Patients with late-stage cancer commonly have distant lymph node metastasis;however,poor health often contraindicates surgical treatment.Although the quality of life and overall survival for these patients are low,there is neither a consensus nor a guide for treatment.Ablation technique and surrounding tissue damage are two possible reasons for limited study of radiofrequency ablation in patients with superficial distant lymph node metastasis.Here,we report two patients treated successfully with ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation for superficial distant lymph node metastasis.In these patients,deionized water was injected to the surrounding tissues of the lymph node to decrease heat injury.Results from these patients suggest that radiofrequency ablation may play an important role in the treatment of patients with distant lymph node metastasis.

Background:A ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is often fatal.In addition to surgery and transarterial embo?lization,radiofrequency ablation(RFA)might be another option for treating a ruptured HCC.Unfortunately,conven?tional RFA has a limited ablation zone;as such,it is rarely used to treat ruptured tumors.Case presentation:This case was a 60?year?old man who had a large,ruptured HCC in which hydrochloric acid(HCl)?enhanced RFA successfully controlled the bleeding and made the tumor completely necrotic.Conclusion:Considering the effectiveness of HCl?enhanced RFA in achieving hemostasis and tumor ablation,it might be a new option for treating large,ruptured HCCs.

Stem cell marker LIN28,related closely with SOX2 and OCT4,has been studied as a biomarker for the maintainance of pluripotent cells in several malignancies.Our previous study showed that SOX2 and OCT4 were negative predictors for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).However,the predictive value of LIN28 in HCC outcome is still undetermined.We hypothesized that LIN28 may also play a role as a biomarker for HCC.To test this hypothesis,we examined the expression of LIN28 in 129 radically resected HCC tissues using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and analyzed the association of LIN28 expression with clinicopathologic features and prognosis.Our study showed that LIN28 was expressed at a higher frequency in tumor tissues than in non-HCC tissues(45.0% vs.21.7%,P = 0.020).Moreover,LIN28 expression was significantly increased in cases with large tumor size(P = 0.010).Univariate analysis did not reveal a significant correlation between LIN28 expression and overall survival or recurrence-free survival.For HCC patients who met the Milan criteria,stratified analysis revealed shorter overall survival(P = 0.007) and recurrence-free survival(P < 0.001) in those with detectable LIN28 expression compared to those with no detectable LIN28 expression.Furthermore,multivariate analysis revealed that LIN28 was a negative independent predictor for both overall survival(hazard ratio= 7.093,P = 0.017) and recurrence-free survival(hazard ratio=5.518,P = 0.004) in patients who met the Milan criteria.Taken together,our results suggest that LIN28 identifies low-risk and high-risk subsets of HCC patients meeting the Milan criteria who undergo hepatectomy.

Background:Postradiation nasopharyngeal necrosis(PRNN)is a severe complication after radiotherapy in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),which can severely affect the quality of life and threaten the patient’s life.Only 13.4%-28.6%of patients can be cured by traditional repeated endoscopic debridement.Here,we introduced an innovative curative-intent endoscopic surgery for PRNN patients and evaluated its clinical efficacy.Methods:Clinical data of 72 PRNN patients who underwent radical endoscopic necrectomy,followed by reconstruc-tion using a posterior pedicle nasal septum and floor mucoperiosteum flap were analyzed to determine the efficacy of this surgery.The endpoints were complete re-epithelialization of the nasopharyngeal defect,relief of headache,and overall survival(OS).Results:All surgeries were successfully performed without any severe postoperative complications or death.The median value of numeric rating scales of pain decreased from 8 before surgery to 0 after surgery(Pruction using the posterior pedicle nasal septum and floor mucoperiosteum flap is a novel,safe,and effective treatment of PRNN in patients with NPC.

