spinal cord injuries have profound detrimental effects on individuals, regardless of whether they are caused by trauma or non-traumatic events. The compromised regeneration of the spinal cord is primarily attributed to damaged neurons, inhibitory molecules, dysfunctional immune response, and glial scarring. Unfortunately, currently, there are no effective treatments available that can fully repair the spinal cord and improve functional outcomes. Nevertheless, numerous pre-clinical approaches have been studied for spinal cord injury recovery, including using biomaterials, cells, drugs, or technological-based strategies. Combinatorial treatments, which target various aspects of spinal cord injury pathophysiology, have been extensively tested in the last decade. These approaches aim to synergistically enhance repair processes by addressing various obstacles faced during spinal cord regeneration. Thus, this review intends to provide scientists and clinicians with an overview of pre-clinical combinatorial approaches that have been developed toward the solution of spinal cord regeneration as well as update the current knowledge about spinal cord injury pathophysiology with an emphasis on the current clinical management.

The age at which a woman enters natural menopause has also been associated to death from any cause. Menopause is a natural component of aging that happens between the ages of 45 and 55, with the average menopausal age being 51. Previous research has revealed the age at which women reach menopause, but there is no evidence to support the link between menopause and longevity. We made a study in assessing the limits of maximum lifespan at menopausal age in our previous article. In this paper, we aim to predict the maximum lifespan of women at mean menopausal age.

This paper proposes the generation scheduling approach for a microgrid comprised of conventional generators, wind energy generators, solar photovoltaie （PV） systems, battery storage, and electric vehicles. The electrical vehicles （EVs） play two different roles： as load demands during charging, and as storage units to supply energy to remaining load demands in the MG when they are plugged into the microgrid （MG）. Wind and solar PV powers are intermittent in nature; hence by including the battery storage and EVs, the MG becomes more stable. Here, the total cost objective is minimized considering the cost of conventional generators, wind generators, solar PV systems and EVs. The proposed optimal scheduling problem is solved using the hybrid differential evolution and harmony search （hybrid DE-Hs） algorithm including the wind energy generators and solar PV system along with the battery storage and EVs. Moreover, it requires the least investment.

In order to develop a novel method of visualizing possible Ca2＋ signaling during the early differentiation of hEsCs into cardi- omyocytes and avoid some of the inherent problems associated with using fluorescent reporters, we expressed the biolumines- cent Ca2＋ reporter, apo-aequorin, in HEs2 cells and then reconstituted active holo-aequorin by incubation withf-coelenterazine. The temporal nature of the Ca2＋ signals generated by the holo-f-aequorin-expressing HEs2 cells during the earliest stages of differentiation into cardiomyocytes was then investigated. Our data show that no endogenous Ca2＋ transients （generated by re- lease from intracellular stores） were detected in 1-12-day-old cardiospheres but transients were generated in cardiospheres following stimulation with KC1 or CaC12, indicating that holo-f-aequorin was functional in these cells. Furthermore, following the addition of exogenous ATP, an inositol trisphosphate receptor （IP3R） agonist, small Ca2＋transients were generated from day 1 onward. That ATP was inducing Ca2＋ release from functional IP3Rs was demonstrated by treatment with 2-APB, a known IP3R antagonist. In contrast, following treatment with caffeine, a ryanodine receptor （RyR） agonist, a minima/Ca2＋ response was observed at day 8 of differentiation only. Thus, our data indicate that unlike RyRs, IP3Rs are present and continually functional at these early stages of cardiomyocyte differentiation.

Flexible Zn-based batteries have attracted increasing research interest as essential components of wearable energy storage ***,the advancement of flexible aqueous Zn-based batteries based on Co-Ni layered double hydroxide （CoNi-lDH） as the cathode material is hampered by their poor cycling stability and the corrosiveness of alkaline ***,CoNi-lDH nanosheets enriched with H vacancies (CoNi-lDH（v）) were constructed on a flexible carbon cloth （CC） substrate via electrochemical deposition and *** Zn-based battery comprising CoNi-lDH（v）@CC as the cathode exhibited highly reversible conversion reactions and stable operation in 3 M ZnsO4electrolyte （pH=4）.The battery delivered an excellent specific capacity (225 mA h g-1,0.26 mA h cm-2),acceptable cycling stability（53.9%,900 cycles）,and high discharging *** abundant H vacancies served as active sites for the reversible intercalation of Zn2+and the extravasation of NO3-generated channels and space for Zn2+transport and storage,together enabling an excellent Zn2+storage ***,a sandwich-structured solid-state CoNi-lDH（v）@CC//Zn@CC battery was fabricated and was found to exhibit a noteworthy electrochemical performance and mechanical *** a proof of concept,the unencapsulated battery powered a digital watch under various deformation conditions and operated stably for 80 ***,the flexible battery displayed outstanding customizability,maintaining an open-circuit voltage of 1.42 V even after being cut *** proposed engineering strategy contributes to the realization of textiles with truly wearable energy-storage devices.

AIM： To explore mutations around the interferon sensitivity-determining region （IsDR） which are associated with the resistance of hepatitis C virus lb （HCV-lb） to interferon-α treatment. METHODs： Thirty-seven HCV-lb samples were obtained from Hong Kong patients who had completed the combined interferon-α/ribavirin treatment for more than one year with available response data. Nineteen of them were sustained virological responders, while 18 were non-responders. The amino acid sequences of the extended IsDR （eIsDR） covering 64 amino acids upstream and 67 amino acids downstream from the previously reported IsDR were analyzed. REsUlTs： One amino acid variation （I2268V, P = 0.023） was significantly correlated with treatment outcome in this pilot study with a limited number of patients, while two amino acid variations （R2260H, P = 0.05 and $2278T, P = 0.05） were weakly associated with treat- ment outcome. The extent of amino acid variations within the IsDR or eIsDR was not correlated with treat- ment outcome as previously reported. CONClUsION： Three amino acid mutations near but outside of IsDR may associate with interferon treatment resistance of HCV-lb patients in Hong Kong.
