s.m.lations of two-phase granular systems is still an important issue. In this study, a small two-dimensional gas- fluidized bed was s.m.lated using a discrete element model. The dimensions of the s.m.lated bed were 44mm × 10mm × 120 mm and the fluidized particles had a diameter dp = 1.2 mm and density ρp = 1000 kg/m^3. The comparison between DEm s.m.lations and experiments are performed on the basis of time-averaged voidage maps. The drag-law of Beetstra et al. [Beetstra, R., van der Hoef, m.A., ＆ Kuipers,J. A. m. （2007b）. Drag force of intermediate Reynolds number flow past mono- and bidispersed arrays of spheres. AIChE Journal, 53,489-501 ] seems to give the best results. The s.m.lations are fairly insensitive to the coefficient of restitution and the coefficient of friction as long as s.m. route of energy dissipation during particle-particle and particle-wall contact is provided. Changing the boundary condition of the gas phase at the side-walls from zero-slip to full-slip does not affect the s.m.lation results. Care is to be taken that the cell sizes are chosen so that a reasonable number of particles can be found in a fluid cell.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of pediatric Tuina(PT) in preventing recurrent acute respiratory tract infections(ARTIs) in children. mETHODs: This is a retrospective cohort study based on the electronic medical records of children with recurrent ARTIs in 2016. Children were divided into a PT group or a non-PT group, according to whether they had received PT or not in 2016. The primary outcome was the number of ARTI episodes in 2017 and 2018. The secondary outcomes were the number of ARTIs leading to outpatient department visits and outpatient antibiotic prescriptions due to ARTIs in the s.m. time period. Negative binomial regressions were used to detect the association between PT and the outcomes. REsULTs: A total of 2303 children were included in the analysis, including 94 in the PT group and 2209 in the non-PT group. Children who received PT six or more times in 2016 had fewer episodes of ARTIs in 2017 [incidence rate ratio(IRR): 0.59, 95% confidence interval(CI)(0.42-0.84)] and 2018 [IRR: 0.58, 95% CI(0.36-0.94)] and fewer outpatient department visits due to ARTIs in 2017 [IRR: 0.56, 95% CI(0.38-0.83)] than children who had not received PT in 2016. There was no significant difference in the number of outpatient antibiotic prescriptions between the two groups. CONCLUsIONs: Receiving PT six or more times within one year is associated with a decrease in recurrent ARTIs in children in the following two years. Randomized controlled trials are needed for effect evaluation prior to establishing PT as a method for preventing recurrent ARTIs among children.

New series of benzothiazole derivatives were designed and synthesized. The newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus. Compounds 6j and 6o showed the highest activity against E. coli and s. aureus. The antifungal activity of these compounds was also tested against Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus293. Compounds 4c, 4g and 6j exhibited the highest activity against C. albicans. In addition, compounds4 a and 6j displayed promising activity against A. fumigatus 293. The s.m. compounds were examined for their antiquorum-sensing activity against Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC 12472, whereas compounds4 a, 6j and 6p showed moderate activity. The in vitro cytotoxicity testing of the synthesized compounds was performed against cervical cancer（Hela） and kidney fibroblast cancer（COs-7） cell lines. Results indicated that all tested compounds have IC50 values 〉50 mmol/L against both cell lines. molecular properties, toxicities, drug-likeness, and drug score profiles of compounds 4a–c, 5a, 6g,h, 6j, 6l, 6o and7 c,d were also assessed.
