Our knowledge about the food habits of sea snakes and how it is associated with their distribution has seen much development through its description across a number of species available through published literature except for the key threatened species such asHydrophis semperi. This paper aims to describe the food habits ofH. semperi through gut content and stable isotope analyses. We also compared data with the Little File snake,Acrochordus granulatus, sympatric withH. *** captures ofH. semperi suggest that the sea snake tends to occur in the littoral zones and the shallower portions of the limnetic zone. Gut content analysis ofH. semperi have shown that gobies and eels are primary prey items. Halfbeaks （Family Hemiramphidae） were recorded as one of the Lake Taal sea snake＇s prey items which is considered as a new prey record for sea snakes. These extracted gut contents are conifrmed to be the temporal food preference ofH. semperi given our detected stable isotope signatures. It appears thatA. granulatus and H. semperi share common prey items suggesting possible diet overlap and resource *** study reports the ifrst account of the endemic Lake Taal sea snake＇s distribution and food habits which poses implications towards its conservation as it occurs in a restricted ecosystem that has undergone considerable habitat alteration.

Due to its ubiquitous presence in the environment and the lack of a scientific consensus regarding the environmental safety of the widely used anionic surfactant sodium Lauryl sulfate(CAs No:151-21-3),a systematic literature review and thematic analysis was *** studies about sodium lauryl sulfate(sLs)in the environment in key databases were reviewed,with coding methods used to identify impact categories from sLs exposure without potential narration *** on the limited number of studies on sLs,there is empirical evidence of this surfactant contributing to environmental toxicity at various concentrations(0.004-3509 mg L^(-1)),with aquatic organisms at a higher risk from ***,exposure to sLs can elicit changes to various organismic processes and environmental ***,further study on sLs in various environmental compartments is recommended to monitor the level of sLs pollution,understand its behavior upon contact with various environmental media,and understand its impacts on flora and ***,sLs quantification should be done on commonly used consumer products to potentially regulate its use and to consequently curb sLs pollution from its source.

We report amphibian and reptile distribution records based on recent biodiversity surveys conducted at the Angat Watershed Reservation, Bulacan Province, Luzon Island, Philippines. This watershed constitutes the principal water source for Manila, the Philippines＇ largest metropolitan area. As virtually nothing is known of the herpetological diversity of the immediate area and the surrounding Bulacan Province, all species recorded as part of our surveys constitute major geographical records and/or significant range extensions. Our data result in a total of 63 new records of amphibian （19 frogs） and reptile （22 lizards, 2 turtles, and 20 snakes） species for this protected area （and immediate vicinity） that serves as a watershed for the major metropolitan area of Manila and surrounding cities. Together with the few previous literature records, our new records bring the total number of amphibian and reptile species for Bulacan Province to 68. We discuss several strategies for future survey work （focusing on habitat type, seasonal variation, and elevational variability） that we anticipate will result in increased knowledge of diversity within the Angat Watershed Reserve. The impressive level of herpetological diversity within such a small area, so close to Metro Manila, emphasizes that the diversity and distribution patterns of amphibians and reptiles from Luzon are still poorly known and in need of further study.

背景:分子流行病学在近期的结核病传播中的重要性得到了加强,但同时也发现了一些与传统流行病学的显著区别。目的:1.在城市中心区的结核病高流行区(163/100000)和有成簇危险的人群中用RFLP法确定成簇病例的百分比。2.比较传统接触者追踪法(CCT)与RFLP法的作用。分析:1997-1998年间巴塞罗纳市Ciutat Vella区收集的培养阳性的165例标本,利用Is6110和pTBN12(PGRs)序列进行RFLP分析:对251例公布的病例中的171例(68.1％)进行了接触者追踪调查。通过计算比值比(OR)、使用95％的可信区间(CI)评价它们之间的联系。多变量的分析采用逻辑回归。结果:通过RFLP分析,发现76例(46.0％)的分离株在Is6110和PGRs序列上有成簇现象,通过传统接触者追踪法(CCT),在858名接触者中,发现了30名新病人,57名病人存在关联。就RFLP和CCT调查结果来看,主要危险因素为静脉吸毒(IVDU)。44名独居者病例未包括在传统接触者追踪中,50％的病例用RFLP分析存在成簇。RFLP和CCT法的符合率为8/13(61.5％);5例不符合者为新近的非洲移民。在随后的RFLP分析中15/55例病例发现有流行病学关联。结论:成簇病例的百分率很高。CCT在发现新病例时很有用,但在追踪传播路径时存在缺陷。CCT的覆盖面需要在被忽视的个体及与RFLP结果的符合率方面提高。

Tracking persons in dangerous situations as well as monitoring their physical condition, is often crucial for their safety. The systems commonly used for this purpose do not include individual monitoring or are too expensive and intrusive to be deployed in common situations. In this project, a mobile system based on energy-efficient wireless sensor networks (WsNs) and active radio frequency identification (RFID) has been developed to achieve ubiquitous positioning and monitoring of people in hazardous situations. The system designed can identify each individual, locate him/her, send data regarding their physical situation, and ascertain whether they are located in a confined space. A new algorithm called time division double beacon scheduling (TDDBs) has been implemented to increase operation time and data transmission rate of the nodes in the system. The results show that the use of this system allows us to find the location and state of a person, as well as to provide an analysis of the potential risks at each moment, in real time and in an energy-efficient way. In an emergency, the system also allows for quicker intervention, as it not only provides the location and causes of the event, but also informs about the physical condition of the individual at that moment.