For the next large-scale energy storage systems,sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)with excellent electrochemical performance are promising.However,the exploration of anode materials with high specific capacity,fascinating cycling stability and rate capability is still restricted.Among transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs),tungsten diselenide(WSe_(2))has been regarded as an effective anode material for SIBs and has been extensively studied,due to high theoretical capacity and unique twodimensional layered structure.Herein,nanocrystalline WSe_(2)is prepared by a facile one-pot hydrothermal method.Compared with the micro-scale WSe_(2),benefiting from the high specific surface area of highly ordered nano-flake structures and short ion/electron transport paths,nanocrystalline WSe_(2)shows excellent electrochemical performance in Na storage.After 1000 cycles at a current density of 2 A·g^(-1),a high specific capacity of 264.4 mA·h·g^(-1)is still maintained.The full cell matched with the Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3) cathode can deliver an excellent reversible specific capacity of 196.5 mA·h·g^(-1)after 100 cycles at 0.5 A·g^(-1).

Background Fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome(FLHS),a fatty liver disease in laying hens,poses a grave threat to the layer industry,stemming from its ability to trigger an alarming plummet in egg production and usher in acute mortality among laying hens.Increasing evidence suggests that the onset and progression of fatty liver was closely related to mitochondria dysfunction.Sodium butyrate was demonstrated to modulate hepatic lipid metabolism,alle-viate oxidative stress and improve mitochondrial dysfunction in vitro and mice models.Nevertheless,there is limited existing research on coated sodium butyrate(CSB)to prevent FLHS in laying hens,and whether and how CSB exerts the anti-FLHS effect still needs to be explored.In this experiment,the FLHS model was induced by administering a high-energy low-protein(HELP)diet in laying hens.The objective was to investigate the effects of CSB on alleviating FLHS with a focus on the role of CSB in modulating mitochondrial function.Methods A total of 288 healthy 28-week-old Huafeng laying hens were arbitrarily allocated into 4 groups with 6 replicates each,namely,the CON group(normal diet),HELP group(HELP diet),CH500 group(500 mg/kg CSB added to HELP diet)and CH750 group(750 mg/kg CSB added to HELP diet).The duration of the trial encompassed a period of 10 weeks.Results The result revealed that CSB ameliorated the HELP-induced FLHS by improving hepatic steatosis and patho-logical damage,reducing the gene levels of fatty acid synthesis,and promoting the mRNA levels of key enzymes of fatty acid catabolism.CSB reduced oxidative stress induced by the HELP diet,upregulated the activity of GSH-Px and SOD,and decreased the content of MDA and ROS.CSB also mitigated the HELP diet-induced inflammatory response by blocking TNF-α,IL-1β,and F4/80.In addition,dietary CSB supplementation attenuated HELP-induced activation of the mitochondrial unfolded protein response(UPRmt),mitochondrial damage,and decline of ATPase activity.HELP diet decreased the autophagosome formation,and downregulated LC3B

Ferroptosis,a type of regulated cell death driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation,is mainly initiated by extramitochondrial lipid peroxidation due to the accumulation of iron-dependent reactive oxygen species.Ferroptosis is a prevalent and primitive form of cell death.Numerous cellular metabolic processes regulate ferroptosis,including redox homeostasis,iron regulation,mitochondrial activity,amino acid metabolism,lipid metabolism,and various disease-related signaling pathways.Ferroptosis plays a pivotal role in cancer therapy,particularly in the eradication of aggressive malignancies resistant to conventional treatments.Multiple studies have explored the connection between ferroptosis and bladder cancer,focusing on its incidence and treatment outcomes.Several biomolecules and tumor-associated signaling pathways,such as p53,heat shock protein 1,nuclear receptor coactivator 4,RAS-RAF-MEK,phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-AKT-mammalian target of rapamycin,and the Hippo-tafazzin signaling system,exert a moderating influence on ferroptosis in bladder cancer.Ferroptosis inducers,including erastin,artemisinin,conjugated polymer nanoparticles,and quinazolinyl-arylurea derivatives,hold promise for enhancing the effectiveness of conventional anticancer medications in bladder cancer treatment.Combining conventional therapeutic drugs and treatment methods related to ferroptosis offers a promising approach for the treatment of bladder cancer.In this review,we analyze the research on ferroptosis to augment the efficacy of bladder cancer treatment.

