Pd cluster decorated free standing flexible cathode for high performance Li-oxygen batteries

As a promising candidate for the next generation energy storage system,rechargeable lithium-oxygen batteries(LOBs)still face substantial challenges caused by insulating discharge products that preclude their practical application.Exploring highly efficient cathode catalysts capable of facilitating formation/decomposition of discharge products is considered as an essential approach towards high performance LOBs.Herein,Pd decorated Te nanowires(Pd@Te NWs)were synthesized as advanced catalyst in LOBs to maximize Pd utilization and achieve synergistic effect,in which Pd clusters were uniformly grown on Te substrate though regulating the Pd:Te ratio.Meanwhile,Pd@Te nanowires assembled into an interpenetrating network-like structure by vacuum filtration and employed as flexible cathode,enabling LOBs achieved an ultralong 190 cycles stability and a superior specific capacity of 3.35 mAh·cm^(-2).Experimental studies and density functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal the excellent catalytic ability of Pd@Te and synergistic catalytic mechanism of Pd and Te,in which uniform electron distribution,extensive electron exchange,and large adsorption distance between Pd cluster and discharge products promote homogeneous adsorption/desorption of discharge products,while the high adsorption energy of Te substrate for Li species reduces the initial dynamical energy barrier during discharging process.The current work provides viable strategy to design composite catalysts for flexible cathode of LOBs with synergistic catalytic effects.

TBBPA rather than its main derivatives enhanced growth of endometrial cancer via p53 ubiquitination

Tetrabromobisphenol A(TBBPA)and its derivatives widely exist in various environments and biota.Although the available data indicate that TBBPA exposure is highly associated with the increased incidence of endometrial cancer(EC),the effects of TBBPA and its main derivatives on EC proliferation and the involved crucial mechanism remain unclear.The present study aimed to investigate the effects of TBBPA and its derivatives under environmental concentrations on the proliferation of EC,and the crucial mechanism on the progression of EC caused by bromine fame retardants exposure.In this research,TBBPA and two of the most common TBBPA derivatives including TBBPA bis(2-hydroxyethyl ether)(TBBPABHEE)and TBBPA bis(dibromopropyl ether)(TBBPA-BDBPE)were screened for their capacities in induced EC proliferation and explored the related mechanism by in vitro cell culture model and in vivo mice model.Under environmental concentrations,TBBPA promoted the proliferation of EC,the main derivatives of TBBPA(TBBPA-BHEE and TBBPA-BDBPE)did not present the similar facilitation effects.The ubiquitination degradation of p53 was crucial in TBBPA induced EC proliferation,which resulted in the increase of downstream cell cycle and decrease of apoptosis.The further molecular docking result suggested the high affinity between TBBPA and ubiquitinated proteasome.This finding revealed the effects of TBBPA and its derivatives on EC proliferation,thus providing novel insights into the underlying mechanisms of TBBPA-caused EC.

Lanthanide complex-based materials with magnetic and luminescent properties have received a great deal of attention,owing to their importantly potential applications in diverse fields.In this work,the 9-anthracenecarboxylic acid(9-Haca)as bridging ligand was applied in combination with optically activeπ-conjugated 2,4,6-tri(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine(tptz)to construct a series of new di-nuclear and tetranuclear lanthanide 9-anthracenecarboxylates[La_(2)(9-aca)_(6)(tptz)_(2)(μ-H_(2)O)]·0.25H_(2)O(1),[Ln_(2)(9-aca)_(6)(tptz)_(2)(H_(2)O)_(2)]·0.5AQ·CH_(3)COOH_(2)H_(2)O[Ln=Sm(2a),Eu(2b),Gd(2c),Tb(2d),Dy(2e),Tm(2f);AQ=9,10-anthracenedione]and[Ln_(4)(9-aca)_(10)(tptz)_(2)(CH3COO)2]·H_(2)O[Ln=Eu(3a),Gd(3b),Dy(3c)].1 displays a di-nuclear centrosymmetric moiety[La_(2)(9-aca)_(6)(tptz)_(2)(μ-H_(2)O)]built up from two complex[La(9-aca)_(2)(tptz)]groups bridged by one H_(2)O molecule and two syn-syn-μ2-η1:η1-9-aca-bridging ligands,while 2a-2f are isostructural and co mprise another di-nuclear centrosymmetric moieties[Ln_(2)(9-aca)_(6)(tptz)_(2)(H_(2)O)_(2)]based on two complex[Ln(9-aca)_(2)(tptz)(H_(2)O)]groups connected by two syn-syn-μ2-η1:η1-9-aca-bridging ligands,3a-3c are isostructural and show tetra-nuclear centro symmetric moieties[Ln4(9-aca)10(tptz)2(CH3COO)2]containing three types of coordination modes of 9-aca-ligands.The present compounds offer the only examples of lanthanide 9-anthracenecarboxylates decorated by optically active tptz.Magnetic investigations of 2a,2c-2f,and 3b-3c indicate that 3c is typical of slow relaxation of the magnetization,while 2c and 3b show significant magnetocaloric effect(MCE)with the value of-ΔSm of 5.26 J/(kg·K)at 4 K and 15.65 J/(kg·K)at 2 K(ΔH=7 T),respectively.The luminescent properties were also studied and reveal that the characteristic luminescent properties of the 7r-conjugated aromatic ligands are introduced into magnetic lanthanide 9-anthracenecarboxylates,simultaneously exhibiting slow magnetic relaxation(or MCE)and luminescent properties.

