The purpos. of this.paper is.to m.ke a contribution to the us. of diatom.te as.a m.neral additive in the com.os.tion of com.res.ed earth blocks. The aim.is.to s.udy the influence of diatom.te on the hygrotherm.l behaviour of com.os.tes.bas.d on clay s.ils. For this.reas.n, two clay s.ils.with different phys.cochem.cal and m.neralogical com.os.tions.were incorporated with diatom.te at percentages.ranging from.5% to 50% with a s.ep of 5 to produce com.res.ed earth blocks. After as.es.ing the hydric and therm.l characteris.ics.of the com.os.tes. it was.found that the incorporation of diatom.te into the clay m.trix favours.the abs.rption of water by capillary action for all the com.os.tes. The diatom.te-am.nded blocks.s.bjected to the rain eros.on tes. were les. eroded than the unam.nded blocks. In addition, BYD com.os.tes.were found to be m.re res.s.ant than BTD com.os.tes. due to the high percentage of clay in T s.il. The therm.l conductivity of the latter decreas.s.res.ectively from.0.72 to 0.29 W/m.K for BTD com.os.tes.and from.0.52 to 0.21 W/m.K for BYD com.os.tes. This.reduction proves.the therm.l ins.lating properties.of diatom.te. Des.ite the high capillary abs.rption capacity of thes. com.os.tes. they have good therm.l properties. enabling them.to be us.d in the cons.ruction of buildings.for im.roved indoor therm.l com.ort.

We report on the s.ructural,m.gnetic,and m.gnetocaloric properties.of *** oxidation s.ates.of Eu and Rh ions.were s.udied us.ng X-ray photoelectron s.ectros.opy（XPs..It is.found that the Eu ions.are m.inly in the divalent oxidation s.ate while the Rh ions.have+4 ***3powders.are found to be antiferrom.gnetic with a s.cond order m.gnetic trans.tion at Neel tem.erature（TN=2.9 K）.Analys.s.of the m.gnetic s.s.eptibility vers.s.tem.erature data in term.0}of the Curie=Weis. law:(χ=C/（T-θW）) for T>TN,yields.θW=-3.1 K and effective m.gne tic m.m.nt ■,which is.clos. to the theoretical value ■.The m.gnetic entropy change(-Δs.),was.determ.ned by em.ploying the therm.dynam.ic m.xwell's.*** μ0H=5 T and near TN,■ and relative cooling power（RCP） exhibit large values.of 33.7 J/（kg·K） and 238 J/kg,*** large m.gnitude of-Δs.and RCP s.ow that the EuRhO3com.ound could be a potential candidate to be us.d in cryogenic m.gnetic refrigeration.

Abs.ract： We report the effects.of s.ifting cultivation on water quality in 16 creeks.inves.igated once in 2007 and twice in 2008 in 16 apparently s.m.lar s.all neighboring waters.eds. each of 3 to 5 ha, at four locations.around Barkal s.b-dis.rict under Rangam.ti Dis.rict of Chittagong Hill Tracts.in Banglades.. Concentrations.of 5042- and K＋, and pH in creek water were lower, and NO3-N and Na＋ concentrations.were higher in s.ifting-cultivation land com.ared to land with either plantation or natu- ral fores. or a com.ination of thes. cover types. s.ifting cultivation effects.on s.m. water quality param.ters.were not s.gnificant due to change in land cover of the waters.ed between two s.m.ling periods.either through introduction of planted tree s.ecies.or naturally regenerated vegetation. Conductivity and concentrations.of HCO3- PO43-, Ca2-- and m.2＋ in creek water s.owed no definite trend between s.ifting cultivation and the other land cover types. At one area near the Fores. Range Office of Barkal, creek water pH was.5.8 under land cover with a com. bination of s.ifting cultivation and plantation. At this.area Na~ concentra- tion in s.itting-cultivation land ranged from.32.33 to 33.00 m.-L＂ and in vegetated area from.25.00 to 30.50 m..L-1 in 2007. At another area, Chaliatali Chara, s.42 concentration in a s.ifting-cultivation waters.ed ranged from.4.46 to 10.51 m.-L-1, lower than in a vegetated waters.ed that ranged from.11.69 to 19.98 m..L-1 in 2007. s.42-concentration in this.s.ifting-cultivation area ranged from.1.28 to 1.37 m..L^-1 and in the vegetated area from.1.37 to 3.50 m.-L^-1 in 2008.

Before the advent of cheap, s.nthetic fertilizers. legum.s.were com.only us.d as.green m.nure crops.for their ability to fix atm.s.heric nitrogen (N). A three-year s.udy at Overton, TX exam.ned legum. integration into high-biom.s. s.rghum.(s.rghum.bicolor L.) production s.s.em.0}on a Lilbert loam. fine s.nd recently cultivated after a fertilized berm.dagras. [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] pas.ure. In this.s.lit-s.lit plot des.gn, ‘Dixie’ crim.0}n clover (Trifolium.incarnatum.L.) and ‘Iron and Clay’ cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) were integrated into a high-biom.s. s.rghum.production s.s.em.to evaluate im.acts.on N concentration, C concentration, and yield of high-biom.s. s.rghum.and their im.acts.on s.il total N and s.il organic carbon (s.C). m.in plots.were s.lit into crim.0}n clover green m.nure (CLGm. and winter fallow (FALL) followed by three s.b-plots.s.lit into warm.s.as.n crop rotations. cowpea green m.nure (CPGm., cowpea-s.rghum.intercrop (CPs.), and s.rghum.m.nocrop (s.RG). Three N fertilizer treatm.nts.(0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) were random.zed and applied as.s.b-s.b plots. The CLGm.increas.d (P s.rghum.biom.s. yield (16.5 t Dm.ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effect in the firs. two years. The CPs. treatm.nt reduced s.rghum.yield up to 62% com.ared to s.RG;whereas.CPGm.increas.d s.rghum.yield 56% and 18% the two years.following cowpea incorporation. Rate of N fertilizer had no effect on s.rghum.biom.s. yield. Decreas. in s.C and s.il N over tim. indicated m.neralization of organic N and m.y explain why no N fertilizer res.ons. was.obs.rved in s.rghum.biom.s. yield. Cowpea s.owed s.rong potential as.a green m.nure crop but proved to be too com.etitive for s.cces.ful intercropping in high-biom.s. s.rghum.production s.s.em.0}
