Free convection of a viscous electrically conducting liquid past a vertical stretching surface is investigated in the presence of a transverse magnetic field.Natural convection is driven by both thermal and solutal buoyancy.The original partial differential equations governing the problem are turned into a set of ordinary differential equations through a similar variables transformation.This alternate set of equations is solved through a Differential Transform Method(DTM)and the Pade approximation.The response of the considered physical system to the non-dimensional parameters accounting for the relative importance of different effects is assessed considering different situations.

Based on the current measurement of the neutron distribution radius(r_(n))of ^(208)Pb from the PrEX-2 data,we revisited the recently developed G3 and IOPB-I force parameters by fine-tuning some specific couplings within the relativistic mean-field(rMF)model.Theω-ρ-mesons coupling and theρ-meson coupling are constrained to the experimental neutron radius of^(208)Pb without compromising the bulk properties of finite nuclei and infinite nuclear matter observables.The modified parameter sets are applied to calculate the gross properties of finite nuclei such as binding energies,charge distributions,nuclear radii,pairing gaps,and single-particle energies.The root-mean-square deviations in binding energy and charge radius are estimated with respect to the available experimental data for 195 even-even nuclei,and the results compare favourably with the well-calibrated effective interactions of skyrme,Gogny and other relativistic mean-field parametrizations.The pairing gap estimations for modified G3 and IOPB-I for sn isotopes are also compared with the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculation with the Gogny(D1s)interaction.The isotopic shift and single-particle energy spacing are also calculated and compared with the experimental data for both original and modified versions of the G3 and IOPB-I parameter sets.subsequently,both the modified parameter sets are used to obtain the various infinite nuclear matter observables at saturation.In addition to these,the force parameters are adopted to calculate the properties of a high isospin asymmetry dense system such as neutron star matter and tested for validation using the constraint from GW170817 binary neutron star merger events.The tuned forces predict relatively good results for finite and infinite nuclear matter systems and the current limitation on the neutron radius from PrEX-2.A systematic analysis using these two refitted parameter sets over the nuclear chart will be communicated shortly.

Background Africa sees the surge of plague cases in recent decades,with hotspots in the Democratic republic of Congo,Madagascar,and Peru.A rodent-borne scourge,the bacterial infection known as plague is transmitted to humans via the sneaky bites of fleas,caused by Yersinia pestis.Bubonic plague has a case fatality rate of 20.8%with treatment,but in places such as Madagascar the mortality rate can increase to 40–70%without treatment.Main text Tragedy strikes in the Ambohidratrimo district as three lives are claimed by the plague outbreak and three more fight for survival in the hospitals,including one man in critical condition,from the Ambohimiadana,Antsaharasty,and Ampanotokana communes,bringing the total plague victims in the area to a grim to five.Presently,the biggest concern is the potential plague spread among humans during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.Effective disease control can be achieved through training and empowering local leaders and healthcare providers in rural areas,implementing strategies to reduce human–rodent interactions,promoting water,sanitation and hygiene practices(WAsH)practices,and carrying out robust vector,reservoir and pest control,diversified animal surveillance along with human surveillance should be done to more extensively to fill the lacunae of knowledge regarding the animal to human transmission.The lack of diagnostic laboratories equipped represents a major hurdle in the early detection of plague in rural areas.To effectively combat plague,these tests must be made more widely available.Additionally,raising awareness among the general population through various means such as campaigns,posters and social media about the signs,symptoms,prevention,and infection control during funerals would greatly decrease the number of cases.Furthermore,healthcare professionals should be trained on the latest methods of identifying cases,controlling infections and protecting themselves from the disease.Conclusions Despite being endemic to Madagascar,the outbreak’s pace is unparalleled,and it ma

The spatial distribution of bacterial communities inhabiting sediment is heterogeneous at different spatial scales,but mostly unexplored.Here,it is postulated that the heterogeneity of the bacterial community composition varies at the same scale of the heterogeneity of sediment chemical properties.The large spatial scale(km) diversity in sediment from a brackish water lagoon(Chilika Lake,India) is studied,considering the large scale physical and chemical characteristics of land cover,climate,pH,and salinity.seventy-two samples(24 stations,3 seasons:winter,rainy,and summer) of sediment from Chilika Lake were analyzed by 16 s ribosomal ribonucleic acid(rrNA) gene sequencing,and the relations with land cover and other physico-chemical paramete rs are discussed.Mo re samples were collected after a severe cyclonic storm(Phailin) passed near the lagoon in 2013,to see the impact of the tropical storm on the spatial and tempo ral distribution of bacteria in the sediment.The results demonstrate clear spatial relations between physico-chemical parameters(e.g.,salinity),land surfaces(e.g.,drainage area),and the distribution of sediment microbial communities.

Objective:To investigate the effect of Ocimum sanctum hydroalcoholic extract(OsHE)on seizure control and neuronal injury in rats with lithium-pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus(sE).Methods:sE was induced by administering lithium chloride followed by pilocarpine 24 h later.OsHE was administered either alone or in combination with valproate(VPA)3 days before sE induction until 14 days post-sE induction.seizure parameters were recorded on day 1(0-3 h),day 1-3 and day 4-14 post-sE.On day 14 post-sE,neurobehavioural tests(elevated plus maze and passive avoidance)were done followed by total antioxidant capacity,neuron-specific enolase,immunohistochemistry,and electron microscopic assessment in the hippocampus and cortex tissue.results:OsHE+VPA provided more significant seizure protection(75%)than VPA(62.5%),OsHE(62.5%),or sE control(12.5%)(overall P=0.003).The latency to stage-3/4 seizures was increased and the number of stage-3/4 seizures was reduced in all treatment groups compared to the sE control group(P=0.002 andrespectively).The OsHE+VPA group also had better memory retention than other treatment groups(Pssive avoidance test.Total antioxidant capacity level was significantly higher and neuron-specific enolase was lower in the OsHE and OsHE+VPA groups compared to the sE control group.Electron microscopic study showed significant myelin sheath damage(67.5%,Pration(51.8%,Ps of the sE control group,which were alleviated by OsHE or OsHE+VPA treatment.In immunohistochemical analysis,the OsHE,OsHE+VPA,and VPA groups had a significantly higher number of viable neurons and less neuronal loss compared to the sE control in the hippocampus(Psions:OsHE either alone or in combination with VPA shows better seizure control by preservation of neuronal echotexture and reducing oxidative stress in the hippocampus.