The modulatory effect of oolong tea polyphenols on intestinal flora and hypothalamus gene expression in a circadian rhythm disturbance mouse model

The interaction between host circadian rhythm and gut microbes through the gut-brain axis provides new clues for tea polyphenols to improve host health.Our present research showed that oolong tea polyphenols(OTP)improved the structural disorder of the intestinal flora caused by continuous darkness,thereby modulating the production of metabolites related to pyruvate metabolism,glycolysis/gluconeogenesis,and tryptophan metabolism to alleviate the steady-state imbalance.After fecal microbiota transplantation from the OTP group,the single-cell transcriptomic analysis revealed that OTP significantly increased the number of hypothalamus cell clusters,up-regulated the number of astrocytes and fibroblasts,and enhanced the expression of circadian rhythm genes Cry2,Per3,Bhlhe41,Nr1d1,Nr1d2,Dbp and Rorb in hypothalamic cells.Our results confirmed that OTP can actively improve the intestinal environmental state as well as internal/peripheral circadian rhythm disorders and cognitive impairment,with potential prebiotic functional characteristics to notably contribute to host health.

Energy-efficient data collection for UAV-assisted IoT: Joint trajectory and resource optimization

Internet of Things(IoT) can be conveniently deployed while empowering various applications, where the IoT nodes can form clusters to finish certain missions collectively. As energyefficient operations are critical to prolong the lifetime of the energy-constrained IoT devices, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) can be dispatched to geographically approach the IoT clusters towards energy-efficient IoT transmissions. This paper intends to maximize the system energy efficiency by considering both the IoT transmission energy and UAV propulsion energy, where the UAV trajectory and IoT communication resources are jointly optimized. By applying largesystem analysis and Dinkelbach method, the original fractional optimization is approximated and reformulated in the form of subtraction, and further a block coordinate descent framework is employed to update the UAV trajectory and IoT communication resources iteratively. Extensive simulation results are provided to corroborate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Impact of short-term ambient air pollution exposure on the risk of severe COVID-19

Ecological studies suggested a link between air pollution and severe COVID-19 outcomes,while studies accounting for individual-level characteristics are limited.In the present study,we aimed to investigate the impact of short-term ambient air pollution exposure on disease severity among a cohort of 569 laboratory confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted to designated hospitals in Zhejiang province,China,from January 17 to March 3,2020,and elucidate the possible biological processes involved using transcriptomics.Compared with mild cases,severe cases had higher proportion of medical conditions as well as unfavorable results in most of the laboratory tests,and manifested higher air pollution exposure levels.Higher exposure to air pollutants was associated with increased risk of severe COVID-19 with odds ratio(OR)of 1.89(95%confidence interval(CI):1.01,3.53),2.35(95%CI:1.20,4.61),2.87(95%CI:1.68,4.91),and 2.01(95%CI:1.10,3.69)for PM_(2.5),PM_(10),NO_(2)and CO,respectively.OR for NO_(2)remained significant in two-pollutant models after adjusting for other pollutants.Transcriptional analysis showed 884 differentially expressed genes which mainly were enriched in virus clearance related biological processes between patients with high and low NO_(2)exposure levels,indicating that compromised immune response might be a potential underlying mechanistic pathway.These findings highlight the impact of shortterm air pollution exposure,particularly for NO_(2),on COVID-19 severity,and emphasize the significance in mitigating the COVID-19 burden of commitments to improve air quality.

Effects of long-term partial substitution of inorganic fertilizer with pig manure and/or straw on nitrogen fractions and microbiological properties in greenhouse vegetable soils

