The cells of origin of neurogenic heterotopic ossifications(NHOs), which develop frequently in the periarticular muscles following spinal cord injuries(sCIs) and traumatic brain injuries, remain unclear because skeletal muscle harbors two progenitor cell populations: satellite cells(sCs), which are myogenic, and fibroadipogenic progenitors(FAPs), which are mesenchymal. Lineage-tracing experiments using the Cre recombinase/Lox P system were performed in two mouse strains with the fluorescent protein Zs Green specifically expressed in either sCs or FAPs in skeletal muscles under the control of the Pax7 or Prrx1 gene promoter, respectively. These experiments demonstrate that following muscle injury, sCI causes the upregulation of PDGFRα expression on FAPs but not sCs and the failure of sCs to regenerate myofibers in the injured muscle, with reduced apoptosis and continued proliferation of muscle resident FAPs enabling their osteogenic differentiation into NHOs. No cells expressing Zs Green under the Prrx1 promoter were detected in the blood after injury, suggesting that the cells of origin of NHOs are locally derived from the injured muscle. We validated these findings using human NHO biopsies. PDGFRα+mesenchymal cells isolated from the muscle surrounding NHO biopsies could develop ectopic human bones when transplanted into immunocompromised mice, whereas CD56+myogenic cells had a much lower potential. Therefore, NHO is a pathology of the injured muscle in which sCI reprograms FAPs to undergo uncontrolled proliferation and differentiation into osteoblasts.

synthesis, spectral characterization, thermal and biological studies of lanthanide(Ⅲ) complexes of oxyphenbutazone

Lanthanide（III） complexes of 4-butyl-1-（4-hydroxyphenyl）-2-phenyl-3,5-pyrazolidinedione （OPB） were prepared by ho-mogeneous precipitation. The solid complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility data, molar conduc-tivity measurements and IR, UV-Vis, mass, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectral methods. The thermal decomposition of the complexes under static air atmosphere was investigated by simultaneous TG/DTG at a heating rate of 10 °C/min. The final decomposition prod-ucts were found to be metal oxides. The spectroscopic data suggested that OPB acted as a bidentate, mono-ionic ligand coordinating through two carbonyl oxygens of the pyrazolidinedione ring. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy, pre-exponential factor and entropy of activation for each step of the decomposition reactions were evaluated using Coats-Redfern and MacCallum-Tanner equations. The negative entropy values of the complexes indicated that the activated complexes had a more or-dered structure than the reactant and that the reactions were slower than normal. Investigations of antimicrobial activity of the com-pounds were carried out by the disk diffusion technique.

This study presents the fabrication and characterization of novel surface-type capacitive humidity sensors using vanadyl phthalocyanine（VOPc） as the active *** devices,which comprise three different thicknesses, have been fabricated using the thermal evaporation technique.A thin film of VOPc is deposited on thoroughly cleaned glass substrates with pre-patterned Ag *** capacitive effect of the samples under humidity has been investigated. Comparison of the samples with different thicknesses shows that the thinnest device seems more sensitive towards *** humidity dependent capacitance properties of the sensor make it beneficial for use in commercial hygrometers.

New scheme to trigger fusion in a compact magnetic fusion device by combining muon catalysis and alpha heating effects

The application of laser pulses with psec or shorter duration enables nonthermal efficient ultrahigh acceleration of plasma blocks with homogeneous high ion energies exceeding ion current densities of 10^(12) A cm^(-2). The effects of ultrahigh acceleration of plasma blocks with high energy proton beams are proposed for muon production in a compact magnetic fusion device. The proposed new scheme consists of an ignition fusion spark by muon catalyzed fusion(μCF) in a small mirror-like configuration where low temperature D–T plasma is trapped for a duration of 1 μs. This initial fusion spark produces sufficient alpha heating in order to initiate the fusion process in the main device. The use of a multi-fluid global particle and energy balance code allows us to follow the temporal evolution of the reaction rate of the fusion process in the device. Recent progress on the ICAN and IZEsT projects for high efficient high power and high repetition rate laser systems allows development of the proposed device for clean energy production. With the proposed approaches,experiments on fusion nuclear reactions and μCF process can be performed in magnetized plasmas in existing kJ/PW laser facilities as the GEKKO-LFEX, the PETAL and the ORION or in the near future laser facilities as the ELI-NP Romanian pillar.

Gyrokinetic simulation of low-n Alfvénic modes in tokamak HL-2A plasmas

The turbulence characteristics of plasmas with internal transport barriers in the HL-2A tokamak are analyzed by means of linear gyrokinetic simulations. It is found that turbulence is dominated by the ion temperature gradient(ITG)mode together with large-scale modes characterized by high-frequency electromagnetic fluctuation, which are destabilized by the steep ion temperature gradient in the weak magnetic shear regime. Comparison with solutions of analytical dispersion relations shows that their linear features match well with the beta-induced Alfvén eigenmode branch of the shear Alfvénic spectrum. It is further clarified that the large population of fast ions in these plasmas plays a stabilization role through the dilution mechanism in high-n ITG mode regimes.

Dear Editor,Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)accounts for 20%of all breast carcinomas and lacks a validated targeted therapy;thus,currently,cytotoxic chemotherapy is the treatment of choice[1].Compared with other breast cancer types,patientswith TNBCare younger,have larger tumors,a higher risk of metastasis,and a higher rate of recurrence[2].Among all the subtypes described by Lehmann et al.[3],mesenchymal-like and mesenchymal stem-like(MsL)subtypes had the lowest 5-year distant metastasis-free survival rates.

The use of single walled carbon nanotube-based nanoelectromechanical system(NEMs)resonator to sense the biomolecules'mass is investigated under the influence of an external ac-field.A single walled carbon nanotube(sWCNT)cantilever has been proposed and studied if the mass is attached at the tip or various intermediate *** shift of the resonant frequency and the quality factor have been investigated and show high sensitivity to the attached mass of biomolecule and its *** proposed sWCNT-based NEMs resonator is a good candidate for sensing and tracing biomolecules'mass as concentration of acetone in human exhale,resulting in a painless,correct,and simple diabetics'diagnosis.

A borehole stability study by newly designed laboratory tests on thick-walled hollow cylinders

At several mineral exploration drilling sites in Australia, weakly consolidated formations mainly consistof sand particles that are poorly bonded by cementing agents such as clay, iron oxide cement or *** formations are being encountered when drilling boreholes to the depth of up to 2 0 0 m. To studythe behaviour of these materials, thick-walled hollow cylinder （TWHC） and solid cylindrical syntheticspecimens were designed and prepared by adding Portland cement and water to sand grains. The effectsof different parameters such as water and cement contents, grain size distribution and mixture curingtime on the characteristics of the samples were studied to identify the mixture closely resembling theformation at the drilling site. The Hoek triaxia! cell was modified to allow the visual monitoring of graindebonding and borehole breakout processes during the laboratory tests. The results showed the significanceof real-time visual monitoring in determining the initiation of the borehole breakout. The sizescaleeffect study on TWHC specimens revealed that with the increasing borehole size, the ductility ofthe specimen decreases, however, the axial and lateral stiffnesses of the TWHC specimen remain *** different confining pressures the lateral strain at the initiation point of boreholebreakout is considerably lower in a larger size borehole （2 0 mm） compared to that in a smaller one（10 mm）. Also, it was observed that the level of peak strength increment in TWHC specimens decreaseswith the increasing confining pressure.
