Physiological differences in the growth and maturation of Eisenia bicyclis and Ecklonia cava gametophytes in Korea

The objective of this study was to examine the eff ects of temperature and light intensity on growth of female gametophytes of Eisenia bicyclis and Ecklonia cava and responses of these female gametophytes to Fe addition and daylength. Female gametophytes of each species.w.re cultured at four temperatures (10, 15, 20, and 25°C) and under a combination of four light intensities (10, 20, 40, and 80 μmol photons/(m^2 ·s)) with two temperatures (15 and 20°C for E i . bicyclis;20 and 25°C for E c . cava ) to clarify their optimal growth conditions. Growth and maturation of female gametophytes of these two species under a combination of five Fe-EDTA concentrations (0, 1, 2, 4, and 8 μmol/L) and three daylengths (10, 12, and 14 h) were also examined. The growth of E i . bicyclis gametophyte was maximal at approximately 15–20°C, 20 μmol photons/(m^2 ·s), Fe-EDTA concentration of 8 μmol/L and daylengths of 12–14 h. while E c . c ava gametophytes showed optimal growth at approximately 20–25°C, 20 μmol photons/(m^2 ·s), Fe- EDTA concentration of 8 μmol/L and daylength of 14 h. Maturation of gametophytes.w.s enhanced at Fe-EDTA concentration of 4 μmol/L for E i . bicyclis and at 2 μmol/L for E c . c ava . In conclusion, optimal growth temperatures and Fe-EDTA concentrations for maturation of E i . bicyclis and E c . c ava gametophytes.w.re diff erent. Higher optimal growth temperature for E c . c ava gametophytes may contribute to its.w.der geographical distribution compared to E i . bicyclis.w.ich has restricted habitats in Korea. This suggests that addition of Fe ion could be used to recover beds of these two species in barren grounds of Korea.

BACKGROUND Cerebrospinal fluid(CsF)leakage at C1/2 in spontaneous intracranial hypotension(sIH)is *** hematoma(sDH),a serious complication of sIH,may lead to neurological *** report presents a case of sDH after spontaneous C1/2 CsF leakage,which was treated with a targeted epidural blood patch(EBP).CAsE sUMMARY A 60-year-old man with no history of trauma was admitted to our hospital with orthostatic headache,nausea,and *** computed tomography imaging revealed bilateral,subacute to chronic *** magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)findings.w.re sDH with dural enhancement in the bilateral cerebral convexity and posterior fossa and mild sagging,suggesting *** the patient underwent burr hole trephination,the patient’s orthostatic headache was *** myelography led to a suspicion of CsF leakage at C1/***,we performed a targeted cervical EBP using an epidural catheter under fluoroscopic *** 5 d after EBP,a follow-up MR myelography revealed a decrease in the interval size of the CsF *** his symptoms improved,the patient still complained of headaches;therefore,we repeated the targeted cervical EBP 6 d after the initial ***,his headache had almost disappeared on the 8th day after the repeated *** Targeted EBP is an effective treatment for sDH in patients.w.th sIH due to CsF leakage at C1/2.

In quantitative susceptibility mapping(QsM),the background field removal is an essential data acquisition step because it has a significant effect on the restoration quality by generating a harmonic incompatibility in the measured local field *** though the sparsity based first generation harmonic incompatibility removal(1GHIRE)model has achieved the performance gain over the traditional approaches,the 1GHIRE model has to be further improved as there is a basis mismatch underlying in numerically solving Poisson’s equation for the background *** this paper,we propose the second generation harmonic incompatibility removal(2GHIRE)model to reduce a basis mismatch,inspired by the balanced approach in the tight frame based image *** results shows the superiority of the proposed 2GHIRE model both in the restoration qualities and the computational efficiency.

BACKGROUND Delayed inflammatory reactions(DIRs)in alloplast rhinoplasty are a rare complication that may occur several months to years after *** exact causes and mechanisms are unclear,but several triggering factors,including infections,trauma,dental procedures,and vaccination,have been *** sUMMARY A 39-year-old male patient who had undergone augmentation rhinoplasty 8 years ago had DIRs after the administration of the first dose of the mRNA Pfizer coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** suddenly had tender,erythematous swelling on his face 6 d after *** there was no improvement in the patient’s condition after the conservative treatment,surgical removal of an alloplastic nasal implant was *** after the surgery,the DIRs and accompanying symptoms ameliorated rapidly.A histological study conducted during surgery was fibrosis and small fragments of the hyaline *** The correlation between DIRs and COVID-19 vaccination has not been reported yet and the exact mechanism is *** the uncontrolled inflammatory reactions on the nose leave serious sequelae,surgeons should be conscious of the correlation between COVID-19 vaccines and DIRs associated with nasal alloplastic *** further histological or microbiological studies should be performed to determine the cause of DIRs.

study of the electric field and wall voltage in a high pressure ac-PDP cell by laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy

