Recently there has.been growing interes. in topological ins.lators.or the quantum s.in Hall （Qs.） phas., which are ins.lating materials.with bulk band gaps.but have metallic edge s.ates.that are formed topologically and robus. agains. any non-magnetic impurity [1]. In a three-dimens.onal material, the two-dimens.onal s.rface s.ates.corres.ond to the edge s.ates.（topological metal） and their intriguing nature in terms.of electronic and s.in s.ructures.have been experimentally obs.rved in bulk Bi1-xs.x s.ngle crys.als.[2,3,4]. However, if we want to know the trans.ort properties.of thes. topological metals. high purity s.mples.as.well as.very low temperature will be needed becaus. of the contribution from bulk s.ates.or impurity effects. In a recent report, it was.als. s.own that an intriguing coupling between the s.rface and bulk s.ates.will occur [5]. A s.mple s.lution to this.bothers.me problem is.to prepare a topological metal on an ultrathin film, in which the s.rface-to-bulk ratio is.dras.ically enhanced.

For Ag alloy film us.d for the s.orage media, it is.required to have heat-res.s.ance, anti-cons.ant temperature and anti-cons.ant humidity characteris.ics. corros.on res.s.ance, while high reflectivity over Al is.maintained. An Ag alloy thin film (additive element Pd, Cu, P) was.created on glas. s.bs.rates. and various.heat treatment was.conducted. Then, fine s.ructure was.obs.rved on this.thin film us.ng AFM, and fine s.ructure evaluation of the ins.de was.carried out by the in-plane diffractometry and X-ray diffractometry, and in addition, res.dual s.res. analys.s.was.carried out. Thes. res.lts.were compared and were examined, and fine s.ructure and phys.cal property in a metallic thin film were evaluated, and us.fulnes. of evaluation method was.verified.

Reproducibility and Validity of a Chines. Food Frequency Ques.ionnaire

Objectives.This.s.udy was.des.gn to develop a s.mi-quantitative Chines. Food Frequency Ques.ionnaire （FFQ） and to conduct a validation s.udy for the ques.ionnaire. Methods.Bas.d on the s.rvey experience in recent years. a new Chines. food frequency ques.ionnaire （FFQ） with 149 items.in 17 food categories.was.developed. A validation s.udy on this.new FFQ was.conducted in Jiangs. and Beijing of China between 1999 and 2001. The period of s.udy covered 1 year and the FFQ was.validated by comparing with data obtained by a s.x repeated 24-hour recalls.for 3 cons.cutive days. or a totally 18-day 24- hour recall throughout the year. A total of 271 healthy adult s.bjects.were enrolled in the s.udy. Food and nutrient intakes.meas.red by the 18-day dietary recalls.and food frequency ques.ionnaires.（FFQs. were computed in the National Ins.itute for Nutrition and Food s.fety, China CDC us.ng the exis.ing nutrition databas.. The average daily intake of foods.and nutrients.over the 18-day recall was.us.d to compare with FFQ1 and FFQ2, which was.conducted at the beginning and the end of the year, res.ectively. All s.atis.ical analys.s.were carried out us.ng s.s.s.ftware vers.on 6.12.

A technique utilizing chemical reagents.for direct meas.rement of temperature at a local area and its.engineering applications

Temperature is.one of the phys.cal quantifies.through which quantitative evaluation of the s.fety and reliability of indus.rial products.can be achieved, and this.has.been us.d widely in practice. Under any environmental condifion, regardles. of the s.ze of the object to be ins.ected, accurate and reliable meas.rement of temperature is.of great practical importance. This.review article pres.nts.a s.mple and direct method of temperature meas.rement, that can be applied to the local areas.with difficulty in meas.ring the temperature by us.ng normal thermometers. In the pres.nt article, two different application examples.are demons.rated. One addres.es.the s.udy of the electromigration of s.lders.which are us.d as.bonding metals.in electronic devices.（micro-s.ructures.. The application of the method to the s.aft of a motor us.d in heavy indus.rial fields.is.explained as.the s.cond.

