Nanothermite colloids: A new prospective for enhanced performance

Nanothermites (metal oxide/metal) can offer tremendously exothermic self sustained reactions. CuO is one of the most effective oxidizers for naonothermite applications. This study reports on two prospectives for the manufacture of CuO nanoparticles. Colloidal CuO particles of 15 nm particle size were developed using hydrothermal synthesis technique. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with surface are 700m2/g was employed as a substrate for synthesis of CuO-coated MWCNTs using electroless plating. On the other hand, aluminium particles with combustion heat of 32000 J/g is of interest as high energy density material. The impact of stoichiometric nanothermite particles (CuO/Al & Cuo-coated MWCNTs/Al) on shock wave strength of Al/TNT nanocomposite was evaluated using ballistic mortar test. While CuO-coated MWCNTs decreased the shock wave strength by 15%;colloidal CuO enhanced the shock wave strength by 30%. The superior performance of colloidal CuO particles was correlated to their steric stabilization with employed organic solvent. This is the first time ever to report on fabrication, isolation, and integration of stablilized colloidal nanothermite particles into energetic matrix where intimate mixing between oxidizer and metal fuel could be achieved.

Chitosan is one of the most studied polysaccharides nowadays. Because it is non-toxic, widely used in food, pharmaceutical processes, agricultural, and presents excellent biological properties such as biodegradation in the human body, and antibacterial. In the present study we reported the extraction of low cost chitosans (Cs1, Cs2, Cs3 and Cs4) from shrimp shells by extraction of chitin (Egypt: case study), then alkaline deacetylation of chitin with strong alkaline solution at different period of time. The different prepared chitosans (Cs1, Cs2, Cs3 and Cs4) were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, thermal stability, morphology, crystallography, elemental analysis and degree of deacetylation. The data showed that the prepared chitosan Cs2 has the most thermal stability and the highest degree of deacetylation.

Understanding choice of family planning provider is fundamental for policy makers and program managers as they seek ways to both improve the coverage and increase the sustainability and efficiency of family planning services for Egypt to achieve its population objectives. This study focuses first on providing a descriptive profile of the patterns of reliance on sources of family planning services during the early 2000s. Binomial logit models are then estimated to obtain a more in depth understanding of the determinants of the choice of family planning providers in Egypt using the 2000 Egypt Demographic and Health survey. The study offers insights into a number of aspects of family planning service provision about which there has been less previous investigation. There are marked differences in the extent to which Egyptian women rely on public or private providers for family planning services depending on the type of method they are seeking. Among the more important findings is the consistency women display in the choice of provider among women reporting multiple segments of use. With regard to the determinants of the choice of provider for family planning services, perhaps the most interesting finding is that household wealth was not a significant determinant of the choice of provider. This may reflect that private sources met the demand for family planning services of significant proportions of women in rural areas and among those in the low income groups.

Urtica dioica is a perennial herb from the family of Urticaceae that is commonly known as stinging *** plant is widespread in Europe,Africa,America,and a part of Asia,as it adapts to different environments and climatic *** leaves,stalk,and bark of *** found applications in the field of nutrition,cosmetics,textile,pest control and *** this connection,bioactive chemical constituents such as flavonoids,phenolic acids,amino acids,carotenoids,and fatty acids have been isolated from the *** this review,we aim at providing an updated and comprehensive overview of the contributions in literature reporting computational,in vitro,pre-clinical and clini-cal data supporting the therapeutic applications of *** evidence shows that *** constituents and extracts can provide neuroprotective effects by acting through a combination of different molecular mecha-nisms,that are discussed in the *** findings could lay the basis for the identification and design of more effective tools against neurodegenerative diseases.

Characteristics of Antioxidant Isolated from some Plant sources

Antioxidant characteristics of ginger roots, guava leaves, guava seeds, orange peel, sesame coat, rice bran and wheat germ as affected by ethanol, ethyl acetate, chloroform, hexane and petroleum ether were evaluated. Petroleum ether extract of ginger roots, ethanol extracts of guava leaves, guava seeds, orange peel and sesame coat and ethyl acetate extracts of rice bran and wheat germ appeared to possess higher antioxidant activity than those from other solvents. ginger roots, orange peel and guava leaves exhibited higher antioxidant activity than that of α-tocopherol, while guava seeds, sesame coat, rice bran and wheat germ had lower antioxidant activity than that of α-tocopherol. guava leaves extract had the highest total phenolics content among the other plant material extracts followed by ginger roots, sesame coat and orange peel extracts. However, total flavonoids content was the highest in ginger roots extract followed by guava leaves extract. Ferulic was the highest phenolic compounds in guava leaves and sesame coat extracts. However, chlorogenic acid was the highest phenolic compounds in ginger roots extract. Antioxidants in ginger roots, guava leaves and sesame coat extracts as well as α-tocopherol were heat stable with 73.1, 73.8, 66.7 and 71.6% activity, respectively, after heating at 100°C for 180 min. Induction periods of sunflower oil containing 2% guava leaves and 2% ginger roots extracts were increased by 230.6% and 226.7%, respectively. However, induction period of sunflower oil containing sesame coat was increased by 174.1%, at 0.5% concentration. similar increment was found for the protection factor. ginger roots, guava leaves and sesame coat might be promising sources of natural antioxidant to be used in food products.
