studying the causes of parasite geographic distribution is relevant to understand ecological and evolutionary processes that affect host populations as well as for species conservation. Temperature is one of the most important environmental variables affecting parasite distribution, as raising temperatures positively affect development, reproduction, and rate of transmission of both endo- and ectoparasites. In this context, it is generally accepted that, in mountains, parasite abundance decreases with elevation. However, empirical evidence on this topic is limited. In the present study, we analyzed the elevational variation of hemoparasites and ectoparasites of a lizard, Psammodromus algirus, along a 2,200-m elevational gradient in sierra Nevada （sE spain）. As pre- dicted, ectoparasite （mites, ticks, mosquitoes, and sandflies） abundance decreased with elevation. However, hemoparasite prevalence and intensity in the lizard augmented with altitude, showing a pattern contrary to their vectors （mites）. We suggest that tolerance to hemoparasites may increase with elevation as a consequence of lizards at high altitudes taking advantage of increased body condition and food availability, and reduced oxidative stress. Moreover, lizards could have been selected for higher resistance against hemoparasites at lowlands （where higher rates of replication are expected）, thus reducing hemoparasite prevalence and load. Our findings imply that, in a scen- ario of climate warming, populations of lizards at high elevation may face increased abundance of ectoparasites, accompanied with strong negative effects.

This paper presents an enhanced Root Locus diagram that consists of the representation of the phase and the magnitude of the transfer function G（s） of a system. The magnitude is represented in decibels and the phase is represented by colors. It also presents how to use it to calculate different kinds of controllers. An important characteristic of this diagram is that permits to read the phase and the gain margins directly and the imaginary axis cut represents the Bode diagram. It is also possible to put the grid with damping ratio ξ and frequency ωn.

Hydrogen （H2） appears as one of the most promising alternative forms of energy supply, as it is non-pollutant and has a high heating value. The production of H2 by non-conventional ways, such as fermentative production, depends on economic factors and the H2 yield achieved in the process. Therefore, this review summarizes the basic aspects of hydrogen production, specifically focusing on the role of the dark fermentation process, as a way to produce this gas by biological means. The different parameters affecting the production of H2 are also discussed. The existence of different hydrogen producing microorganisms with different enzymes causes the necessity to investigate the effect of the conditions under which the process is carried out. Thus, the factors influencing the fermentative process, such as pH, temperature, inoculum pretreatment, hydraulic retention time, hydrogen partial pressure and substrate composition （metal ions, nitrogen source, etc.） are summarized.

The treatment of chronic hepatitis C （CHC） is still far from optimal, particularly for those subpopulations that do not respond to the standard combination therapy with Interferon-α （IFNα） plus ribavirin. Although in some cases the use of higher doses or longer treatment periods may be effective, these approaches are generally associated with a higher incidence of adverse events, which may either lead to a reduction in patient compliance or require drug withdrawal. IFNβ could represent an interesting alternative for treating CHC patients. Controversial data about IFNβ efficacy in CHC exist, the main reason being that many results stem from pilot studies with small cohorts of patients. However, promising results have been obtained in some subgroups of patients that fail to respond to IFNα. Additionally, the good tolerability of IFNβ represents an important advantage of the drug. The rates of dropouts in controlled clinical trials, as well as the need for dose reductions or treatment discontinuation are very low. It might be worth assessing the value of IFNβ plus ribavirin in randomized studies with a larger cohort of patients, not eligible or not tolerating standard therapy, and for non-responders.

Background The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2(sARs-CoV-2)has had great effects on health systems worldwide,not only in relation to coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cases but also affecting patients with other *** ECIEN-2020 is an observational study conducted in a tertiary referral hospital in Navarra,*** describes the effects of COVID-19 pandemic and the preventive measures adopted,in pediatric admissions for non-COVID-19 *** during March-June 2020(first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in spain)are described and compared with the same quarter in 2019.A sub-analysis was performed delving into *** characteristics(age,sex,past medical history),disease characteristics(symptoms,duration of symptoms,previous consultation in Primary Care Health Center),and admission characteristics(place and average stay)were *** A 33% reduction in the number of pediatric hospital admissions was observed,decreasing from 529 hospitaliza-tions in 2019 to 353 in 2020(Ps highlights a 48% reduction in patients admitted for pulmonary *** were no significant changes in average hospital-stay,percentage of intensive care unit admissions,or in admissions for other *** of patients admitted among those seen in the emergency department rose from 5.1%in 2019 to 10.9% in 2020,whereas the total number of consultations in the emergency department decreased by 68%.Conclusion The pandemic and the measures adopted due to sARs-CoV-2 have significantly decreased pediatric admissions for non-COVID-19 diseases,especially due to a reduction in the hospitalization for respiratory diseases.