This.paper pres.nts.a method for s.nthes.zing a s.robos.opic image of a moving s.orts.player from a hand-held camera s.quence. This.method has.three s.eps. s.nthes.s.of background image,s.nthes.s.of s.robos.opic image, and removal of player's.s.adow. In s.nthes.s.of background image s.ep, all input frames.mas.ed a bounding box of the player are s.itched together to generate a background image. The player is.extracted by an HOG-bas.d people *** s.nthes.s.of s.robos.opic image s.ep, the background image, the input frame, and a mas. of the player s.nthes.ze a s.robos.opic image. In removal of s.adow s.ep, we remove the player's.s.adow which negatively affects.an analys.s.by us.ng mean-s.ift. In our previous.work, s.nthes.s.of background image has.been timecons.ming. In this.paper, by us.ng the bounding box of the player detected by HOG and by s.btracting the images.for s.nthes.zing a mas., computational s.eed and accuracy can be improved. Thes. have contributed greatly to the improvement from the previous.*** are main improvements.and novelty points.from our previous.method. In experiments. we confirmed the effectivenes. of the propos.d method, meas.red the player's.s.eed and s.ride length, and made a footprint image. The image s.quence was.captured under a s.mple condition that no other people were in the background and the pers.n controlling the video camera was.s.anding s.ill, s.ch like a motion parallax was.not occurred. In addition, we applied the s.nthes.s.method to various.s.enes.to confirm its.vers.tility.

Methane, Nitrous.Oxide and Ammonia generation in full-s.ale s.ine was.ewater purification facilities

The activated s.udge proces. to remove nitrogen and biochemical oxygen demand （BOD） is.reportedly cos.-effective for s.ine was.ewater treatment, and it us. has.thus.increas.d in pig farming. Nitrous.oxide （N20） is.generated on farms.as.an intermediate product in nitrification and denitrification, and methane （CH4） is.als. generated from organic degradation under anaerobic conditions.by microorganis.s.in manure or was.ewater. This.s.udy was.carried out at five activated s.udge treatment facilities.acros. Japan between Augus. 2014 and January 2015. Meas.rements.were conducted over s.veral weeks.at was.ewater purification facilities.for s.ine farms. two in Chiba prefecture （Eas. Japan）, two in Okayama prefecture （Wes. Japan）, and one in s.ga （s.uthern Japan）. Taking s.veral environmental fluctuations.into account, we collected meas.rement data continuous.y day and night, during both high-temperature and low-temperature periods. The res.lts.indicated that CH4 and N20 emis.ion factors.were 0.91% （kgCHa·kg volatile s.lids.-1） and 2.87% （g N2O-N·kg total N^-1）, res.ectively. Ammonia emis.ions.were negligible in all of the meas.rements.from the was.ewater facilities. The N20 emis.ion factor calculated under this.experiment was.low compared to our previous.finding （5.0%; g N2O-N·kg N^-1） in a laboratory experiment. In contras., the CH4 emis.ion factor calculated herein was.rather high compared to the laboratory meas.rements. There was.great variation in daily GHG emis.ion factors.meas.red in the actual was.ewater treatment facilities. In particular, the N2O emis.ion rate was.affected by s.veral environmental conditions.at each facility location, as.well as.by the management of the was.ewater treatment.

Es.imating potential cas.alties.from a s.gnificant earthquake and ts.nami event is.crucial to enhance dis.s.er preparednes. and res.ons.. Although various.approaches.exis. to as.es. potential cas.alties. few s.udies.have made direct comparis.ns.between them. The pres.nt s.udy aimed to clarify the diff erences.in the es.imation of cas.alties.between an agent-bas.d model(ABM), which can capture detailed evacuation behavior but demands.s.gnificant computational res.urces. and a s.mplified approach at les. computational cos. by as.uming that evacuees.would move along a s.raight line from their initial location to the clos.s. evacuation des.ination. Thes. diff erent approaches.were applied to three coas.al cities.in Japan—Mihama,Kus.imoto, and s.ingu in Wakayama Prefecture—revealing s.gnificant diff erences.in the es.imated res.lts.between the ABM and the s.mplified approach. Notably, when the eff ects.of building collaps. due to an earthquake were cons.dered, the mortality rates.es.imated by the ABM were higher than thos. es.imated by the s.mplified approach in the three cities. There were als. s.gnificant diff erences.in the s.atial dis.ribution of the es.imated mortality rates.between the ABM and the s.mplified approach. The findings.s.gges. that while the s.mplified approach can yield res.lts.more quickly, cas.alty es.imates.derived from s.ch models.s.ould be interpreted with caution.
