modeling and predicting dengue fever cases in key regions of the Philippines using remote sensing data

Objective: To correlate climatic and environmental factors such as land surface temperature, rainfall, humidity and normalized difference vegetation index with the incidence of dengue to develop prediction models for the Philippines using remote-sensing ***: Timeseries analysis was performed using dengue cases in four regions of the Philippines and monthly climatic variables extracted from Global Satellite mapping of Precipitation for rainfall, and mODIS for the land surface temperature and normalized difference vegetation index from *** dataset during the period of study was utilized in Autoregressive Integrated moving Average models to predict dengue incidence in the four regions being ***: The best-fitting models were selected to characterize the relationship between dengue incidence and climate *** predicted cases of dengue for January to December 2015 period fitted well with the actual dengue cases of the same *** also showed significantly good linear regression with a square of correlation of 0.869 5 for the four regions ***: Climatic and environmental variables are positively associated with dengue incidence and suit best as predictor factors using Autoregressive Integrated moving Average *** finding could be a meaningful tool in developing an early warning model based on weather forecasts to deliver effective public health prevention and mitigation programs.

The lithium sulfur batteries(LSBs) are considered as one of the promising next generation energy storage devices due to the high theoretical specific capacity of sulfur(1675 m Ah g-1), naturally available, low ***, the practical LSBs are impeded by the well-known "shuttle effect" combined with other technical drawbacks. The "shuttle effect" causes rapid capacity decay, severe self-discharging and low active material utilization. The polysulfide(PS) which has lone pair electrons in each sulfur atom is considered as Lewis base and shows strong affinity to various polar, Lewis acid and catenation interactive materials but very weakly interacts with the non-polar conductive carbons. The "shuttle effect" occurs due to the diffusion of high order PS from the cathode to the anode and then low-order PS back to the cathode. The PS is polar and, due to a lone pair of electrons associated with the sulfur atom, is considered a Lewis base. As such, the PS shows a strong affinity with various polar and Lewis acid materials. In addition, a more novel trapping can be performance through a catenation reaction. For LSBs to compete with the state-of-the-art lithium ion batteries(LIBs), the LSB areal capacity need to be ~6 m Ah cm-2(which is proportional to sulfur loading). To achieve this target the PS shuttling needs to mitigate, which can be achieved through using functional materials. This review addresses the aforementioned phenomena by considering the PS phase interacts with the various functional materials and how this impacts areal capacity and cycling stability of LSBs.

This paper attempts to address connections between the Chinese model for development or the“Beijing Consensus”and Chinese *** universities seem to be caught between serving governmental agendas and pursuing their own goals as an academic *** until recently,they had become used to following the lead of the government,which often comes with rationales and approaches featuring pragmatism and *** on the perspectives of social embeddedness and external control of organizations in higher education,we argue that the lack of dynamism and innovation that is hindering Chinese higher education’s development is largely owing to the political,social,and cultural factors prevailing in the environment in which the universities *** in another way,Chinese universities are confronting a crisis,owing to the inbuilt constraints of China’s development model.

Predictability of South China Sea Summer monsoon Onset

Predicting monsoon onset is crucial for agriculture and socioeconomic planning in countries where millions rely on the timely arrival of monsoon rains for their livelihoods. In this study we demonstrate useful skill in predicting year-to-year variations in South China Sea summer monsoon onset at up to a three-month lead time using the GloSea5 seasonal forecasting system. The main source of predictability comes from skillful prediction of Pacific sea surface temperatures associated with El Ni?no and La Ni?na. The South China Sea summer monsoon onset is a known indicator of the broadscale seasonal transition that represents the first stage of the onset of the Asian summer monsoon as a whole. Subsequent development of rainfall across East Asia is influenced by subseasonal variability and synoptic events that reduce predictability, but interannual variability in the broadscale monsoon onset for East Asian summer monsoon still provides potentially useful information for users about possible delays or early occurrence of the onset of rainfall over East Asia.

Tissue engineering response may be tailored via controlled,sustained release of active agents from protein-loaded degradable microparticles incorporated directly within three-dimensional(3D)ice-templated collagen ***,the effects of covalent crosslinking during scaffold preparation on the availability and release of protein from the incorporated microparticles have not been ***,we load 3D ice-templated collagen scaffolds with controlled additions of poly-(DL-lactide-co-glycolide)*** probe the effects of subsequent N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N0-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride crosslinking on protein release,using microparticles with different internal protein *** isothiocyanate labelled bovine serum albumin is used as a model protein *** scaffolds display a homogeneous microparticle distribution,and a reduction in pore size and percolation diameter with increased microparticle addition,although these values did not fall below those reported as necessary for cell *** protein distribution within the microparticles,near the surface or more deeply located within the microparticles,was important in determining the release profile and effect of crosslinking,as the surface was affected by the carbodiimide crosslinking reaction applied to the *** of microparticles with a high proportion of protein at the surface caused both a reduction and delay in protein *** located within the bulk of the microparticles,was protected from the crosslinking reaction and no delay in the overall release profile was seen.

Long-term irritable bowel syndrome symptom control with reintroduction of selected FODmAPs

To investigate the long-term effect of dietary education on a low fermentable oligosaccharide, disaccharide and polyol (FODmAP) diet on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms and quality of life (QoL). mETHODSParticipants with IBS (Rome III) were randomized to two groups. Group I commenced a low FODmAP diet at baseline. At three months, group II, so far a comparator group, crossed over to a low FODmAP diet while group I started re-challenging foods. All patients completed the IBS SSS (IBS symptom severity scoring system, 0-500 points increasing with severity), IBS QoL questionnaire (0-100 increasing with QoL), a FODmAP specific food frequency questionnaire and provided a stool sample at baseline, three and six months for microbiome analysis. RESULTSFifty participants were enrolled into group I (n = 23) or group II (n = 27). Participants in both groups were similar in baseline values but with more men in group I. There was a significantly lower IBS SSS (275.6 ± 63.6 to 128.8 ± 82.5 vs 246.8 ± 71.1 to 203.6 ± 70.1) (P mo. The reduced IBS SSS was sustained at 6 mo in group I (160 ± 102) and replicated in group II (124 ± 76). Fiber intake decreased on the low FODmAP diet (33 ± 17 g/d to 21 ± 8 g/d) (P mAP containing foods increased again to 27 ± 9 g/d. There was no change seen in the intestinal microbiome when participants adopted a low FODmAP diet. CONCLUSIONThis study demonstrated that a reduction in FODmAPs improves symptoms in IBS and this improvement can be maintained while reintroducing FODmAPs.

X-ray micro-computed tomography(μ-CT)can be used to provide both qualitative and quantitative information on the structure of three-dimensional(3D)bioactive *** performed in a dry state,μ-CT accurately reflects the structure of collagen-based scaffolds,but imaging in a wet state offers challenges with *** we have used phosphotungstic acid(PTA)as a contrast agent to visualise fully hydrated collagen scaffolds in a physiologically relevant environment.A systematic investigation was performed to understand the effects of PTA on the results of μ-CT imaging by varying sample processing variables such as crosslinking density,hydration medium and staining *** samples in 0.3% PTA solution overnight completely stained the samples and the treatment provided a successful route forμ-CT analysis of crosslinked ***,significant structural artefacts were observed for samples which were either non-crosslinked or had low levels of crosslinking,which had a heterogeneous interior architecture with collapsed pores at the scaffold *** work highlights the importance of optimising the choice of processing and staining conditions to ensure accurate visualisation for hydrated 3D collagen scaffolds in an aqueous medium.
