√√The electronic structures of monolayer silicenes(4 × 4 and■ ×■R13.9o) grown on Ag(111) surface are studied by scanning tunneling spectroscopy(STS) and density functional theory(DFT) calculations. While both phases have similar electronic structures around the Fermi level, significant differences are observed in the higher energy unoccupied *** DFT calculations show that the contributions of Si 3pz orbitals to the unoccupied states are different because of their different buckled configurations.

Roadside slope failure is a common problem in the Himalayan region as road construction activities disturb natural slopes. Therefore, landslide susceptibility zonation is necessary for roadside slope disaster management and planning development activities. In this study, we consider a 53-kin section of a major highway in Nepal where road services are suspended for several days in the monsoon season every year. A number of methods have been used for landslide susceptibility zonation. We employed a bivariate statistical approach for this study. Relevant thematic layer maps represent- ing various factors （e.g., slope, aspect, land use, lithology, drainage density, proximity to stream and proximity to road） that are related to landslide activity, have been prepared using Geographic Information System （GIS） techniques. A total of 277 landslides （covering a total of 29.90 km2） of various dimensions have been identified in the area. A landslide susceptibility map was prepared by overlaying a landslide inventory map with various parameter maps segmented into various relevant classes. The landslide susceptibility index was seg- mented into five zones, viz. very low, low, moderate, high and very high susceptibility. Landslide susceptibility zonation maps are useful tools for the efficient planning and management of roadside slope repair and maintenance tasks in the Himalayan region.

Some of the buildings in Aceh Province,Indonesia constructed after the 2004 earthquake and tsunami disaster were found *** vulnerable buildings were retrofitted to make them safer and child *** the Children,one of the implementing agencies,assumed that the process of retrofitting would attract interest from the communities,raise their earthquake awareness,stimulate earthquake safe construction practices,and contribute to earthquake disaster risk *** was also assumed that the retrofitting process would benefit the communities through knowledge transfer of safer construction *** assess the impact on awareness and knowledge transfer of the retrofitting work carried out by Save the Children from 2005 to 2008,a survey was carried out in 2009.A total of 104 people who were directly involved in the retrofitting/rehabilitation process were *** survey covered four districts in Aceh Province,Indonesia where schools,health facilities,and houses were *** survey results show that the respondents felt that the impact of retrofitting work on transferring knowledge in the communities was not ***,the respondents felt that the retrofitting work had a definite impact on raising awareness of disaster risks and measures for disaster risk reduction.

When the wind speed changes significantly in a permanent magnet synchronous wind power generation system,the maximum power point cannot be easily determined in a timely *** study proposes a maximum power reference signal search method based on fuzzy control,which is an improvement to the climbing search method.A neural network-based parameter regulator is proposed to address external wind speed fluctuations,where the parameters of a proportional-integral controller is adjusted to accurately monitor the maximum power point under different wind speed ***,the effectiveness of this method is verified via Simulink simulation.

In the Pearl River Delta (PRD), there is severe competition between container ports, particularly those in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, for collecting international maritime container cargo. In addition, the second phase of the Nansha terminal in Guangzhou’s port and the first phase of the Da Chang Bay container terminal in Shenzhen opened last year. Under these circumstances, there is an increasing need to quantitatively measure the impact these infrastructure investments have on regional cargo flows. The analysis should include the effects of container terminal construction, berth deepening, and access road construction. The authors have been developing a model for international cargo simulation (MICS) which can simulate the movement of cargo. The volume of origin-destination (OD) container cargo in the East Asian region was used as an input, in order to evaluate the effects of international freight transportation policies. This paper focuses on the PRD area and, by incorporating a more detailed network, evaluates the impact of several infrastructure investment projects on freight movement.

Preparation of large rylenes often needs the use of solubilizing groups along the rylene backbone,which results in the distortion of the skeleton and thus broadening of the absorption *** this work,we successfully synthesized 2,5,8,16,19,22-hexakis[2,6-bis(tri-fluoromethyl)phenyl]hexarylene(H)by using an oxidative fusion reaction of perylene trimer in 5%*** product is soluble in common organic solvents and could be purified with column ***-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the hexarylene core is not disturbed by the substituents very much and is almost *** longest absorption of H exhibits a sharp peak at 831 nm and an on-set at 875 nm in toluene with a small full-width-at-half-maximum(FWHM)of 660 cm^(-1).The molar extinction coefficient is as large as 131,000 M^(-1)cm^(-1).The substituents could not perturb the electronic properties of the hexarylene because aryl groups are perpendicular to the hexarylene core and the carbon atoms at 2,5,16,19-positions have negligible coeffi-cients on its HOMO and LUMO,estimated by theoretical *** a result,the hexarylene having less absorption at the visible light region was stable enough in solution under the LED room light for more than 1 *** strategy gives a useful guideline to establish the near-infrared materials that exhibit stability under ambient conditions.
