Exploring the nonlinear piezoresistive effect of 4HSiC and developing MEMS pressure sensors for extreme environments

Microelectromechanical system(MEMS)pressure sensors based on silicon are widely used and offer the benefits of miniaturization and high ***,they cannot easily withstand high temperatures exceeding 150 ℃ because of intrinsic material ***,we proposed and executed a systematic and full-process study of Sic-based MEMS pressure sensors that operate stably from-50 to 300 ℃.First,to explore the nonlinear piezoresistive effect,the temperature coefficient of resistance(TCR)values of 4H-SiC piezoresistors were obtained from-50 to 500 ℃.A conductivity variation model based on scattering theory was established to reveal the nonlinear variation ***,a piezoresistive pressure sensor based on 4H-SiC was designed and *** sensor shows good output sensitivity(3.38 mVN/MPa),accuracy(0.56%FS)and low temperature coefficient of sensitivity(TCS)(-0.067%FS/℃)in the range of-50 to 300 ℃.In addition,the survivability of the sensor chip in extreme environments was demonstrated by its anti-corrosion capability in H_(2)SO_(4) and NaOH solutions and its radiation tolerance under 5 W ***,the sensor developed in this work has high potential to measure pressure in high-temperature and extreme environments such as are faced in geothermal energy extraction,deep well dilling,aeroengines and gas turbines.

Color Correction for Multi-view Video Using Energy Minimization of View Networks

Systems using numerous cameras are emerging in many fields due to their ease of production and reduced cost, and one of the fields where they are expected to be used more actively in the near future is in image-based rendering （IBR）. Color correction between views is necessary to use multi-view systems in IBR to make audiences feel comfortable when views are switched or when a free viewpoint video is displayed. Color correction usually involves two steps： the first is to adjust camera parameters such as gain, brightness, and aperture before capture, and the second is to modify captured videos through image processing. This paper deals with the latter, which does not need a color pattern board. The proposed method uses scale invariant feature transform （SIFT） to detect correspondences, treats RGB channels independently, calculates lookup tables with an energy-minimization approach, and corrects captured video with these tables. The experimental results reveal that this approach works well.

Corner Separations around a NACA65 Blade in a Decelerating Flow (Experimental Investigations by Five-Hole Probe and PIV)

In order to examine the fundamental characteristics of corner separation in a decelerating cascade flow,the experimental apparatus was made and separations around a NACA65 blade in a decelerating channel flow were ***-dimensional calculations show that the NACA65 cascade flow that has 45 *** turning,1.24 of solidity and 17 *** stagger angle is equivalent to the channel flow that has 14 *** stagger angle in terms of pitchwise blade *** investigation by five-hole probe shows that the accumulations of low energy fluid can be seen around the corner part and the overturning flow due to the secondary flow ***,as the periodicity of the blade wake in a pitchwise direction is comparably good,the wake of this channel flow is similar to the wake of the cascade flow for two pitch *** measurement results shows that a vortex pattern can be seen in the momentary streamline on the suction surface of the blade and in the averaged streamline on the perpendicular to both the suction surface and the endwall.

Farinose fiavonoids are associated with high freezing tolerance in fairy primrose (Primula malacoides) plants

The deposition of surface （farinose） flavonoids on aerial parts of some Primula species is a well-documented but poorly understood phenomenon. Here, we show that flavonoid deposition on the leaves and winter buds may contribute strongly to preventing freezing damage in these plants. The ice nucleation temperature of fairy primrose （Primula malacoides） leaves covered with natural flavone was approximately 6~C lower compared to those that had their flavone artificially removed. Additionally, farinose flavonoids on the leaves reduced subse- quent electrolyte leakage （EL） from the cells exposed to freezing temperatures. Interestingly, exogenous application of flavone at 4 mg/g fresh weight to P. malacoides leaves, which had the original flavone mechanically removed, restored freezing tolerance, and diminished EL from the cells to pretreatment values. Our results suggest that farinose flavonoids may function as mediators of freezing tolerance in P. malacoides, and exogenous application of flavone could be used to reduce freezing damage during sudden but predictable frost events in other plant species.

Towards long-multitemporal change detection using SVI differencing by integrated DWT ISOCLUS: a model for forest temporal dynamics mapping

Characterisation and mapping of land cover/land use within forest areas over long-multitemporal intervals is a complex *** complexity is mainly due to the location and extent of such areas and,as a consequence,to the lack of full continuous cloud-free coverage of those large regions by one single remote sensing *** order to provide improved long-multitemporal forest change detection using Landsat MSS and ETMin part of *** rainforest,and to develop a model for forest change monitoring,wavelet transforms analysis was tested against the ISOCLUS algorithm for the derivation of changes in natural forest cover,as determined using four simple ratio-based Vegetation Indices:Simple Ratio(SR),Normalised Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI),Renormalised Difference Vegetation Index(RDVI)and modified simple ratio(MSR).Based on statistical and empirical accuracy assessments,RDVI presented the optimal index for the case *** overall accuracy statistic of the wavelet derived change/no-change was used to rank the performances of the indices as:RDVI(91.68%),MSR(82.55%),NDVI(79.73%)and SR(65.34%).The integrated discrete wavelet transformISOCLUS(DWTISOCLUS)result was 42.65%higher than the independent ISOCLUS approach in mapping the change/no-change *** methodology suggested in this study presents a cost-effective and practical method to detect land-cover changes in support of decision-making for updating forest databases,and for long-term monitoring of vegetation changes from multisensor *** current research contributes to Digital Earth with regards to geo-data acquisition,data mining and representation of one forest systems.

