This work presents the electronic behavior of Ti and TiN thin films when exposed to electrolytes with pH levels of 2,7 and 13 for 90 days.staircase potentio-electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests were performed on the 100-nm Ti and TiN monolithic films,and Mottschottky analysis of these tests was used to determine the films’ semiconductive behavior and changes in the donor/acceptor density.In addition,the flat-band potential of each film’s surface oxide was also characterized.No attempt was made to control oxide formation,and therefore,these tests reflected the native surfaces of these films.While the TiN films exhibited n-type semiconductivity in all electrolytes,the Ti films only showed n-type behavior in the acidic(pH=2) and neutral(pH=7) electrolytes.The semiconductivity of the Ti films transitioned to p-type during exposure to the basic electrolyte(pH=13) after reaching 60 days.Furthermore,there was a significant increase in the donor densities for both Ti and TiN films when immersed in the basic electrolyte relative to the acidic and neutral electrolytes.

This paper presents an experimental investigation on fracture behavior of epoxy resin-carbon fibers composites interleaved with both neat polyacrylonitrile （PAN） nanofibers and A1203-PAN nanofibers. In particular, the paper focuses on the effect of adding Al2O3 nanopartiles in PAN nanofibers, which were incorporated in unidirectional （UD） laminates. The effectiveness of adding a thin film made of Al2O3-PAN on the fracture behavior of the carbon fiber reinforced polymer （CFRP） has been addressed by comparing the energy release rates, obtained by testing double cantilever beam （DCB） samples under mode I loading condition. A general improvement in interlaminar fracture energy of the CFRP is observed when the both neat PAN nanofibers and Al2O3-PAN nanofibers are interleaved. However, higher interlaminar strength has been observed for the samples with a thin film of Al2O3-PAN nanofibers, suggesting a better stress distribution and stress transformation from resin-rich area to reinforcement phase of hybrid composites.

Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Activities of A Novel Isomeric Molecule(PF5)Obtained from Methanolic Extract of Pleurotus Florida Mushroom

The Pleurotus florida is recognized as a medicinal and edible mushroom and the present study intends to reveal the active isomeric molecules from this mushroom.The P.florida was cultivated using different nutrient supplements:groundnut husk,maize powder,horse gram powder and coconut oil-cake powder.Horse gram supplement showed the higher mushroom yield and henceit was used for the cultivation of P.florida.Methanolic extract of P.florida was found to be efficient in antioxidant activity among ethanol,aqueous,ethyl acetate and hexane extracts.The bioactive fraction 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy cinnamic acid(PF5)was isolated and purified from the methanolic extract of P.florida by column chromatography,thin layer chromatography(TLC)and gas chromatography-mass spectrum(GC-Ms)and further it was characterized by Nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR).The PF5 was tested for its DPPH and reducing power assays,and the IC_(50) values were found to be 21.7μg/mL and 105μg/mL,respectively.We found that the cytotoxic effect of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy cinnamic acid was tested against the lung cancer cell line using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide(MTT),sulphorodamine B(sRB)and trypan blue assays which exhibited a higher cytotoxic effect(CTC_(50),645μg/mL).These results suggested that 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy cinnamic acid from P.florida could be explored as a novel and potent natural antioxidant and cancer preventive agent,alternative to existing synthetic molecules.

Enigmatic calcareous conical fossils have been known from marine Paleocene-Eocene sequences of New Zea-land since the early 1870s.More recently,similar fossils have been recorded from both Late Cretaceous ma-rine sequences of Western Australia,New Caledonia and Antarctica,and possibly from the Eocene of south America.The present paper extends the record to the late Cretaceous of New Caledonia.These remains are un-like any living taxa,and have been variously interpreted as molluscs(rudistid bivalves),cirripedes(stalked bar-nacles),annelids and inorganic structures.Assignation to the Cirripedia has been refuted by Buckeridge(1983,1993),who proposed that the material would be better placed within the Cnidaria.We investigate this hypothe-sis in light of the New Caledonian material and by comparison with living gorgonians and pennatulaceans,and demonstrate that Waiparaconus is best placed within the Pennatulacea.Waiparaconus zelandicus varies in form somewhat,with 3 morphotypes defined and reinforced by geography.Comment is provided on the imperative to fit organic remains into known groups,with reflection on what may happen if taxa are left in insertae sedis.

Evaluation of L929 cell morphology on anthocyanin-containing gelatin-based hydrogel for early detection of infection

Wounds heal through a complex process including four phases.Any interruption or interference in healing process can prevent wound healing.Infection is one of the most common complications preventing wounds from healing.In this study,we investigated the fibroblast cell morphology and behavior of a gelatin-based hydrogel containing anthocyanin to determine whether it can be used for early detection of infection.The experimental results ascertained that 6 h after culturing the fibroblasts,they could be well attached to the surface of the hydrogel,and 48 h after seeding,they were spread over the surface and connected with each other.After the addition of a low dose of anthocyanin,the vitality of the cell increased,and the results of the ATR-FTIR analysis showed that anthocyanin could eliminate remaining glutaraldehyde free radicals.Anthocyanin also could change its color after the addition of bacterial supernatant.Thus,hydrogels containing black carrot anthocyanin may be a potential therapeutic and diagnostic strategy to promote wound healing and early detection of infection.

