Factors Influencing Cities’ Publishing Efficiency

Purpose： Recently, a vast number of scientific publications have been produced in cities in emerging countries. It has long been observed that the publication output of Beijing has exceeded that of any other city in the world, including such leading centres of science as Boston, New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo. Researchers have suggested that, instead of focusing on cities＇ total publication output, the quality of the output in terms of the number of highly cited papers should be examined. However, in the period from 2014 to 2016, Beijing produced as many highly cited papers as Boston, London, or New York. In this paper, another method is proposed to measure cities＇ publishing performance by focusing on cities＇ publishing efficiency （i.e., the ratio of highly cited articles to all articles produced in that city）.Design/methodology/approach： First, 554 cities are ranked based on their publishing efficiency, then some general factors influencing cities＇ publishing efficiency are revealed. The general factors examined in this paper are as follows： the linguistic environment of cities, cities＇ economic development level, the location of excellent organisations, cities＇ international collaboration patterns, and their scientific field profile. Furthermore, the paper examines the fundamental differences between the general factors influencing the publishing efficiency of the top 100 most efficient cities and the bottom 100 least efficient cities.Findings： Based on the research results, the conclusion can be drawn that a city＇s publishing efficiency will be high if meets the following general conditions： it is in a country in the Anglosphere-Core; it is in a high-income country; it is home to top-ranked universities and/ or world-renowned research institutions; researchers affiliated with that city most intensely collaborate with researchers affiliated with cities in the United states, Germany, England, France, Canada, Australia, and Italy; and the most productive scientific disciplines of highly cited articles are pu

Low frequency （in comparison to ion plasma frequency） ion-acoustic shocks and solitons in superdense electronpositron-ion quantum plasmas are studied. The quantum hydrodynamic model is used incorporating quantum Bohm forces and Fermi-Dirac statistical corrections to derive the deformed Korteweg de Vries-Burgers （dKdVB） equation in weakly nonlinear limit. The travelling wave solution of dKdVB equation is presented and results are discussed in different limits. It is found that shock height increases with increase of quantum pressure, positron concentration and dissipation. Further, it is seen that the width of soliton decreases with increase of quantum pressure

A search for the doubly charmed baryon ?cc~+ with the decay mode ?cc~+→Ξc~+K~-π~+ is performed using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1. No significant signal is observed within the invariant mass range of 3.6 to 4.0 GeV/c~2. Upper limits are set on the ratio R of the production cross-section times the total branching fraction of the ?cc~+→Ξc~+K~-π~+ decay with respect to the Ξcc++→Λc~+K~-π~+π~+ decay. Upper limits at 95% credibility level for R in the range 0.005 to 0.11 are obtained for diferent hypotheses on the ?cc~+ mass and lifetime in the rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and transverse momentum range from 4 to 15 GeV/c.

The influence of white and color noise on the outcome of the entanglement swapping process is investigated in a four-qubit system. Critical degree of noise in initial state, that could destroy entanglement in a result state is presented. The entanglement characteristics, such as concurrence, tangle, etc. are compared. Results could be helpful for experiments regarding entanglement swapping as conditions for initial quantum entangled states, to obtain entangled result state.

Artificial Intelligence(AI)encompasses various domains such as Machine Learning(ML),Deep Learning(DL),and other cognitive technologies which have been widely applied in healthcare sector.AI models are utilized in healthcare sector in which the machines are used to investigate and make decisions based on prediction and classification of input data.With this motivation,the current study involves the design of Metaheuristic Optimization with Kernel Extreme Learning Machine for COVID-19 Prediction Model on Epidemiology Dataset,named MOKELM-CPED technique.The primary aim of the presented MOKELM-CPED model is to accomplish effectual COVID-19 classification outcomes using epidemiology dataset.In the proposed MOKELM-CPED model,the data first undergoes pre-processing to transform the medical data into useful format.Followed by,data classification process is performed by following Kernel Extreme Learning Machine(KELM)model.Finally,symbiotic Organism search(sOs)optimization algorithm is utilized to fine tune the KELM parameters which consequently helps in achieving high detection efficiency.In order to investigate the improved classifier outcomes of MOKELM-CPED model in an effectual manner,a comprehensive experimental analysis was conducted and the results were inspected under diverse aspects.The outcome of the experiments infer the enhanced performance of the proposed method over recent approaches under distinct measures.

Many structural and functional properties possessed by plants have great potentials to stimulate new concepts and innovative ideas in the field of biomimetic engineering. The key inputs from biology can be used for creation of efficient and optimized structures. The study of the geometry and folding pattern of leaves of Mimosa pudica, referred as sensitive Plant, reveals some of the peculiar characteristics during folding and unfolding. When the leaf is touched, it quickly folds its leaflets and pinnae and droops downward at the petiole attachment. With the help of experiments on simulation model, the variations in angle of leaflets and degree of compaction after folding are investigated.

Objective Recent developments in gamma spectroscopy and data processing techniques opened up the possibility of pro-viding high degrees of flexibility for different kinds of ambient,cosmic,and sample-related background suppression.The BALQARAD clover active shield is a newly acquired germanium detector that offers extraordinary and non-conventional time registers in the List File mode to optimize the setup in its different operation modes.Methods The setup’s geometry has been optimized for clover-active shield detector coincidences or anti-coincidences,depending on the details of the particular radioactive sources(^(22)Na,^(60)Co,and ^(137)Cs).The system consists of plastic scintil-lation plates that detect cosmic rays within coincidences with the clover.Results The time delay between the cosmic and clover detector was tested,and the time window of 640 ns was detected by addressing two desired prompt and delayed signals.The registered spectra were characterized by very prominent continua,obscuring low-intensity peaks of weak gamma-ray emissions.The peak-to-Compton ratio and peak-to-total ratio were greatly improved after using offline veto techniques,leading to much greater accuracy in determining the full-energy peak.Conclusion The offline coincidence method’s quick assessment points out the importance of reducing the Compton and background continua in detecting low activities and yields.This study will serve as a basis for more advanced national-level applications.It can benefit from advanced gamma detection systems with highly improved signal-to-background ratios associated with event selection techniques.

Nichel-phosphorus(Ni-P)coatings are deposited on mild steel by using an electroless plating process.The effect of three calix[4]arene derivatives,namely tetra methyl ester-P-tertbutyl calix[4]arene(Calix1),tetra acid-P-tert-butyl calix[4]arene(Calix2)and tetra methyl P-tert-butyl-thicalix[4]arene ester(Calix3)on the deposition rate,the deposit composition,and the morphological surface was investigated and the study of growth mechanisms has delivered useful information about the surface properties of deposit.It is found that these additives modify the deposition rate and the nickel crystallization process.In fact,the Calix1 and Calix3 act as an accelerator,while Calix2 acts as an inhibitor for the nickel electroless.Furthermore,it is shown that the chemical bath is more stable with calix[4]arene derivatives addition and the obtained deposits are compact and adherent.It is observed also that the nickel content increases with additives.On the other hand,the X-ray diffraction showed that the orientation peaks are intensified at{111}in the presence of Calix2,confirming obtained results of EDAX spectrum.The cyclic voltammetry revealed that the tested additives strongly influence the cathodic process and slightly affect the hypophosphite oxidation.Finally,it is found that these compounds improve the anticorrosion efficiency of Ni-P coating on the mild steel substrate in 3%(mass)NaCl,where its polarization resistance increases with Calix2 and Calix3 addition.
