Objective: The purpose of this retrospective study was to comparatively assess the severity of apical root resorption in patients treated with second premolar extraction and non-extraction treatment protocols. A further aim was to evaluate the effect of treatment duration on the degree of apical root resorption.Methods: The sample consisted of 596 teeth in 50 patients (41 females, 9 males) aged 12-22 years, with different malocclusions. The non-extraction group included 20 patients, with an initial mean age of 15.10±3.04 years and the extraction group comprised 30 patients treated with second premolar extractions, with an initial mean age of 15.07±3.08 years. Chi-square and two-sample t-tests were performed to ascertain similarity of the 2 groups. The groups were well matched in relation to initial age, sex, malocclusion types, overjet and overbite. Apical root resorption in all tooth groups, except maxillary first premolar, maxillary and mandibular second premolars and second molars, was evaluated from pre- and post treatment panoramic radiographs. The intergroup differences were analyzed with the student’s t-test and the correlation between the degree of root resorption and treatment time was investigated with the Pearson correlation coefficient.Results: The second premolar extraction group showed significantly greater apical root resorption than the non-extraction group for the maxillary and mandibular central incisors, lateral incisors and 1st molars (Ps of the extraction group did not show any statistically significant apical root resorption. Mandibular 1st premolars of the extraction group demonstrated significantly greater root resorption than the corresponding teeth of the non-extraction group (P=0.01). Pyrite Formation in Organic-rich Clay, Calcitic and Coal-Forming Environments

The early diagenetic characteristics of pyrite formation processes in a Miocene freshwater sequence of mixed sediments （coal fragments in clays, sandstones or shales） alternating with continuous brown coal layers was investigated. Based on abundant minerals, the following main sedimentary environments were distinguished： the illite-montmorillonitic （I-M）, calcitic （Ct） and coal-forming environment （CL）. For these hydrogeochemically differing environments the effects of limiting factors on the pyrite formation process （availability of sulphate and Fe, amount of organic matter and participation of organic sulphur） were assessed by correlation analysis. significant differences in the effects of these limiting factors in the particular environments were observed. These differences were explained taking in account the different oxidative activity, Fe-complex and surface complex forming properties of humic substances in dependence of pH of environment and the abundance of sorptionally active clay minerals. In environments having a relatively low pH and containing clay minerals （I-M- and CL-environments） the oxidative activity of humic substances （Hs） on pyrite precursors was greatly prevented however pyrite formation depended on reactive Fe availability as the consequence of complex formation. On the contrary, in environments with a relatively high pH, as it was the calcitic, the oxidative activity of Hs was greatly enhanced, thus oxidizing the sulfur precursors of pyrite. The oxidation degree of organic matter was probably also a consequence of the differing activity of the humic electron-acceptors.

Pregnancy outcomes following supplementation of single dose GnRH agonist to sustain the luteal phase in antagonist fresh embryo transfer cycles:A multicentric prospective cohort study

screening and molecular characterization of serratia marcescens VITsD2： A strain producing optimum serratiopeptidase

The current work was attempted to isolate and characterize the serratiopeptidase producing serratia sp. Among the 10 bacterial isolates 7 strains were identified as serratia sp. Out of 7 strains one showed potent proteolytic activity and selected for further studies. Based on the morphological, biochemical and molecular characterization, the potent isolate （RH03） was identified as serratia marcescens （GenBank accession number： KC961637） and the strain was designated as serratia marcescens VITsD2. The production of serratiopeptidase was carried out in trypticase soya broth and the enzyme was partially purified using ammonium sulfate precipitation and dialysis. The specific activity was determined by casein hydrolysis assay and was found to be 12.00, 21.33, and 25.40 units/rag for crude, precipitated and dialysed samples. The molecular weight of the protease was determined by sDs-PAGE and it was found to be 50 kDa. The antibacterial activity of the produced serratiopeptidase showed moderate activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa MTCC No. 4676 （12 mm） and Escherichia coli MTCC No. 1588 （15 mm）.

