Intralenticular metallic foreign body: a case report

A case of retained intralenticular iron piece with signs of mild anterior uveitis at the time of presentation is reported in a 45 year-old man. His vision improved with topical cycloplegics and corticosteroids. After six months, his vision deteriorated grossly due to cataract formation. He regained good vision following removal of foreign body, extracapsular extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation. This case highlights the conservative management of the condition till the patient develops cataract resulting in visual disability; and good visual recovery following cataract surgery with intraocular lens implantation.

The present work reports the synthesis, characterization, photoluminescence and photocatalytic activity of Eu^(3+)(1 mol%-11 mol%) doped and Li^+(0.5 mol%-5 mol%) co-doped Bi_2 O_3 nanophosphors(NPs) by sonochemical method. The average particle size was estimated using powder X-ray diffraction(PXRD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and is found to be in the range of 30-35 nm. The scanning electron microscopy(sEM) images.w.re highly dependent on sonication time and concentration of epigallocatechin gallate(EGcG) bio-surfactant. The energy gap of doped and co-doped Bi_2 O_3 nanophosphors.w.s estimated using Kubelka-Munk(K-M) function and is found to be in the range of2.9-3.08 eV. The effect of Li+ co-doping on luminescence of optimized Bi_2 O_3:Eu^(3+) was studied and is found about more than 3 fold enhancement of emission intensity. Judd-Ofelt parameters(Ω_2, Ω_4 and Ω_6).transition probabilities(A_T), quantum efficiency(η), luminescence lifetime(τ_(rad)), color chromaticity coordinates(cIE) and correlated color temperature(ccT) values.w.re estimated from the emission spectra and are discussed in detail. The estimated cIE chromaticity co-ordinates are very close to the NTsc(National Television standard committee) standard value of red emission. The synthesized NPs show excellent photocatalytic activity of acid red-88 under UV-light irradiation, which can degrade 98.1% in60 min. The decreasing electron-hole pair recombination rate with quick electron transfer ability is predominantly ascribed to the balance between crystallite size, morphology, band gap, defects, surface area, etc. These results show a light for the use of sonochemical route of Bi_2 O_3:Eu^(3+):Li^+ in solid state display and photocatalytic applications.

The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) graphene-polydimethylsiloxane (PDMs) nanofluid flow between two squeezing parallel plates in the presence of thermal radiation effects is investigated. The energy efficiency of the system via the Bejan number is studied extensively. The governing partial differential equations are converted by using the similarity transformations into a set of coupled ordinary differential equations. The set of these converted equations is solved by using the differential transform method (DTM). The entropy generation in terms of the Bejan number, the coefficient of skin-friction, and the heat transfer rate is furthermore investigated under the effects of various physical parameters of interest. The present study shows that the Bejan number, the velocity and thermal profiles, and the rate of heat transfer decrease with a rise in the Deborah number De while the skin-friction coefficient increases. It is also observed that the entropy generation due to frictional forces is higher than that due to thermal effects. Thus, the study bears the potential application in powder technology as.w.ll as in biomedical engineering.

A mode-locked thulium ytterbium co-doped fiber laser （TYDFL） is proposed and demonstrated by using a commercial graphene oxide （GO） paper as saturable absorber （sA）. The GO paper is sandwiched between two fiber ferrules and incorporates a ring laser cavity to generate soliton pulse train operating at 1942.0nm at a threshold multimode pump power as low as 1.8 w. The mode-locked TYDFL has a repetition rate of 22.32 MHz and the calculated pulse width of 1.1 ns. Even though the sA has a low damage threshold, the easy fabrication of GO paper should promote its potentiM application in ultrafast photonics.

Microstructure and phase transformation behaviors of the film annealed at different temperatures.w.re studied by X-ray diffractometry （XRD）, transmission electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimeter （Dsc）. Also tensile tests.w.re examined. For increasing annealed temperature, multiple phase transformations, transformations via a B19-phase or direct martensite/austenite transformtion are observed. The TiNiPd thin film annealed at 750℃ had relatively uniform martensite/austenite transformtion and shape memory effect. Martensite/austenite transformtion was also found in strain-temperature curves. subsequent annealing at 450℃ had minor effect on transformation temperatures of Ti-Ni-Pd thin films but resulted in more uniform transformation and improved shape memory effect.

The tensile properties of three different carbonfiberreinforced carbon composites (c/c), mat c/c, 2D laminate and 4D c/c, were investigated under the combined influence of temperature and loading rate. From the experiments the following could be concluded: loading rate between 10-1-10 mm/min was valid; the fracture stress of the three kinds of c/c composites increased with increasing temperature in the range from room temperature to 1900, and the initial modulus of 2D laminate c/c composites increased with the increase of temperature up to 2000.