A planar magnetoinductive (MI) waveguide loaded rectangular microstrip patch antenna is presented and discussed. The MI waveguide consists of two planar metamaterial split squared ring resonators (ssrrs) placed in between two microstrip lines. The backward wave propagation takes place through this structure. The rectangular microstrip patch antenna is magnetically coupled to the MI waveguide. The unloaded rectangular microstrip patch antenna resonates at 37.10 GHz. When loaded with planar MI waveguide, its resonant frequency is reduced to 9.38 GHz with the bandwidth and gain of 44% and 4.16 dBi respectively. In loaded condition, the dimension of antenna is 12.50 mm × 3.70 mm (0.390 λ × 0.115 λ). The appreciable bandwidth is achieved in such a small size antenna. The pass band frequency of MI waveguide is predicted by using the theoretical model of dispersion equation. The effective medium theory is used to verify the metamaterial characteristics of ssrr. The simulated results and theoretical calculations are also presented. The results show that the proposed method can be used to design compact and high bandwidth microstrip patch antennas.

Antioxidant, anti-quorum sensing and anti-biofilm potential of ethanolic leaf extract of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica

Objective: To investigate the antioxidant and anti-infective potential of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica extract. Methods: The antioxidant potentials were determined by DPPH radical scavenging, reducing power, hydroxyl radical scavenging and total antioxidant assays. We further examined anti-quorum sensing activity and inhibition of synthesis of pathogenic factor of Chromobacterium violaceum and Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1. Bioactive compounds were determined using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis. In silico analysis was conducted to determine the binding affinity of bioactive compounds of plant extracts for the quorum sensing regulatory receptor Lasr. results: DPPH assay showed that the ethanolic extract of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica at 500 μg/mL showed (86.96 ± 4.07)% and (74.83 ± 3.47)% inhibition, respectively. Hydroxyl radical scavenging assay showed (73.17 ± 3.03)% and (62.63 ± 4.59)% activity, respectively. The ethanolic extract of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica showed high level of attenuation of quorum sensing regulated pyocyanin production. Confocal laser scanning microscopic analysis revealed that the extracts had the potential to effectively inhibit biofilm formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Molecular docking analysis showed a better binding affinity of bioactive compounds from the extracts for the structure of Lasr protein of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Conclusions: The ethanolic extracts of Phrynium capitatum and Dryptes indica possess antioxidant activity and the potential to inhibit the quorum sensing system and its regulatory virulence traits in Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1.

Management of splenic artery aneurysm associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction

BACKGrOUND: splenic artery aneurysms although rare are clinically significant in view of their propensity for spontaneous rupture and life-threatening bleeding. While portal hypertension is an important etiological factor, the majority of reported cases are secondary to cirrhosis of the liver. We report three cases of splenic artery aneurysms associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction and discuss their management. METHODs: The records of three patients of splenic artery aneurysm associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction managed from 2003 to 2010 were reviewed retrospectively. The clinical presentation, surgical treatment and outcome were analyzed. rEsULTs: The aneurysm was >3 cm in all patients. The clinical symptoms were secondary to extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (hematemesis in two, portal biliopathy in two) while the aneurysm was asymptomatic. Doppler ultrasound demonstrated aneurysms in all patients. A proximal splenorenal shunt was performed in two patients with excision of the aneurysm in one patient and ligation of the aneurysm in another one. The third patient had the splenic vein replaced by collaterals and hence underwent splenectomy with aneurysmectomy. All patients had an uneventful post-operative course. CONCLUsIONs: splenic artery aneurysms are associated with extrahepatic portal vein obstruction. surgery is the mainstay of treatment. Although technically difficult, it can be safely performed in an experienced center with minimal morbidity and good outcome.

Formulation and evaluation of novel stomach specific floating microspheres bearing famotidine for treatment of gastric ulcer and their radiographic study

Objective:To develop and characterize multiple-unit-type oral floating microsphere of famotidine to prolong gastric residence time and to target stomach ulcer.Methods:The floating microspheres were prepared by modified solvent evaporation method,Eudragil s-100 was used as polymer.Microspheres were characterized for the micromeritic properties,floating behavior,entrapment efficiency and scanning electron microscopy.The invitro release studies and floating behavior were studied in simulated gastric fluid at pH 1.2.Different drug release kinetics models were also applied for all the batches.selected formulations were also subjected for X-ray radiographic study.results:Floating microspheres were successfully prepared by modified solvent evaporation technique.Microspheres showed passable flow properties.The maximum yield of microspheres was up to(95.11±0.35)%.On the basis of optical microscopy particle size range was found to be ranging from(52.18±182.00) to(91.64±5.16) μm.scanning electron microscopy showed their spherical size,perforated smooth surface and a cavity inside microspheres.Microspheres were capable to float up to 20 h in simulated gastric fluid.X-ray radiographic studies also proved its better retention in the stomach.Conclusions:On the basis of the results,such dosage forms may be a good candidate for stomach targeting and may be dispensed in hard gelatin capsules.