Partial substitution of inorganic fertilizers with organic amendments is an important agricultural management practice.An 11-year field experiment(22 cropping periods)was carried out to analyze the impacts of different partial substitution treatments on crop yields and the transformation of nitrogen fractions in greenhouse vegetable soil.Four treatments with equal N,P_(2)O_(5),and K_(2)O inputs were selected,including complete inorganic fertilizer N(CN),50%inorganic fertilizer N plus 50%pig manure N(CPN),50%inorganic fertilizer N plus 25%pig manure N and 25%corn straw N(CPSN),and 50%inorganic fertilizer N plus 50%corn straw N(CSN).Organic substitution treatments tended to increase crop yields since the 6th cropping period compared to the CN treatment.From the 8th to the 22nd cropping periods,the highest yields were observed in the CPSN treatment where yields were 7.5-11.1%greater than in CN treatment.After 11-year fertilization,compared to CN,organic substitution treatments significantly increased the concentrations of NO_(3)^(-)-N,NH_(4)^(+)-N,acid hydrolysis ammonium-N(AHAN),amino acid-N(AAN),amino sugar-N(ASN),and acid hydrolysis unknown-N(AHUN)in soil by 45.0-69.4,32.8-58.1,49.3-66.6,62.0-69.5,34.5-100.3,and 109.2-172.9%,respectively.Redundancy analysis indicated that soil C/N and OC concentration significantly affected the distribution of N fractions.The highest concentrations of NO_(3)^(-)-N,AHAN,AAN,AHUN were found in the CPSN treatment.Organic substitution treatments increased the activities ofβ-glucosidase,β-cellobiosidase,N-acetyl-glucosamidase,L-aminopeptidase,and phosphatase in the soil.Organic substitution treatments reduced vector length and increased vector angle,indicating alleviation of constraints of C and N on soil microorganisms.Organic substitution treatments increased the total concentrations of phospholipid fatty acids(PLFAs)in the soil by 109.9-205.3%,and increased the relative abundance of G^(+)bacteria and fungi taxa,but decreased the relative abundance of G-bacteria,total bacteria,and a

Thermal insulating and fire-retardant Si_(3)N_(4) nanowire membranes resistant to high temperatures up to 1300℃

Superior thermal insulating and fire-retardant ceramic membranes are urgently demanded in the aerospace,construction,and chemical engineering industries.However,the generic characteristics of ceramic membranes,such as brittleness,structural collapse,and crystallization-induced pulverization behavior,present a great plague to their practical applications.Herein,we report a highly flexible,mechanically stable,fire-retardant,and high-temperature-resistant ceramic membrane based on the interlocked Si_(3)N_(4) nanowires formed by the precursor pyrolysis method.The Si_(3)N_(4) nanowire membrane(SNM)has excellent high-temperature resistance under alcohol lamps and butane spray lance.The thermal insulation with a thermal conductivity as low as 0.056 W m^(-1)K^(-1)can be attributed to the high porosity of SNM,which makes it a desirable candidate for heat insulators under harsh conditions.More importantly,SNM exhibits thermal stability and robust mechanical properties in the range of 25 to 1300℃.The high-temperature resistance of SNM up to 1300℃is achieved by the four stages:Si3 N4 nanowires,Si_(3)N_(4)@SiO_(2) nanowires,SiO_(2) nanowires,and bead-like SiO_(2) nanowires.After heat-treated at 1300℃,the macroscopic size of SNM does not change significantly,and the interlocked structure is still maintained.Furthermore,SNM still maintains excellent mechanical properties,with tensile strength as high as 0.26 MPa.This work provides a facile method for fabricating excellent thermal insulating and fire-retardant ceramic membranes,showing prospective application prospects in the era of thermal insulating materials.

Outage-driven link selection for secure buffer-aided networks

In this paper, we investigate secure communication in a two-hop wireless network, where multiple buffer-aided relays assist to securely forward data from the sender to the destination threatened by a passive eavesdropper. To satisfy the security and delay requirements, we propose a novel link selection policy without the instantaneous wiretap channel state information. Different from the most current link selection policies,the proposed link selection policy is designed by joint considering the link secrecy outage probability and the buffer states. To evaluate the secrecy performance, we first characterize the system state transition matrix and the stationary state probability, and then derive the closed-form expressions for the secrecy outage probability and the secrecy rate. Moreover, we formulate a framework based on the queuing theory to analyze the end-to-end information delay at the source, the relays, and the queues, and derive the closed-form expression for the information delay. Finally, we conduct simulations to validate our theoretical performance analysis, and verify the performance improvement of the proposed outage-driven secure transmission scheme in terms of secrecy outage probability and information delay.

Genome-wide identification and characterization of basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors in Spodoptera litura upon pathogen infection

Basic helix-loop-helix(bHLH)transcription factors play an important role in a wide range of metabolic and developmental processes in eukaryotes,and bHLH proteins also participate in immune responses,especially in plants.However,their roles in insects upon entomopathogen infection are unknown.In this study,54 bHLH genes in 41 families were identified in a polyphagous pest,Spodoptera litura,including a new bHLH gene in group B,which is specifically present in Lepidoptera and was thus named Lep.The conserved amino acids in the bHLH domain,structural architecture,and chromosomal distribution of bHLH genes in S.litura were analyzed.The bHLH genes in Plutella xylostella and Apis mellifera were also updated,and genome-wide comparison and phylogenetic analysis of bHLH members in 5 holometabolous insects were performed.The expression profiles of S.litura bHLH(SlbHLH)genes in 3 tissues at different developmental stages and their responses to S.litura nucleopolyhedrovirus(SpltNPV),Nomuraea rileyi(Nr),and Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)infection were investigated.More SlbHLHs in group B were expressed and differentially expressed during pathogen infections,and SlbHLHs tended to be downregulated in the midgut of S.litura larvae after B.thuringiensis treatment.Our study provides an overview of bHLH family members in S.litura and their responses to different pathogens used for pest biocontrol.These findings on bHLH members may contribute to uncovering the mechanism of host-pathogen interaction.
