Longitudinal Evaluation Nocturnal Sleep Behaviors of Healthy and Well Developed Children Born Prematurely

The aim of the study is to examine nocturnal sleep measures of healthy and well developed pre-term infants by birth weight when they were averaged 15 corrected months and became elementary school children. Sleep measures were collected by actigraphs (Micro-mini RC, Ambulatory Monitoring Inc., New York, USA). Nocturnal sleep quality of children born as extremely low birth weight (ELBW) was significantly inferior with that of children born as very low birth weight (VLBW) at 15 corrected months [number of night waking: 6.0 (4.5 - 8.0), ELBW 8.5 (7.0 - 10.3) (Z = 2.47, p < 0.01), wake after sleep onset: VLBW 99.0 (73.0 - 115.0) min, ELBW 146.5 (94.8 - 171.3) min (Z = 2.89, p < 0.01)]. However, these measures did not show any significant differences by birth weight at second data collection period [number of night waking: VLBW 0.0 (0.0-1.0), ELBW 1.0 (0.0 - 2.5) (Z = —0.62, n.s.), wake after sleep onset: VLBW 16.0 (8.0 - 27.0) min, ELBW 15.0 (6.0 - 32.5) min (Z = 0.00, n.s.)]. It was assumed that nocturnal measures were affected by the birth weight at the age of 15 corrected months in ELBW infants, but could not predict the future sleep problems at this point.

Background and Objectives:One major source of antibiotic contamination in the sea is from *** monitored the concentration of commonly used antibiotic classes and antibiotic resistance genes(tet(M),sul1,sul2 and sul3)in aquaculture farms in Peninsular ***:Antibiotic residues and resistance genes were quantified using high-performance liquid chromatography and real-time PCR *** quotients in European technical guidance document on risk assessment was used to assess the potential environmental ***:We detected 23 antibiotics with tetracyclines,sulfonamides and quinolones were the most frequently detected classes,indicating a wide distribution of antibiotics in Malaysian aquaculture *** dendrogram and heatmap revealed three groups of antibiotic concentration patterns but with no differences in the types of antibiotics usage among aquaculture *** ARGs(10^(−3)copies/16S)were detected in>90%of the sites except for ***,enrofloxacin,norfloxacin and lincomycin posed risks to cyanobacteria and algae in Kelantan,Perak and ***:Relative to Asian aquaculture farms,the residues detected here were at low or moderate levels except for *** study will be useful to develop effective management of aquaculture wastewater in order to mitigate antibiotic pollution and transmission of ARGs to humans through the food chain.

Acute exacerbations of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF) is a severe respiratory condition with high mortality rate. Direct hemoperfusion with polymyxin B-immobilized fiber columns(PMX-DHP) was originally introduced for the treatment of septic shock. Application of PMX-DHP to the treatment of acute exacerbations of IPF may improve oxygenation and survival of the patients with the disease. In addition to acute exacerbations of IPF, PMXDHP has been applied to acute respiratory failure fromvarious causes; an amyopathic dermatomyositis patient who developed rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease(ILD) with elevated anti-CADM-140/MDA5 autoantibody and a patient with severe amiodarone pulmonary toxicity. It is also demonstrated that PMX-DHP performed on the first day of steroid pulse therapy may improve the prognosis of patients with rapidly progressive ILDs in a case-control setting. PMX treatment decreases not only various circulating molecules but also inflammatory cells, in particular activated monocytes, producing such mediators. Although the incidence of acute exacerbations of IPF is too low for proper randomization, in order to test the effects of PMX-DHP on the disease, a cohort or casecontrol analytic study needs to be conducted, preferably from more than one center or research group.

A siliconizing process to manufacture 6.5% Si steel sheet has been developed. Electric components, such as transformers and reactors are made easily from 6.5% Si steel sheet. However, improved workability is desirable to increase the applications. Therefore the improvement of workability of 6.5% Si steel sheet was investigated, and the results were obtained as follows: (a) workability of 6.5% Si steel sheet is deteriorated by grain boundary oxidization, (b) grain boundary oxidization can be restrained by the addition of C. Workability and magnetic properties of 6.5% Si steel sheet with C addition are discussed. Furthermore, it was found that the workability of high Si steel sheet was improved remarkably by varying the Si content gradient along the thickness without deterioration of high frequency magnetic properties. This newly developed magnetic gradient high Si steel sheet is also discussed.