Comparative study on glutathione transferases of rat brain and testis under the stress of phenobarbitol and β-methylcholanthrene

A comparative study was made on the tissue specific expression of glutathione transferases (GsT) in brain and testis after exposure of rat to phenobarbitol (PB) and β-methylcholanthrene (MC). Glutathione transferases, a family of multifunctional proteins are involved in intracellular transport processes and in detoxication of electrophilic xenobiotics by catalyzing reactions such as conjugation, isomerization, reduction and thiolysis. On purification, the yield of GsT proteins by affinity chromatography was 39% in testis and 32% in brain. The affinity purified testis GsTs were resolved by chromatofocusing into six anionic and four cationic isozymes, and in brain glutathione transferases were resolved into four anionic and three cationic isozymes, suggesting the presence of multiple isozymes with Yc, Yb, Yβ and Yδ in both of them. In testis and brain, these isozymes at identical pI values showed variable functions with a battery of substrates and the cationic isozymes of brain and testis showed identical properties in CHP (cumene hydroperoxide) at pH values of above 7.0. substrate specificity studies and immunoblot analysis of testis and brain proteins revealed that they play a predominant role in the detoxication of phenobarbitol or β-methylcholanthrene. Expression of the isozymes in testis and brain on exposure to PB and MC indicated elevated subunit variation. In both testis and brain, Yδ of π class was expressed on PB treatment and Yc of α class and Yβ of μ class was expressed in MC treated testis and only Yc was predominantly expressed in MC treated brain. Thus these subunits expression is considered as markers for carcinogenesis and specific to chemical toxicity under phenobarbitol and β-methylcholanthrene stress.

Fermentative production of dextran using Leuconostoc spp. isolated from fermented food products

Leuconostoc spp. （Lsland LI1） isolated from sauerkraut and idli batter was selected for dextran production. To enhance the yield of dextran, effects of various parameters such as sucrose concentration, pH, temperature, incubation and inoculum percentage were analyzed. The optimum sucrose concentration for the Leuconostoc spp. （Ls1 and LI1） was found to be 15% and 25% respectively. Isolates produced maximum dextran after 20 h of incubation at 29℃ and the optimum pH was found between 8 and 8.5. The inoculum concentration of 7.5% was more favorable for the production of dextran by Leuconostoc spp. （Ls1 and LI1）. The growth kinetic parameters were studied and compared for the strains Ls1 and LI1. Mass production of dextran was carried out using a stirred tank batch reactor. FTIR analysis was done to determine the functional groups of dextran, sephadex is prepared by cross linking dextran using epichlorohydrin and the functional groups are determined by FTIR analysis.

simultaneous wireless information and power transfer(sWIPT)is recently emerging as one of the vital solutions to prolong the lifetime of energy constrained wireless sensor ***,current works on sWIPT considered only the immediate past-hop node’s RF signal as a source of energy harvesting in multi-hop Internet of things(IoT)*** case of weak radio frequency(RF)signal,the amount of harvested energy does not support for continuous ***,in this paper a new energy harvesting mechanism is proposed which considers multiple sources(Ms)such as(1)sink broadcasting energy,(2)co-channel interference,(3)neighbor nodes’RF signal,and(4)immediate past-hop node’s RF signal for energy *** such prospect,a new sWIPT architecture is proposed called hybrid sWIPT(H-sWIPT)by integrating time switching(Ts)and power splitting(Ps)***,an efficient route selection mechanism is introduced to minimize the total energy consumption of the path based on an energy cost *** validate the proposed mechanism,simulation experiments are conducted and obtained the superiority of H-sWIPT compared with existing methods in terms of average harvested ***,the effectiveness of proposed method performance is investigated through energy cost at different node density and barrier rates.

Relay-assisted wireless energy harvesting for multihop clustered IoT network

In large-scale networks such as the Internet of Things(IoT),devices seek multihop communication for longdistance communications,which considerably impacts their power ***,this study proposes an energy harvesting-enabled,relay-based communication in multihop clustered IoT networks in a bid to conserve the battery power in multihop IoT ***,this study proposes an efficient,hierarchical clustering mechanism in which entire IoT devices are clustered into two types:the closest cluster(CC)and remote clusters(RCs).Additionally,Euclidean distance is employed for the CC and fuzzy c-means for the ***,for cluster head(CH)selection,this study models a fitness function based on two metrics,namely residual energy and distance(device-to-device distance and device-to-sink distance).After CH selection,the entire clustered network is partitioned into several layers,after which a relay selection mechanism is *** every CH of the upper layer,we assign a few lower-layer CHs to function as *** relay selection mechanism is applied only for the devices in the RCs,while for devices in the CC,the CH functions as a ***,several simulation experiments are conducted to validate the proposed method’s *** results show the method’s superiority in terms of energy efficiency and optimal number of relays in comparison with the state-of-the-art methods.
