The ability of vitamin E to prevent or treat experimental lead intoxication was investigated in *** ingestion(10 mg/kg,lead as lead acetate,orally fbr 6 weeks)significantly inhibited the activity of blood δ-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase(ALAD),reduced the brain dopamine (DA)contents,enhanced the blood zinc protoporphyrin,and enhanced the urinary excretion of δ-aminolevulinic acid(ALA).Lead exposure also elevated brain norepinephrine,homovanillic acid,and 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid(5-HIAA)levels and concentration of lead in blood and *** supplementation of vitamin E along with lead significantly reduced the inhibition of blood ALAD activity,brain DA and 5-HIAA levels,and elevation of urinary ALA *** and liver lead concentrations were also significantly reduced by simultaneous supplementation with vitamin *** exposure treatment with vitamin E was ineffective in reducing the lead-induced effects,except that the inhibition of blood ALAD activity was slightly *** present results suggest that vitamin E given simultaneously with lead is effective in reducing the severity of lead intoxication.1989 Academic ***.

The cryosphere constitutes an important subset of the hydrosphere. The Himalayan cryosphere is a significant contributor to the hydrological budget of a large river system such as the Ganges. Basic data on the cryosphere in the Himalaya is inadequate and also has large uncertainties. The data on glacial melt component in the Himalayan rivers of India also shows high variability. The Gangotri glacier which constitutes nearly a fifth of the glacierized area of the Bhagirathi basin represents one of the fastest receding, large valley glaciers in the region which has been surveyed and monitored for over sixty years. The availability of measurement over a long period and relatively small glacier-fed basin for the Bha- girathi river provides suitable constraints for the measurement of the glacial melt fraction in a Himalayan river. Pre- and post-monsoon samples reveal a decreasing trend of depletion of 0180 in the river water from glacier snout （Gaumukh） to the confluence of the Bhagiratbi river with the Alaknanda river near Devprayag. Calculations of existing glacial melt fraction （-30% at Rishikesh） are not consistent with the reported glacial thinning rates. It is contended that the choice of unsuitable end-members in the three component mixing model causes the overestimation of glacial melt component in the river discharge. Careful selection of end members provides results （-11% at Devprayag） that are consistent with the expected thinning rates.

AIM:To study the hemodynamics in the immediate post transplant period and compare patients with alcoholic vs viral cirrhosis. METHODs:Between 2000-2003,38 patients were transplanted for alcoholic cirrhosis and 28 for postviral *** rate(HR),central venous pressure(CVP), mean arterial pressure(MAP),pulmonary capillary wedge pressure(PCWP),cardiac index(CI),systemic vascular resistance index(sVRI),pulmonary artery pressure(PAP),and pulmonary vascular resistance index(PVRI)were measured immediately and 24 h post transplantation. REsULTs:Hyperdynamic circulation persisted at 24 hfollowing transplantation with an elevated CI of 5.4± 1.3 L/(min×m 2 )and 4.9±1.0 L/(min×m 2 )in the viral and alcoholic groups,respectively,and was associated with a decreased *** the first 24 h, there was a significant decrease in HR and increase in MAP;the extent of the change was similar in both *** CVP,PCWP,and sVRI increased,and CI decreased in the viral patients,but not the alcoholic *** showed a lower PVRI(119±52 dynes/(cm 5 ×m 2 )vs 166±110 dynes/(cm5×m2),Ps 24±7 mmHg,PsION:Hyperdynamic circulation persists in the immediate post-transplant period with a faster improvement in the viral *** patients have a more pronounced pulmonary vasodilatation.

The influence of vitamin E on cadmium intoxication was investigated in rats. The exposure to cadmium (1 mg/kg, Cd as CdCl2·2H2O, intraperitoneally for 7 days) decreased the activity of hepatic and renal glutamic oxalacetic and glutamic pyruvic transaminases (GOT, GPT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) accompanied by increase in the levels of serum GOT and GPT and urinary protein. simultaneous administration of vitamin E (5 mg/kg, intramuscularly for 7 days) reduced these Cd induced biochemical alterations. The accumulation of Cd in blood, liver and kidney also decreased significantly upon co-exposure to vitamin E. The antioxidant property of vitamin E seems to be responsible for the observed protection of Cd intoxication.

The present study was conducted in 30 patients of malignant pleural effusion and 30 patients of non malignant pleural effusion. Pleural fluid and blood samples were taken at the time of admission,before starting any treatment. sialic acid levels were estimated in serum and pleural fluid by Warren's TBA method. In the present study,serum sialic acid levels were higher in group II as compared to group I. In the present study,pleural fluid sialic acid levels and PF/s ratio was higher in malignant pleural effusion (though difference was not statistically significant). smokers in group II had higher serum sialic acid as compared to group 1 (Psensitivity and specificity of pleural fluid/serum sialic acid ratio with cut off value of 0.7 were 76.67% and 20% respectively,while taking the cut off value of 70 mg/dL for pleural fluid sialic acid in malignant pleural effusions,the sensitivity was 63.33%,specificity 60% and positive predictive value 46.34%. These findings indicate that determination of sialic acid levels in pleural fluid has diagnostic value as a cheap,simple and reliable marker for malignant pleural effusion.

The present paper demonstrates the applicability of finite element method of weighted residuals to study the effects of precipitation scavenging through raindrops on the steady-state dispersion of air pollutants in the atmosphere under realistic variable wind and diffusivity ***,the washout of pollutants by rain droplets is considered and the whole analysis for the pollutant concentration is carried out in two phases *** phase and droplet *** model solutions are obtained by using local basis and asymmetric quadratic weighting functions which can provide a promising alternative to the standard Galerkin formulation for problems with advective and diffusive *** results of the model reveal that the precipitation scavenging by rain is quite effective in cleaning the polluted *** the need of pollutant concentration in rain drops regarding acid precipitation(or acid rain),the concentration of the absorbed pollutant in the droplet phase are also ***,the present study provides an understanding on the concentration distribution of pollutant in gaseous and droplet phases,under the effects of variable wind and diffusivity profiles.

A mathematical model is presented here to investigate the effects of environmental pollution,intensified by urbanization,on the density of human ***,urbanization is assumed to grow with constant rate and also,induced through growing population and the corresponding population *** model analysis,qualitatively and numerically,show that though the growth of population or population pressure is responsible for the growing urbanization,but for very large increase of urbanization,the population may not survive in the long run due to environmental pollution driven by urbanization.

A nonlinear sEIR mathematical model is developed to investigate the impact of migrated population,infected with Ebola virus,on human-to-human transmission of Ebola Virus Disease(EVD)in a disease-free *** view of the dynamics of Ebola virus disease,here,the infected class is supposed to be divided into subclasses,*** and secondary *** proposed model is analyzed qualitatively using the stability theory of differential equations and quantitatively using numerical *** obtained results,qualitatively and quantitatively,suggest that migration and contact rates play an important role in controlling the spreading of *** values for migration and contact rates are evaluated and it is revealed that if these rates go beyond their critical values,it leads to delay in the stabilization of the *** is also found that primary reproductive number increases with increase in migration *** this,the approximate time required to attain stability of the disease model system is also *** model analysis recommends quarantining the noninfected from the secondary infected in order to control the spreading out of disease.
