Soil micromorphological and physical properties after application of composts with polyethylene and biocomponent-derived polymers added during composting

Composts are considered to be one of the best soil amendments. However, the effects of composts with added polymeric materials on soil physical,hydraulic, and micromorphological properties have not been widely discussed. Changes in soil physical properties influence the numerous services that soils provide. We studied the impacts of composts with the addition of three different polymers(F1–F3) produced from polyethylene and thermoplastic corn starch on the physical, hydraulic, and micromorphological properties of two soils, a Cambic Phaeozem and a Luvic Phaeozem. Applying composts with polymers had limited or no significant effect on soil bulk density and porosity, but increased the field water capacity by 18%–82% and 3%–6% and the plant-available water content by 15%–23% and 4%–17% for the Cambic Phaeozem and Luvic Phaeozem, respectively. The application of composts with polymers had a greater effect on the Cambic Phaeozem than on the Luvic Phaeozem. It was suggested that the use of modified composts led to changes in soil physical properties and micromorphological features and this effect was dependent on the compost application rate. Composts made with the addition of composite synthetic and natural material-derived polymers during composting were found to be a composite mixture that can be successfully used in agriculture.

Fiber lasers are a paradigm of dissipative systems,which distinguish themselves from a Hamilton system where energy is ***,pulses generated in a fiber laser are always accompanied by the continuous wave(CW).Under certain hypothesis,pulses generated in a fiber laser can be considered as a soliton,a product of a Hamilton ***,all the descriptions of solitons of a fiber laser are *** of solitons and the CW from a fiber laser prevents unveiling of real nonlinear dynamics in fiber lasers,such as soliton *** behavior in a fiber laser can be represented by the state of single pulse,the state of period doubling of single pulse,the states of two pulses either tightly bound or loosely distributed,the states of three pulses,and various combinations of the above-mentioned ***,soliton distillation was proposed and numerically demonstrated based on the nonlinear Fourier transform(NFT)[*** Technol.39,2542(2021)].Solitons can be separated from the coherent CW ***,it is feasible to isolate solitons from CW background in a fiber ***,we applied the NFT to various pulses generated in a fiber laser,including single pulse,single pulse in period doubling,different double pulses,and multiple ***,with the approach of soliton distillation,the corresponding pure solitons of those pulses are *** results suggest that the NFT can be used to identify soliton dynamics excluding CW influence in a fiber laser,which paves a new way for uncovering real soliton interaction in nonlinear systems.

Automatic Feature Extraction from Ocular Images

Ocular images processing is an important task in: i) biometrics system based on retina and/or sclera images, and ii) in clinical ophthalmology diagnosis of diseases like various vascular disorders. We presents a general framework for image processing of ocular images with a particular view on feature extraction. The method uses the set of geometrical and texture features and based on the information of the complex vessel structure of the retina and sclera. The feature extraction contains the image preprocessing, locating and segmentation of the region of interest (ROI). The image processing of ROI and the feature extraction are proceeded, and then the feature vector is determined for the human recognition and ophthalmology diagnosis.

The Use of Fibula Free Flap for Reconstruction of Anterior Chest Wall Full-Thickness Defects

Reconstructions of the sternum remain a formidable challenge for the operating team. Reconstruction of the sternumdefect, regardless of the reason, should ensure the stability of the anterior chest wall, the return of acceptable respiratory parameters and the control of wounds. Stability of the chest wall can be provided by autogenous tissues or prosthetic materials. In our experience, the fibula free osteocutaneous flaps are harvested for reconstruction of the bone defect in two patients after full-thickness defect of the sternum and anterior chest wall.

Deterioration in overall health,hormonal disturbances,and erectile dysfunction(ED)contributes to limitations in sexual activity in the elderly,which is further limited by incorrect beliefs about the hazards of sexual activity in cardiac *** aimed to analyze the occurrence of ED in elderly men,their perception of the relevance of good sexual function,and their expectations of physicians.A cross-sectional study encompassed 731 patients with coronary artery disease(CAD)subjected to cardiac *** data and data on modifiable risk factors and patient expectations were *** was assessed using the IIEF-5 *** among the risk factors for ED,occurrence of ED,and patient expectations,as well as the changes in the indicators between 2012 and 2016,were *** mean age of men was 70.7±5.1 *** prevalence of ED was 93.0%.The IIEF-5 score was significantly associated with age,tobacco smoking,exercise tolerance,time to diagnosis of CAD,and treatment with calcium channel blockers and *** declared that sexual activity was overall important(47.9%)or very important(25.6%).Three hundred and sixty(49.3%)patients expected their physician to show interest in their sexual health,but the topic was addressed in only 12.5%.Over the past few years,we have observed an increase in the awareness and importance of sexual health as well as a significant increase in patients’expectations of physicians to show interest in their sexual ***’expectations of discussing and receiving treatment for ED remain an unmet medical need.

Street dust is one of the most important carriers of heavy metals(HMs)originating from natural and anthropogenic *** main purpose of the work was to identify which of Fe-bearing phases bind HMs in street *** parameters of the Fe-bearing components,mainly magnetically strong iron oxides,are used to assess the level of HM *** sequential extraction combined with magnetic methods(magnetic susceptibility,magnetization,remanent magnetization)allowed determining the metal-bearing fractions and identifying the iron forms that aremostly associated with traffic-related *** use of Mossbauer spectrometry(MS)supplemented bymagnetic methods(thermomagnetic curves and psarameters of hysteresis loops)enabled precise identification and characterization of iron-containing *** classification of HMs into five chemical fractions differing in mobility and bioaccessibility revealed that iron is most abundant(over 95%)in the residual fraction followed by the reducible *** were present in reducible fraction in the following order:Pb>Zn>Mn>Cr>Ni>Fe>Cu,while they bound to the residual fraction in the following order:Fe>Ni>Cr>Mn>Pb>Cu>*** signature of the anthropogenic origin of street dust is the presence of strongly nonstoichiometric and defected grains of magnetite and their porous *** also occurs as an admixture with maghemite,and with a significant proportion of hematite.A distinctive feature of street dust is the presence of metallic iron and iron *** methods are efficient in the screening test to determine the level ofHMpollution,while MS helps to identify the iron-bearing minerals through the detection of iron.