Microgrids with hybrid renewable energy sources are increasing and it is a promising solution to electrify remote areas where distribution network expansion is not feasible or not economical.standalone microgrids with environment-friendly hybrid energy sources is a cost-effective solution that ensures system reliability and energy security.This paper determines the optimal capacity,energy dispatching and techno-economic benefits of standalone microgrid in remote area in Tamilnadu,India.Microgrids with hybrid energy sources comprising photovoltaic(PV),wind turbine(WT),battery energy storage system(BEss)and diesel generator(DG)are considered in this paper.Various case studies are implemented with hybrid energy sources and for each case study a comparative analysis of techno-economic benefits is demonstrated.Eight different configurations of hybrid energy sources are modeled with renewable fractions of 50%,60%,65%,and 100%,respectively.The optimization analysis is carried out using Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable(HOMER)software.Impact of demand response is also demonstrated on energy dispatching and technoeconomic benefits.simulation results are obtained for the optimal capacity of PV,WT,DG,converter,and BEss,charging/discharging pattern,state of charge(sOC),net present cost(NPC),cost of energy(COE),initial cost,operation cost,fuel cost,greenhouse gas emission penalty and payback period considering seasonal load variation.It is observed that PV+BEss is the most economical configuration.COE in standalone microgrid is higher than the conventional grid price.The results show that CO2 emissions in hybrid PV+WT+DG+BEss are reduced by about 68%compared with the traditional isolated distribution system with DG.

Gastric cancer(GC) is a highly heterogenic disease,and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in the world.Common chemotherapies are not very effective for GC,which often presents as an advanced or metastatic disease at diagnosis.Treatment options are limited,and the prognosis for advanced GCs is poor.The landscape of genomic alterations in GCs has recently been characterized by several international cancer genome programs,including studies that focused exclusively on GCs in Asians.These studies identified major recurrent driver mutations and provided new insights into the mutational heterogeneity and genetic profiles of GCs.An analysis of gene expression data by the Asian Cancer Research Group(ACRG) further uncovered four distinct molecular subtypes with well-defined clinical features and their intersections with actionable genetic alterations to which targeted therapeutic agents are either already available or under clinical development.In this article,we review the ACRG GC project.We also discuss the implications of the genetic and molecular findings from various GC genomic studies with respect to developing more precise diagnoses and treatment approaches for GCs.

Exploring novel candidate genes from the Mouse Genome Informatics database: Potential implications for avian migration research

To search for genes associated with migratory phenotypes in songbirds,we selected candidate genes through annotations from the Mouse Genome Informatics database and assembled an extensive candidate-gene library.Then,we implemented a next-generation sequencing approach to obtain DNA sequences from the Painted Bunting genome.We focused on those sequences that were conserved across avian species and that aligned with candidate genes in our mouse library.We genotyped short sequence repeats from the following candidate genes:ADRA1d,ANKRD17,CIsH and MYH7.We studied the possible correlations between allelic variations occurring in these novel candidate migration genes and avian migratory phenotypes available from the published literature.We found that allele variation at MYH7 correlated with a calculated index of speed of migration(km/day)across 11 species of songbirds.We highlight the potential of the Mouse Genome Informatics database in providing new candidate genes that might play a crucial role in regulating migration in birds and possibly in other taxa.Our research effort shows the benefits and limitations of working with extensive genomic datasets and offers a snapshot of the challenges related to cross-species validation in behavioral and molecular ecology studies.

Automation in U.s. longwall coal mining: A state-of-the-art review

This paper reviews the development of U.s. longwall mining from an unknown to became the world standard in the past five decades with emphasis on automation. Large scale longwall face equipment were imported from Germany and United Kingdom to increase production in the 1970 s and great effort was made to improve them to suit U.s. conditions, rather than domestic market. Automation began with the development of electrohydraulic shields in 1984 and continue to present. Introduction of first generation semi-automated longwall system occurred in 1995 and step-to-step improvement continues to present following the development of sensor technology and internet of things(IOT). since then, emphasis on new development has been concentrated on the improvement of equipment reliability, miner's health and safety as well as production, including dust control techniques, proximity sensor, anti-collision and remote control. Automation is classified into two categories: automation of individual face equipment and automation of longwall system. The automation development of longwall system is divided into three stages: shearer-initiated-shield-advance(sIsA), semi-automated longwall system, and remote control shearer.