The electric field in a surface discharge type ac-PDP cell with He or He/Xe(0.1%) mixture has been measured over a wide range of pressure (5 50kP1 using laser induced fluorescence detection. The wall voltage was estimated from the measured electric field. The stark manifolds of triplet atomic helium Rydberg state (2s3s) with principal quantum numbers (n=8 and 9) have been used to measure the electric field, as the lifetime of 2s3s is longer than the single atomic helium Rydberg state (2s1s) in high pressure discharge. Comparison of the stark manifolds between the n=9 and n=8shows that the measurement accuracy of electric field can be increased by 10%. The maximum electric field strength during discharge and the wall voltage at the end of pulse decreases.w.th the increase of pressure. The comparison of He and He/Xe(0.1%) discharge at 13kPa showed that He/Xe gas mixture discharge can accumulate more wall charge on MgO surface and the electric field was somewhat higher than those of pure helium discharge during pulse off period under the same discharge conditions.

Retrieval of Outgoing Longwave Radiation from COMs Narrowband Infrared Imagery

Hourly outgoing longwave radiation （OLR） from the geostationary satellite Communication Oceanography Meteorological satellite （COMs） has been retrieved since June *** COMs OLR retrieval algorithms are based on regression analyses of radiative transfer simulations for spectral functions of COMs infrared *** study documents the accuracies of OLRs for future climate applications by making an intercomparison of four OLRs from one single-channel algorithm （OLR12.0 using the 12.0 μm channel） and three multiple-channel algorithms （OLR10.8＋12.0 using the 10.8 and 12.0 pm channels; OLR6.7＋10.8 using the 6.7 and 10.8 μm channels; and OLRAll using the 6.7,10.8,and 12.0 μm channels）.The COMs OLRs from these algorithms.w.re validated with direct measurements of OLR from a broadband radiometer of the Clouds and Earth＇s Radiant Energy system （CEREs） over the full COMs field of view [roughly （50°s-50°N,70°-170°E）] during April *** results show that the root-mean-square errors of COMs OLRs are 5-7 w m-2,which indicates good agreement with CEREs OLR over the vast ***6.7＋10.8 and OLRAll have much smaller errors （～ 6 w m-2） than OLR12.0 and OLR10.8＋12.0 （～ 8 w m-2）.Moreover,the small errors of OLR6.7＋10.8 and OLRAll are systematic and can be readily reduced through additional mean bias correction and/or radiance *** results indicate a noteworthy role of the 6.7 μm water vapor absorption channel in improving the accuracy of the *** dependence of the accuracy of COMs OLRs on various surface,atmospheric,and observational conditions is also discussed.

The influence of fabrication on the tensile and fatigue behavior of copper films manufactured by 3 kinds of fabrication methods.w.s investigated. The tensile and high cycle fatigue tests.w.re performed using the test machine developed by authors. Young＇s moduli （72, 71 and 69 GPa, respectively） are lower than the literature values （108-145 GPa）, while the yield strengths.w.re as high as 358, 350 and 346 MPa, respectively and the ultimate strengths as 462, 456 and 446 MPa, respectively. There is not much difference in the tensile properties of the 3 kinds of films. There is little difference in the fatigue properties of the 3 kinds of films but one of them has shorter fatigue life than others in high cycle region and longer fatigue life than others in low cycle region.

Cooperative effects at the interface of nanocrystalline metal-organic frameworks

Controlling the chemistry at the interface of nanocrystalline solids has been a challenge and an important goal to realize desired properties. Integrating two different types of materials has the potential to yield new functions resulting from cooperative effects between the two constituents. Metal-organic frameworks （MOFs） are unique in that they are constructed by linking inorganic units.w.th organic linkers.w.ere the building units can be varied nearly at will. This flexibility has made MOFs ideal materials for the design of functional entities at interfaces and hence allowing control of properties. This review highlights the strategies employed to access synergistic functionality at the interface of nanocrystalline MOFs （nMOFs） and inorganic nanocrystals （NCs）.

BACKGROUND Craniofacial necrotizing fasciitis(CNF)is an uncommon but fatal infection that can spread rapidly through the subfascial planes in the head and neck *** usually progress rapidly,and early management is necessary to optimize *** sUMMARY A 43-year-old man visited our hospital with left hemifacial swelling involving the buccal and submandibular *** patient had fever for approximately 10 d before visiting the hospital,but did not report any other systemic *** tomography scan demonstrated an abscess.w.th gas *** surgical drainage of the facial abscess,the patient’s systemic condition worsened and progressed to septic *** examination revealed pulmonary and renal *** percutaneous catheter drainage was performed at the renal abscess site,which caused improvement of *** patient showed no evidence of systemic complications during the 4-mo post-operative follow-up *** As the patient did not improve with conventional CNF treatment and symptoms only resolved after controlling the infection,the final diagnosis.w.s secondary CNF with septic *** surgical decompression is important for CNF ***,if symptoms.w.rsen despite early diagnosis and management,such as pus drainage and surgical intervention,clinicians should consider the possibility of a secondary abscess from internal organs.