Objective:Matrix metalloproteinase 13(MMP13)is an extracellular matrix protease that affects the progression of atherosclerotic plaques and arterial thrombi by degrading collagens,modifying protein structures and regulating inflammatory responses,but its role in deep vein thrombosis(DVT)has not been determined.The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential effects of MMP13 and MMP13-related genes on the formation of DVT.Methods:We altered the expression level of MMP13 in vivo and conducted a transcriptome study to examine the expression and relationship between MMP13 and MMP13-related genes in a mouse model of DVT.After screening genes possibly related to MMP13 in DVT mice,the expression levels of candidate genes in human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)and the venous wall were evaluated.The effect of MMP13 on platelet aggregation in HUVECs was investigated in vitro.Results:Among the differentially expressed genes,interleukin 1 beta,podoplanin(Pdpn),and factor VIII von Willebrand factor(F8VWF)were selected for analysis in mice.When MMP13 was inhibited,the expression level of PDPN decreased significantly in vitro.In HUVECs,overexpression of MMP13 led to an increase in the expression level of PDPN and induced platelet aggregation,while transfection of PDPN-siRNA weakened the ability of MMP13 to increase platelet aggregation.Conclusions:Inhibiting the expression of MMP13 could reduce the burden of DVT in mice.The mechanism involves downregulating the expression of Pdpn through MMP13,which could provide a novel gene target for DVT diagnosis and treatment.

Surface modification of graphite anode with electroactive matters has been proven of a more practical strategy in enhancing the performance of Li-ion batteries than exploring alternative novel anode materials.Herein,rutile Ti NbO4-xnanoparticles with a tunnel structure are employed as multifunctional decoration substances in combination with a carbon coating layer to improve the rate and cycle properties of mesocarbon microbeads（MCMBs）.As compared to pristine MCMB,the Li+diffusion coefficients of the composite anodes are enhanced due to the synergistic effect of Ti Nb O4-x@C.Meanwhile,the overcharge and voltage polarization of the composite anodes at high rate are obviously minimized due to the current sharing effect of the high-potential TiN-bO4-x.Moreover,the amorphous LiyTi Nb O4-xconverted from Ti NbO4-xin the initial lithiation process can deliver pseudocapacitive capacity to the composite anodes from the second cycle.All of these functions of Ti NbO4-x@C coating layer have directly contributed to the improved rate and cycle performance of the MCMB/TiNbO4-x@C composite anodes.The one containing 12.0 wt%Ti NbO4-xexhibits a high reversible specific capacity of 118 m Ah·g-1at 10C (1C=372 m A·g-1),together with a high capacity retention of 90.9%after 300 cycles at 3C,which are all much superior to those of pristine MCMB.

Poly(aryl ether keton e)(PAEK) films with different crystallinities were obtained by controlling the cooling rate,which were subjected to the absorption and desorption of methylene chloride(CH_(2)Cl_(2)).We employed attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared(ATR-FTIR)spectroscopy analyses to investigate the diffusion behavior of CH_(2)Cl_(2) in PAEK films with different crystallinities.According to the Fickian diffusion model,the calculated diffu sion coefficients of CH_(2)Cl_(2) in PAEK films were observed to decrease with increasing crystallinity.The effect of CH_(2)Cl_(2)absorption and desorption on the mechanical properties of PAEK films with different crystallinity was further analyzed using tensile tests.The tensile tests exhibited that CH_(2)Cl_(2) has two concurrent effects:plasticization and solvent-induced crystallization.Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction(WXRD) techniques further confirmed solvent-induced crystallization behavior.The results would be beneficial to understand the solvent resistance of PAEK materials and consequently provide the practical application conditions of PAEK with a theoretical basis.