Immunoglobulin G4-related sclerosing cholangitis(Ig G4-SC) is frequently associated with type 1 autoimmune pancreatitis(AIP). Association with AIP can be utilized in the diagnosis of Ig G4-SC. However, some cases of Ig G4-SC are isolated from AIP, which complicates the diagnosis. Most of the reported cases of isolated Ig G4-SC displayed hilar biliary strictures, whereas isolated Ig G4-SC with intrapancreatic biliary stricture is very rare. Recently, we have encountered 5 isolated intrapancreatic Ig G4-SC cases that were not associated with AIP, three of which were pathologically investigated after surgical operation. They all were males with a mean age of 74.2 years. The pancreas was not enlarged in any of these cases. No irregular narrowing of the main pancreatic duct was found. Bile duct wall thickening in lesions without luminal stenosis was detected by abdominal computed tomography in all five cases, by endoscopic ultrasonography in two out of four cases and by intraductal ultrasonography in all three cases. In three cases, serum Ig G4 levels were within the normal limits. The mean serum Ig G4 level measured before surgery was 202.1 mg/d L(4 cases). Isolated intrapancreatic Ig G4-SC is difficult to diagnose, especially if the Ig G4 level remains normal. Thus, this type of Ig G4-SC should be suspected in addition to cholangiocarcinoma and pancreatic cancer if stenosis of intrapancreatic bile duct is present.

Numerous landslides occurred in hilly and mountainous areas during the 2004 Niigata-ken Chuetsu Earthquake. Social problems developed when many towns became isolated because landslides cut offtraffic and public service lifelines. The hilly areas are composed mainly alternate layer of soft sandstone and mudstone deposited in quaternary or tertiary period. This geomorphology formed by folding presents a prominent landslide area in this region. This area has been utilized as rice terraces or carp breeding ponds because of plenty of water in the ground all the time. In addition, there was rainfall of more than 100 mm caused by Typhoon No. 23 two days before the earthquake in Chuetsu area. Block samples were extracted from the failure sites. The samples obtained were mainly low-cemented sandy soils. Triaxial tests of the samples under saturated and unsaturated conditions were conducted to examine the soils＇ strength properties and estimate the indices for slope stability.

An electrogastrogram （EGG） is a recording of the electrical activity in the stomach, as measured on the abdominal surface. In this study, the goal is to obtain a mathematical model of an EGG; to achieve this, the EGG of 14 subjects （seven males and seven females） will be obtained. Initially, the Wayland algorithm to the EGG to measure the degree of determinism is applied. However, it could not be determined whether the EGG could be generated by a chaotic process. In addition, the waveform of the electric potential in the interstitial cells of Cajal is similar to the graphs of the numerical solutions to the Van der Pol equation. Therefore, the Van der Pol equation to a periodic function was added, and random white noise was used to represent the intestinal motility and other biosignals. The EGG and numerical solutions were compared and evaluated on the basis of the translation error （Etrans） in the Wayland algorithm and the maximum Lyapunov exponent （2） in Rosenstein＇s algorithm. By projecting the data from an obtained stationary EGG from the subjects, along with the numerical solutions, onto the Etrans-λ plane, the affinity between them was qualitatively evaluated. The EGG was well described by stochastic resonance from the stochastic differential equations.

Analysis of Electrogastrograms of Elderly Gastrectomized Subjects by Using Maximum Lyapunov Exponent

Not much data are available regarding the electrical activity in the stomachs and intestines of elderly gastrectomized patients The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of using a complex dynamic method to analyze the electrogastrograms （EGGs） of healthy young, healthy elderly, and gastrectomized elderly male individuals. The authors analyzed the EGGs by using the maximum Lyapunov exponent （MLE）, which is one of the indices of the chaotic characteristics of time series. Significant differences were observed between the MLEs estimated from the, EGGs of the young and elderly individuals for most of the temporal intervals. The authors＇ data indicate that the EGGs of elderly gastrectomized subjects might be distinguished from the EGGs of healthy elderly individuals on the basis of the MLE distribution.