Preharvest long-term exposure to UV-B radiation promotes fruit ripening and modifies stage-specific anthocyanin metabolism in highbush blueberry

Ultraviolet-B(UV-B)light(280–315 nm)is an important environmental signal that regulates plant development and photomorphogenesis,while also affecting the flavonoid pathway,including anthocyanin *** the effects of UV-B radiation on fruits,the effects of a short-term or postharvest irradiation on fruit quality have been well-documented,but the effects of a long-term preharvest UV-B irradiation on fruit growth and coloration remain ***,in this study,we investigated the effects of a long-term treatment involving an environmentally relevant UV-B dose on highbush blueberry(Vaccinium corymbosum)*** preharvest UV-B treatment quickly promoted fruit growth and sugar accumulation,which is not commonly observed in other fruit tree *** UV-B exposure also accelerated fruit ripening and *** dual-luciferase assay proved that in blueberries,expression of VcUFGT encoding anthocyanin biosynthesis key enzyme,is positively and negatively regulated by VcMYBA1 and VcMYBC2,*** the fruit development stage,the UV-B treatment up-regulated VcMYBPA1 expression,which increased VcUFGT expression via *** the green fruit stage,the UV-B treatment increased HY5 encoding UV receptor,which up-regulates VcMYBPA1 and down-regulates VcMYBC2,thereby promotes the accumulation of *** the other hand,excessive anthocyanin synthesis was inhibited by increased VcMYBC2 levels in mature fruits when exposed to UV-B light through HY5-independent *** conclusion,anthocyanin-related MYB activators and repressor may coordinately balance the accumulation of anthocyanins in blueberry fruits,with UV-B treatments possibly influencing their effects in a stage-specific *** potential utility of preharvest UV-B treatments for improving blueberry fruit quality is discussed herein.

In the operation of a centrifugal compressor of turbocharger, instability phenomena such as rotating stall and surge are induced at a lower flow rate close to the maximum pressure ratio. In this study, the compressed air at the exit of centrifugal compressor was re-circulated and injected to the impeller inlet by using two injection nozzles in order to suppress the surge phenomenon. The most effective circumferential position was examined to reduce the flow rate at the surge inception. Moreover, the influences of the injection on the fluctuating property of the flow field before and after the surge inception were investigated by examining the frequency of static pressure fluctuation on the wall surface and visualizing the compressor wall surface by oil-film visualization technique.

Gravitational effects on global hemodynamics in different postures:A closed-loop multiscale mathematical analysis

We present a novel methodology and strategy to predict pressures and flow rates in the global cardiovascular network in different postures varying from supine to upright. A closed-loop, multiscale mathematical model of the entire cardiovascular system (CVS) is developed through an integration of one-dimensional (1D) modeling of the large systemic arteries and veins, and zero-dimensional (0D) lumped-parameter modeling of the heart, the cardiac-pulmonary circulation, the cardiac and venous valves, as well as the microcirculation. A versatile junction model is proposed and incorporated into the 1D model to cope with splitting and/or merging flows across a multibranched junction, which is validated to be capable of estimating both subcritical and supercritical flows while ensuring the mass conservation and total pressure continuity. To model gravitational effects on global hemodynamics during postural change, a robust venous valve model is further established for the 1D venous flows and distributed throughout the entire venous network with consideration of its anatomically realistic numbers and locations. The present integrated model is proven to enable reasonable prediction of pressure and flow rate waveforms associated with cardiopulmonary circulation, systemic circulation in arteries and veins, as well as microcirculation within normal physiological ranges, particularly in mean venous pressures, which well match the in vivo measurements. Applications of the cardiovascular model at different postures demonstrate that gravity exerts remarkable influence on arterial and venous pressures, venous returns and cardiac outputs whereas venous pressures below the heart level show a specific correlation between central venous and hydrostatic pressures in right atrium and veins.

Multi-criteria technique for mapping of debris-covered and clean-ice glaciers in the Shaksgam valley using Landsat TM and ASTER GDEM

Glaciers in the Shaksgam valley provide important fresh water resources to neighbourhood livelihood. Repeated creation of the glacier inventories is important to assess glacier–climate interactions and to predict future runoff from glacierized catchments. For this study, we applied a multi-criteria technique to map the glaciers of the Shaksgam valley of China, using Landsat Thematic Mapper(Landsat TM)(2009) and Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer Global Digital Elevation Model version two(ASTER GDEM V2) data. The geomorphometric parameters slope, plan, and profile curvature were generated from ASTER GDEM. Then they were organized in similar surface groups using cluster analysis. For accurate mapping of supraglacial debris area, clustering results were combined with a thermal mask generated from the Landsat TM thermal band. The debris-free glaciers were identified using the band ratio(TM band 4/TM band 5) technique. Final vector maps of the glaciers were created using overlay tools in a geographic information system(GIS).Accuracy of the generated glacier outlines was assessed through comparison with glacier outlines based on the Second Chinese Glacier Inventory(SCGI) data and glacier outlines created from high-resolution Google Earth? images of 2009. Glacier areas derived using the proposed approach were 3% less than in the reference datasets. Furthermore, final glacier maps show satisfactory mapping results, but identification of the debris-cover glacier terminus(covered by thick debris layer) is still problematic. Therefore, manual editing was necessary to improve the final glacier maps.
