Building Custom spreadsheet Functions with Python: End-User software Engineering Approach

End-user computing empowers non-developers to manage data and applications, enhancing collaboration and efficiency. spreadsheets, a prime example of end-user programming environments widely used in business for data analysis. However, Excel functionalities have limits compared to dedicated programming languages. This paper addresses this gap by proposing a prototype for integrating Python’s capabilities into Excel through on-premises desktop to build custom spreadsheet functions with Python. This approach overcomes potential latency issues associated with cloud-based solutions. This prototype utilizes Excel-DNA and IronPython. Excel-DNA allows creating custom Python functions that seamlessly integrate with Excel’s calculation engine. IronPython enables the execution of these Python (CsFs) directly within Excel. C# and VsTO add-ins form the core components, facilitating communication between Python and Excel. This approach empowers users with a potentially open-ended set of Python (CsFs) for tasks like mathematical calculations, statistical analysis, and even predictive modeling, all within the familiar Excel interface. This prototype demonstrates smooth integration, allowing users to call Python (CsFs) just like standard Excel functions. This research contributes to enhancing spreadsheet capabilities for end-user programmers by leveraging Python’s power within Excel. Future research could explore expanding data analysis capabilities by expanding the (CsFs) functions for complex calculations, statistical analysis, data manipulation, and even external library integration. The possibility of integrating machine learning models through the (CsFs) functions within the familiar Excel environment.

microsoft Excel is essential for the End-User Approach (EUA), offering versatility in data organization, analysis, and visualization, as well as widespread accessibility. It fosters collaboration and informed decision-making across diverse domains. Conversely, Python is indispensable for professional programming due to its versatility, readability, extensive libraries, and robust community support. It enables efficient development, advanced data analysis, data mining, and automation, catering to diverse industries and applications. However, one primary issue when using microsoft Excel with Python libraries is compatibility and interoperability. While Excel is a widely used tool for data storage and analysis, it may not seamlessly integrate with Python libraries, leading to challenges in reading and writing data, especially in complex or large datasets. Additionally, manipulating Excel files with Python may not always preserve formatting or formulas accurately, potentially affecting data integrity. moreover, dependency on Excel’s graphical user interface (GUI) for automation can limit scalability and reproducibility compared to Python’s scripting capabilities. This paper covers the integration solution of empowering non-programmers to leverage Python’s capabilities within the familiar Excel environment. This enables users to perform advanced data analysis and automation tasks without requiring extensive programming knowledge. Based on soliciting feedback from non-programmers who have tested the integration solution, the case study shows how the solution evaluates the ease of implementation, performance, and compatibility of Python with Excel versions.

目的:探讨女童梗阻性与非梗阻性子宫阴道积液的鉴别诊断。方法:回顾分析2013年12月—2020年1月上海儿童医学中心收治的21例超声诊断为子宫阴道积液女童,均有完整影像学、手术资料。结果:梗阻性子宫阴道积液19例(手术证实处女膜闭锁14例,阴道闭锁5例),包括青春期14例、学龄前期2例、幼儿期1例、新生儿期1例、胎龄5个月1例。非梗阻性子宫阴道积液2例(膀胱阴道反流),积液透声好,排空膀胱后复查消失,分别为学龄期、学龄前期。结论:女童子宫阴道积液可通过超声区分梗阻性与非梗阻性。

A coupled CFD simulation approach for investigating the pyrolysis process in industrial naphtha thermal cracking furnaces

In the steam thermal cracking of naphtha,the hydrocarbon stream flows inside tubular reactors and is exposed to flames of a series of burners in the *** this paper,a full three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model was developed to investigate the process variables in the firebox and reactor coil of an industrial naphtha *** comprehensive CFD model consists of a standard k-εturbulence model accompanied by a molecular kinetic reaction for cracking,detailed combustion model,and radiative *** order to improve the steam cracking performance,the model is solved using a proposed iterative *** respect to temperature,product yield and specially propylene-toethylene ratio(P/E),the simulation results agreed well with industrial data obtained from a mega olefin plant of a petrochemical *** deviation of P/E results from industrial data was less than 2%.The obtained velocity,temperature,and concentration profiles were used to investigate the residence time,coking rate,coke concentration,and some other *** coke concentration at coil exit was1.9×10^(-3)%(mass)and the residence time is calculated to be 0.29 *** results can be used as a scientific guide for process engineers.

Background: spinal dysraphism represents a wide spectrum of congenital abnormalities of the spine. myelomeningocele is considered the most common malformation and the most common we saw in our community, with its morbidity problems seen commonly in the postoperative period. AsQ-3sup>Tmsup> scores are the ages and stages questionnaire, third edition, and represent a tool to assess the development progress, especially in toddlers. Objectives: Evaluation of neurodevelopmental outcome among sudanese toddlers with spinal dysraphism after surgical closure with or without a VP shunt using AsQ-3sup>Tmsup> scores. methodology: This is a retrospective hospital-based study of 84 patients who underwent myelomeningocele repair at the National Center for Neurological sciences (NCNs) during the period from 2017 up to 2019. Data were collected through a constructed questionnaire, including AsQ-3sup>Tmsup> scores. Data were processed and analyzed using the statistical Package for social science (sPss) computer program. Version 25. Results: 84 patients were included in this study;all patients were diagnosed with spinal dysraphism. Out of them, 51 (60.7%) were 2 years old, 33 (39.3%) were 3 years old, 45 (53.6%) were male, 45 (53.6%) of patients mothers attended ANC irregularly, and 54 (64.3%) their mothers didn’t receive folate supplements. 44 (52.3%) of patients underwent mmC repair only, while 40 (47.7%) underwent mmC repair and VP shunt. The commonest postoperative complication was infection, reported in 12 (14.3%) of patients, followed by VP shunt revision in 9 (10.7%) of patients. Neurological assessment showed that the majority of patients need further assessment with a professional, 57 (67.9%) of children don’t walk, run, or climb like other toddlers as their parent’s state;also, half of patients (42, 50%) had medical problems, and 27 (32.1%) of their parent’s state that they do not talk like other toddlers their age.
